As far as I was able to tell, this information was taken from the article in PC Gamer's HL2 feature.

- Girl character is not playable .
- Same author of story as the first Half Life.
- There will be Interactive scripted scenes.
- Barney and the G-Man both get face lifts of sorts (as you have seen in the screenshots I posted in the other thread).
- Half-Life 3 is planned.
- Target release date for HL2 is September 30th.
- The Plot: There is a new alien invasion and some of the Xen aliens are now your allies.
- The game takes place in a Eastern European city.
- The game supposedly will be able to run on a DX6-compatible TNT card.
- Incorporation of a more robust mod making expierence.
- There's a new in-game physics system that should impress.

Hmmm, in many ways it seems to be turning out like #1. Half-Life itself never really took off with me, sure it was fun and all... but it was the Mods that made half-life famous in my opinion.

Haha! Give that another 10 years :P

I agree with neo, Although Hlaflife was alot of fun to finish the first time, i wouldnt of baught the game if it wasnt for Counter-strike, dod Mods in general...

well, imo, halflife was an amazing game.

Gameplay was great, kept me coming back for more.
But the thing that go alot of accolades and attention, was the games ambience.

The music, sound effects and lighting all added to this factor.
I used to play the game with volume up high and lights off.
I remember soiling myself several times when the Xen aliens teleported two feet in front of me.
Not to forget, of course, the great physics engine, which all your current HL mods are based off.

It was for this reason i also bought Blue Shift and Opposing forces.

Theres a reason it won Game of the year several times over.

Even if Half life 2 takes Devil May Cry 2's path, by just improving on an already proven gaming experience, it will be a sure fire winner.

I bought Half-Life way before cs or any other mods came out and it blew me away with it's single player experience and not many games do that AT ALL.

hl was an awesome single player game. it was designed primarily for single player so for replayability you can't really compare it with a multiplayer mod like cs or dod. can't wait for the hl2 engine. halflife engine is over 5 years old and still easily has the largest online community.

just goes to show - graphics aren't everything.

I'm so crap at half-life and I didn't like it very much. But I like CS and i'm decent at that :|

Post 11

the HL engine itself is actually the quake1 engine that was modded to use hardware accelerators...

so when did quake1 come out?
i dont know.. anyone?

Post 12

Yes, Half-Life was at its base, the Quake 1 engine. However, there were various Quake 2 code implementations on top of that for various reasons (about 10 lines, hehe).

For interests sake, Quake 1 was first publically released as shareware in mid-1996, and retail was released in August of 1996.

Yeah but quake 1 , 2 and 3 all sucked serious ass :D

except quake 3 was alright to play when you get bored of half life ;)

INFIDEL!!!!!!!!!

damn right, quake engines were the best. they were fully 3d!!!!. well, granted that there were some other games that used good 3d in those days (like flight sims and that) but compared with the other fps titles like doom and that, quake 1 blew me away. i would kill the first enemy, then spend time running around it to appreciate its 3d...ahhh goodnesss

Got some more in-game screenies for you all - it's looking very sweet indeed.
