Hah easy to explain in the Star Trek universe.....
It was a quasi-temporal time flux generated by the stray warp signature emitted by a non-sanctioned transwarp ion generator, which in turn enveloped the entire race of Klingon's and started a process of internal bacteria attrition in the population, which (chaos theory) in turn altered the corona on LV-109(but did not harm the aliens there) thus the gravitational forces were altered and the whole space-time continuum(had to use it) lost sync with the relative masses of the universe, thus the inertial dampeners on the Enterprise.........hang on a sec, what the fuck was i trying to explain again? Dosen't matter cos thats what the script writers do too........
I personally put it down to a continuity fuckup..but hey, i like your explanation too fr3nzy :p
But you forgot one thing....they had to slingshot around the moon, travel back in time, save a whale that would eventually save teh fate of man, thus allowing your explanation to exist in the first instance
Woh!! What the shit? People actually watch that crap?? MAn, if you wanna theorise about something - how bout a story that could be feasible [spelling?] Lord of the Rings. Critics reckon that after the Silmarillion [spelling?], Middle Earth could be an actual alternate history for Britain.
Alternate realities?? We are talking bout the future of man.....space travel.....now what we are talkin about is more feasable (spelling), than this middle earth thing :p
Romulans are related to Vulcans, the difference is Vulcans suppressed their emotions and used logic to guide and dictate their choices whereas Romulans are a group of Vulcans who disagreed with logic and suppressing emotion.

Should get around to watching them one day :)
