Yeah i guess some people just looove cute little hobbits prancing about with their furry feet.
Hobbits, Elves, Dwarves....you saying that's original????
The only original thing about LOTR is the whole "One ring to rule all rings" thing. And even thats not that original. So does this also mean that the third LOTR movie is gonna be 'old', 'unoriginal' and you're gonna get bored with all this HOBBIT SENT TO PROTECT A RING TO SAVE THE WORLD CRAP?
thats what i wanna know by the time the third one is released will people be bored wiht it becuase it is all about the same thing just 1 ring that needs to be smashed it's weird like jaws the first one was good but then it got sit it was all the same shit after that but yeah i recon that no one will get bored of LOTD becuase it had diffrent story line each movie and it's action packed and theres so many difrent ledgens in the movie
Pal, do what i do, and just dont read his post. :)
I'm sick of people saying LOTR is cliche. LOTR and The Hobbit are THE definitive works of fantasy- both written by Tolkien. It isn't unoriginal, it was the story that MADE the cliche's, all those years ago.

Leonard Nimroy + Bilbo Baggins forever!
Hahahaha,
Wolfspirit sorry to burst your bubble but......
The only thing Tolkien did that was original was renaming halflings to hobbits and even that is questionable. EVERYTHING else predates Tolkien by god knows how long. He was however the first person to write\create an actual world that incorporated all these things, and coin the 'hobbit' (yes a renamed halfling). Yet Jules Verne was writing comparable fables 50 years before Tolkien(tolkien was more of an academic, verne was a WAY better storywriter). And tolkien wrote this for his SIX (yes 6) year old daughter(the hobbit). Nearly everything else is a derivative of ancient celtic mythology and british mythology. The elvish rune system is very similar to celtic's.
Tolkien and his buddies would go down to the pub(or whatever in those days) and with his professor buddies would discuss ideas, stories, recreate historic events etc. They invented a good fantasy world, threw around ideas about 'Middle earth'(oh wait it's so original it even looks like the english 'middle ages'). Then tolkien simply took all these ideas (his and his friends ideas) and wrote a descent book.
So yes he was the first to write a fantasy worldof this genre, but i wouldn't call him the father of fantasy.
Tolkein is attributed to having designed the "contemporary" concept of elves. Till him, folk tales spoke of elves as being of the fey races, ie. no more than a foot tall, with wings and a thing for flowers.
Modern D&D (among other roleplaying systems) was heavily influenced by his work, though they did evolve off in a slightly diferent direction.
I don't know that you can compare the Terminator series with LOTR though, nor can you separate the three parts of the LOTR movie - its all one story.
Although all good works are based on what others have done before them. Something the lines 'All good artists copy'
well damn! does it really matter? you have all seen the movie and/or read the book.... it might not be original or antyhing but they had something you wanted in them. id like to see you guys write something totally new and orginal. until then give these people a bit of credit.
Yawn your all boring. j/k
You are all aware that there are only so many styles of movies people can make, and within those styles of movies, there are only a certain amount of Story lines they can use. Be that as it may there are a lot of them. Mind you with the ammount of movies that have already been made and are being made, you cant expect that every movie is going to be completely original...
So next time before you complain about a movie looking simular to one that came before, think about that. And if you still dont like the idea that it is, then dont watch the movie, its that damn simple!
personally i think T3 looks cool, although i have always hoped that they would make a future terminator movie, set in the war. But Still should be a good movie.
the three movies are about the same thing because thats the way it was written and its such a huge story ! how could the autor have written just 1 book.....and leave the story hanging in the air ? dood you need to read
LOTR BEFORE YOU POST !
terminator was made as 1 MOVIE first and because it made money they decided to make another and now another MONEY IS THE FACT HERE NOT ORIGINALITY !
all three LOTR movies were made at the same time they didnt really know that it would be as popular they did it because they are following a great trilogy of books (not exactly like the book though).
i love the LOTR books and just like wolf ill wear my hobbit feet proud

The fact of the matter is they must be doing something right, if they are going to make a movie that is blatently the same as the previous 2, and expect to make money out of it dude. Which shows that most people dont care, its not as if we watch action movies for the story line. We want cool special effects, shit blowing up, and hot chicks.
LOTR looks good and T3 looks pretty good too but EQUILIBRIUM looks wikked (wik wik wik wikked)
i watch movies for the storyline.... i appreciate special effects and all, but yeah.... if there is nothing in the story to follow then whats the point?
i didnt watch american pie for Alyson hannigan ( that was just a bonus  ) i watched it cos it was damn funny!
The only argument I have against the T3 storyline is that the second movie apparantly started with John Connor walking into the skynet computer core to shut down the AI just as the T2000 was sent.
If this was the case, and the Terminator that was sent back successfully destroyed both the guy who originally made skynet, as well as the original Terminator parts, how was it that skynet was eventually still constructed?
Having said that, I'll more than likely still watch the movie, cause its cliche as hell, with plenty of action and great effects, but if you ask me, its getting dangerously close to the Highlander syndrome :P

Sorry i must not of made my self clear. I do watch movies for a story line, but in the case of an action movie, it plays second fiddle to the action. So yeah a good story line is essential to the movie, but in the case of t3, the fact that the story line is the same as the first 2 doesnt really matter. Where as if it was lets see a court case movie, and they already made two of the same, then there wouldnt be any point watching...

Well really, was he that much of a fraud? It's a good thing that you aren't a linguistics professor at Oxford who could read several norse languages, created several languages of your own and created an entire world to explain why these languages existed and where their kinks came from. Because then you might be more original than that total lightweight fairypuff faking-it-not-making-it wannabe Tolkien.
Where'd you get your PhD in linguistics from, btw? I'd like to study there. And your books, what are they called?
