Barton Core

As some of you know, I recently bought an XP 2800+ with the Barton core. This is one sweet chip, lemme tell you. Very quiet (due to the need for a low speed fan; my hard drives spinning are the loudest sound I can hear, although there are three of 'em), 333mhz FSB and 512k cache. I'm very impressed.

However, one thing I have noticed, is that it runs *really* cold; even running Folding@Home 24/7 with a 2400rpm fan it only hits 39C... very cold. I'm very tempted to overclock to the 3000+ rating; I'd recommend if anyone's looking for a new processor, the Barton Core is the way to go.
The overclocking potential here... is sizable. However, I'd need to unlock my multiplier. I'm not going to at the moment ('tis fast enough for my needs, no need) however I got a variable speed fan which goes from 2000rpm to 4800rpm so I'll definately be able to up the speed if I can put up with the annoying sound...

Overclocker sshould watch for this chip, IMHO. :)

Bah as fucking if you need to unlock the multiplier, bump the fsb up and buy yourself some decent ram. Then increase ram voltage, and cpu voltage, all provided you have a decent m/b. You shouldnt have a problem. If you wanna go serious, buy the vapochill case.

And it is a great cpu to o/c and have read some good review about them, but personally if i could be bothered to spend that amount on a cpu, i would wait until the 12mnth warranty expires, shrug, sif need to overclock at those speeds.

No need to unlock if you have an nForce2 mobo - it does it for you automatically in BIOS.

Ahh well ;) im too poor to buy myself a new mobo. Will be possibly selling my system if i get accepted into the army.

FSB overclocking on the Barton core is not all that great... the core is at it's limits

(you can lower the multiplier and up the fsb to 400... any more is hazardous to the chip...)

Ok, does the 8RDA+ unlock the bartons as it does the nice Tbreads.. stupid XP's.. unlocking CPU's is a damn fine art... and takes alot of skills-

One thing, If its not on fire.. it can go further.. but ive got my Tbread running with a nice 215fsb... and its not the clocking that destroys the chip, its the voltage you pump into the sucker...

8RDA+s would restrict the 'power' of the Bartons wouldn't they?

The 333 fsb and 400 fsb Bartons both have the same core stepping, so the CPU shouldn't mind doing 400, although my 3200+ does get quite hot with the stock cooler.

I recently installed my new 2800XP+
I was just wondering if there was anyone out there who
has o/c their 2800 and what speeds thaey have got it to.

Also is it a wise idea to overclock my PC2100 to 333Mhz so it
can keep up with the FSB of the CPU??

overclocking amds, i duno about bartons but the most OVER clockable AMD chip ever out is the 1700 palomino core.
with the right cooling u can run that chip over 100% of stock speeds.

overclocking ram guest is dangerous.
ram is one of the most vital components for performnace. it really depends down to what quailty ur ram is. if it is generic PC2100 then.... don't hope for much
but if it's stuff like corsair xms or kingston , samsung chips, or any reputable brand then u can sqeeze couple of extra mhz.
thing is DDR 266 OC to 333 is a BIG gap... at most with generic ram u can only get a 20-30mhz increase before ur pc won't even boot. get good hand picked modules like mushkin or xtreme DDR pc3200 OC DDR533
