Saturday night

on saturday night i saw these strange lights near nightcliff they looked weird like there was something wrong... like a u.f.o. then i kept driving and thought nothing of it..
but then i read todays paper(tuesdays) and lots of other people saw it to...
did anyone else here see it???

Beachside residents thought they were being invaded by aliens when a set of mysterious bright lights appeared in the night sky.

"People were out on the road, pointing to the bright lights and yelling it was an alien invasion," mother of three Yvonne Morris said.

"People were just stunned."

The Northern Territory News was flooded with calls from people who all say they saw the same thing from their Nightcliff homes -- eight bright yellowish-orange lights in perfect formation over the Timor Sea.

Brad McDonald, 48, was at the Nightcliff Jetty fishing with family and friends when he saw the lights on Saturday about 9pm.

"I've never seen anything like it -- it was bloody strange," Mr McDonald said.

But he said he had a strange feeling before he saw the glowing lights.

"I thought it was odd before that because the fish were biting like hell, and then all of a sudden the tide went out."

He described the lights as bright orange-yellow about 1km away, and in perfect formation.

"My mate reckons they were weather balloons, but I disagree -- they were too perfect.

"There were 40 people at the jetty and we were all intrigued," he said.

Ms Morris and her children were sitting on the verandah of their beachfront property when the orange-yellow lights first appeared.

"The eight lights were about 45 degrees from each other, and appeared to be fairly structured."

UFO sightings are fairly common in the NT -- no place more so than Wycliffe Well, 1100km south of Darwin, where Holiday Park owner Lew Farkas is the local expert on UFOs, having seen them with monotonous regularity over 18 years.

"The closest look I got of one was the spaceship's portholes, but I couldn't see the alien bloke inside," Mr Farkas, 54, said last night.

He said the formation described by the Nightcliff residents was similar to ones he had seen.

"It sounds like it was one mothership, with the other supporting craft on the side," he said.

Weather bureau senior forecaster Pradeep Singh said the bureau did not see anything unusual on its radar.

Either that, or its the moon light bouncing off his cataracts.

Sounds exactly the same as I saw about 6 years ago from Palmerston, same formation and same colour. I haven't forgotten as it was weird as hell and same thing lots of other people reported it also.

it was just some swamp gas bouncing of a weather balloon... now everyone go back to what they were doing :wink:

It was probably a rice car who had 50 neon lights on his car

a buncg of friends and i were out at cas beach a couple weeks ago and we saw a weird looking yellow blur go across the sky and over the skyline, it was bigger than a meteorite and it wasnt the right colour and was travelling way too slowly.... we were all freaking out when we left, because we had to walk in the pitch black thru long spear grass..... which looks like corn.....(freakin signs....stoopid movie)

also, were the lighs from the other night in a triangle formation? or were they circles round other circles...?

On the Radar thing.

One thing people usually use as "proof that it's aliens" is that such things rarely appear on radar, even if they are sighted.

If you have the technology to be stealthy, then it's f*cking stupid to give out EM radiation on any band, including bands visible to humans.

The alternatives basically make more sense. Weather balloons, atmospheric reflection & refraction of distant objects (especially high altitude aircraft), gas layers settling, meteorites ... the list goes on and on.

It's like the whole alien abduction thing. If they have the technology to cross the galaxy faster than light, then why do they need probes and dissections? Wouldn't they have - oh, I dunno - an X-ray machine? An fMRI, surely?

It would be simple for an advanced race to hide from our simple radars and sonars, but it would be almost impossible to hide the atmospheric effects that a ship travelling at great speeds would produce.

They wouldnt be able to account for subtle pressure and temperature changes that are all through our atmosphere.

We have supercomputers able to trace back the particle emantions to the big bang but not powerful enough to predict the weather...

Either way when I look across the sea of uneducated humanity nowadays
I feel an urge to ignore them, perhaps they did too :)

A friend and i saw these 8 lights - Saturday at 9:32pm.

i can guarantee they weren't planes, helicopters, weather balloons, meteors, missiles, north koreans, refugees, 'rice'ed cars, street lights, dope induced illusions or britney spears' breasts (sorry howie :P).

it was, however, very, very strange.

we watched them from the University Carpark (the end part near the science buildings and near the bushland area)

Maybe they're afraid of us. Our technology has been advancing at a fantastic rate over the last one hundred years; for instance, in sixty six years we've gone from the Wright Brother's first powered flight (17th December 1903) to putting a man on the moon (20th July 1969. That's phenominal. What will we accomplish in the next sixty six years?

Of course they are cautiuos.

We are a biological lifeforms governed by chemicals reactions in our brains.

Rational thinking and logic take backseat a lot of the time.

Not saying it's a bad thing :)

It was some drunk dudes with a few lengths of wire, fire starters and a few garbage bags.

Or, it may have been aliens.

PS It isnt hard to cause a UFO scare. Some people just dont think. Aircraft are the most common reason for it.

By the way did any of you guys see the Antonov at Darwin Airport the other day ???
