hmm
i bet the fat cats don't get fired
They probably need the fat cats for venture capital
hmmmm well alot of peeplz have been saying p4s are better so i guess no-one is buying the athlon xps :( :) oh well im etting a p4 soon i have trouble with amds
People are holding out for either the Barton or the Athlon64, no wounder they are loosing sales. They are making money on their flash ram so I doubt they will go under, they go in cycles this happens all the time.
p4 am da best!!!!!!!!!! :P
They'll be ok - they signed a deal with IBM to use the 64 bit proc in IBM's machines.
deeeeeeto p4 am so da beast. mesa gettin one if i clean my bedroom dad sez. u may thik that is seeely but u should see my room.
smiddy go play Total Anihilation with ten people each with 500 units each. The game does not use any SIMD engines so the P4 gets raped by even the slowest of Durons and low end Pentium3s
awwww dont say that man. my dad hates amd cus we've been having problems with their processors ever since we go our first. pp4 is the best and highest option for us and plus i hate total annhialation, i dont play it. i play the specialists, cs, wcIII, rollercoaster tycoon, and use some art programs that are extremely stressful on the processors part... so all in all p4 is the best 4 me.

Those games stress SIMD engines not FPU! (except CS)
I WAS TALKING BOUT THE ART PROGRAMS!!! :d:d:d not the games
I use to HATE AMD but.......
I ended up getting a
duron 600 then
duron 800 then
duron 1000 then
duron 1.2 then
XP1800 then
XP2000+ then
XP2100+ then back to
XP2000+ (cause i slod the XP2100 to friend at huge proffit then could not get a nother)
Honestly have to say that I had No problems with any of these cpus
Mainly the motherboards were cause of the few problems i did have
At work had lots of problem's with the normal athlon's 1.0G to 1.4G not the XP's
oi have one of those shitty K6-2's and i have had nothing but problems. possibly because of the fact its a socket 7 type processor.
I have had a K6-2 and K6-III+, the latter is a laptop CPU and it worked perfectly well (and still is as a Linux server) your problems must be with the user of this computer.
Just because you have had stability problems with AMD processors doesn’t negate the fact that Pentium4 processors are weak without the use of SSE or SSE2.
hehe NO. STABILITY PROBLEM . FULL STOP .
Smidy I have run Pentium3 and Celeron CPUs and I love them much more than the Thunderbird Athlons by far, even the Intel mobos and chipsets are great, but the Pentium4 cpus (including the Xeon) are shit because they are expencive, they run hot and when they do (always) they throttle themselves, they basically don't have a raw fpu and they keep changing the designs so people have to buy a new system to upgrade.
Want to run a new Xeon? Well you can't because they have now moved from Socket 603 to Socket 604 just to piss the server market off.
The Presscot requires a 800MHz fsb so there's a new mobo, and it's chipset is suposed to be only backwards compatible down to a 533fsb so 400fsb prcessors (including the new Celerons) are already obsolite.
Haven't got a HT cpmpatible mobo, then forget upgrading to a new prcessor unless your planning to get a Powerleap HT adapter (price unknown yet).
The conclusion is to get a Pentium3, AthlonXP, Athlon64 or get a Mac because even a Mac is more upgradeable than the current P4 systems.

Yep and the Mac is even 64 bit right off the mark :)
thats only the 3.06 ghz p4s that are socket 604, and water cooling can stop the overheating.... anyway overheating is just another ufix froblem of the 3.06ghz p4. im getting 2 ghz.
Umm the 3.06GHz P4 cpu is socket 478. The 603 and 604 are the Xeon cpus.
My friend was talking to this guy he knew who is running a server for forums like this one. They "upgraded" from a Duron 1GHz to a P4 2GHz. They said that the P4 couldn't process the amount of traffic that the Duron could so they were forced to revert back to the Duron. That was one situation where a P4 has been used as a server and it couldn't keep up with "lesser" cpus.
Another situation is my friend’s uni they also "upgraded" the advanced maths/scientific students computers from P3 850 and was replaced with new P4 1600. The maths work they were processing used to take several minutes to process with the P3 and with the P4 they now take around 45 minutes! The P4 is twice the clock speed of the P3 FFS!
Think about it, why would you buy a P4 when you could get an Athlon, or if your an Intel fan then go for a P3 because you'll be much better off.
Smiddy I like Intel, I also like AMD, Motorolla and IBM (VIA's C3 is acceptable). I just don’t like the Pentium4 because they are shit in every way.
if it was my choice i would get athlon xp straight away, but i dont call the shots, so i dont.
That's fine, the computer may be your parents or something like that. Just because your situation doesn't permit you getting the product in question doesn't mean you should bag it.
If you have a legitimate reason to bag an AMD processor (as you said your K6 was unstable) then by all means feel free to do so. Just remember that just because you have had problems with them doesn't mean we all have, infact my K5, K6-2, K6-III+, Duron and AthlonXP have been extremely stable systems.
I'm not interested in putting you down, I just think you should be careful as to what you are saying and how you say it. I don’t like having enemies and I hate to hate people. I like this forum and game servers and the people in it, they are informative, fun and decent people  and I hope it stays that way.
yes. it is a k6-2 500 that i have and i have stability problems. lots.but yer if it was my choice i would get xp 2800+ - its just because my dad doesnt like amd.
