The inscription on the ring is actually completely invisible unless the ring is first heated up in a fire - this is why Gandalf threw it into the flames in the fireplace in Bag End. While the Ring was unharmed and unheated by the flames, it made the writing on it glow.
Under normal conditions, it just looks like a normal, plain, gold ring. Unlike the rest of the Rings of Power, which are very showy. The One Ring is plain looking, but the master of them all.

actually the books do specify it - its how Isildur knew what was written on it when he took possession of the ring after slicing it off Sauron's hand.

Its a great movie, but you probably wont like it as young kids attention spans arent that long. But then again you might be an exception :)

I might play with it some more tonight, to see if I can up the image contrast a little.
Edit: Incidentally, here's hoping to a LOTR movie marathon sometime early next year, perhaps on the Australia day long weekend or somesuch :P All 3 movies on the big screen, one after another :cool:

the first time i saw LOTR it was annoying as hell, like, BORING!
then i saw it on dvd, and watched all the special features, then watched it again and loved it, having little bits explained to me by meph and the doccos on the DVD made it alot easier to understand the story and make me appreciate the work of all involved in the movie.
two towers was great, saw it twice in the first week, can not wait for numero 3! movie marathon, bring it!
