hello fellow DGA posters. I've been forced to upgrade my video card and i want to order it off the net (cause its heaps cheaper than ordering it off Hardly Normal).
I know of only 2 online computer places. gamedude and secret computers. Now i have heard that gamedude can be unreliable, taking weeks to get the item to you.
What im asking is if any of you have dealt with either company how was the service. Are they reliable, can they get the item to you before the end of time. Do they charge reasonable frieght.
Im going to call frontline in the morning and see if they can help me out. but failing that i will have to go online. feedback is appreciatted. and have a nice weekend! :D
Sometimes a bit more expensive, but make sure you do your shopping around first. Large range, free freight for anything but cases, monitors etc, and good service.

Fuck down south pricing when you can get it in Darwin the same day with out the freight and warranty headaches. i agree and if it fuckes up u just take it into shop not sent it south to get fixed FITS is cool :P bits n bytes is in palmo for u scrubs too :P
are you people all crazy? no one heard from www.umart.com.au ? like the best i have ever found check all 3 stores, i bet they beatjsut about anywhere else.
Quote from G.I.R: They have excellent pricing. Usually I'd agree to this, though recently I found out their selling XP2100+ for around $330 where most online shops (http://www.cws.net.au) for example sells the same thing for $209. It does pay to look around.
ive never had a problem with gamedude myself. I purchase from frontline when i need something in a hurry and from gamedude when im willing to wait a little while.

Not when it comes down to warranty it doesnt.
Id pay more to know they will look after the warranty on the spot, and not have to send it south to be tested and contested. Then wait all that time without a computer ie cpu, vid, ram etc
but lets say you downsouth supplier says they wont cover the warranty.
Not from fault of product but handling in the post.
Or they test it and it works and send it back just to find out that it still doesnt work for you in your machine.
These are all money wasting avenues.
So you get it local and pay a slightly more expensive price, but you get to speak to the person who is testing your part, show them the problems you have and can work out a solution on the spot, the same day, right there and then.
How long would you like to wait while you argue with techs over the phone to explain the problems or what it isnt doing.
But thats your choice.
You pay for what you get. Cheaper is not always the better.
personally when i buy something i get the cheapest i can find - which did involve buying from game dude (something i wouldnt do again - my last post here was just to stir ppl)
Bassically its imposible to compete with an online business unless you become one. Their costs\overheads r just toooo low so they can offer products at extreemly low prices. So theirs no point haveing a price war.
Gammers in general are prepared to wait a week so they can get a better mashine for their budget. Really a stingy lot :)
What fits requires is recomendations -ppl go to a geek and ask them what comp they should get (hopeing for an answer like DELL or Gateway or Compaq or HP) and they get 2 options
1. Ill build u one - will have to wait for all the parts to come in but it will be more powerfull and cheaper (often i get parts from distributers using a shelf company and build them at cost - something FITS cant afford to do)
2. Get a ready made PC from eg FITS cause local custom comps r the way to go. Cause everyone else makes a shit load of money ripping the shit out of ppl ahem (DELL GATEWAY COMPAQ AND HP) - their the worst (and i think their merging - so it will become easier to tell ppl what not to buy)
Most non geeks would go for option 2
So the strat id recomend for FITS would be offering geeks discounts to "buy recomendations" and leaving the higher prices for non geeks
Im extreemly happy with the service i get from there, driven to FITS to get a mouse with discount late saturday nite during DGA who could ask for more.
so yeah, fits looks after me and ill recomend them to non geeks anyday - cause it saves me a lot of effort - sif i wanna hastle with distributers for no money and someone whos just gonna play solitare
