Has anyone ever had any problems with this?

if you get your stuff stolen its your own fault for not looking after it.
Post 3
Nope none what so ever.
I have been to almost all DGA lans (20+) and have never once had a thing stolen. Generally speaking it is fairly safe as many that attend aren't @ssholes and are very kind and generally look out for things going on that isn't meant to. Not to mention 2 cops that regularly attend - so don't think of stealing anytime soon cos I can tell you now you won't last long :P
As Wortel says it is however your responsibility. At least this is the case with DGA in Darwin (sorry dun know where you live). But I can garantee that you will make friends within 5-10min of entering and they will look after your gear :D
So from my experience it is safe, but do obviously take care cos things DO happen from time to time.
Post 4
When I first started attending LANs (DGA 6 or 8 - can't remember now), I used to be worried about leaving my computer overnight if I went home.
However, I didn't realise then that the best thing about DGA's is the strong core of "mates" that exists - it doesn't worry me now, cos I tend to stay all night anyway, but it is never a problem.
As Jono said, potentially there will always be a risk, but if it ever did happen, I pity the poor person stupid enough to try and rip something off.
Post 5
yeah nah i wasnt planning on stealing anything, i was just wondering wheather i should be taking a cricket bat.
I started up this cause iv never heard of anyone having any problems up here but some people down south at some big lans where telling some stories so i decided to post this to see if anyone has heard of has had any similar experiences up here in darwin.
Post 6
From what I've heard, they have a lot of problems down south with it, but they also have a lot more people then we do in darwin, and as Xaine said, everyone here knows everyone else, so we don't often have problems with stuff like this :)
Post 7
it be funny is someone did try and got caught, cause i reckons we could all take turns in hurting him :D
Post 8
If somsome steals your shit and is caught doing it, the wiser move would probably to get Spongey to take him down the cop-shop and call his parents. That would bruise him more than any amount of punches, and doing it that way means you can't have charges put on you for assault. :)
But no, it's a very safe enviroment - I've been a LAN gamer for untold years now, started about 6 months after getting my first PC. Been attending and assisting DGA since the very first... Oh the memories.
Post 9
most of the older gamers are big and ugly, to mess with them would be suicide.
Crazy_C Used to be a bouncer (or so i believe). He would be first in-line to personally get his anti-theft message across.
I have no issues with leaving my computer at the LAN, because yes, i do know most of the people there and yes, i trust them.
Small things like walletts and watches (witch i take out/off for wars) i keep an eye on, because they are easy to nick without being noticed.
But all that said, there is NO PROBLEM and if the regulars have anything to do with it, THERE NEVER WILL BE!

Yeah, that's what I do... I've never had anything nicked either...
Sniff I miss the atmosphere in the LAN's up north... unwashed gamers and stale pizza... Mmmm.... that's what I'm talking about.
No seriously, I do miss it, but not for the stink (which never really minded me all that much). :P

Im a newby to the dga communtiy and regularly leave my wallet and sunglasses on ma table.
i have NO fear of them being stolen.
but i have 1 thing to edit from i think it was REC's comment which was
"If somsome steals your shit and is caught doing it, the wiser move would probably to get Spongey to take him down the cop-shop and call his parents."
IF you catch someone stealing stuff, please tell other regulars what was stolen and who stole it BEFORE you go to spongey or letaf. Coz chances are the dude will be beaten to a pulp (i know id certainly raise a fist to a thief) and there is NOTHING they can do. I mean if they want to complain about an assault, they also have to nark themselves in for being a thief
...catch 22 for the thief...
:D
Post 18
Same as when someone steals your dope.
Who u gonna go to? The cops? :p
Post 19
all good in theory except when you take nt judicial system into account :P
theft isnt even worth a slap on the wrist
vigilantism is NORTY
thief would probly get a warning, you'd get jail, hurrah :P
Post 20
proberly true harb
so we need to make up a story
mr magistrate he "fell" when we were chasing him
Post 21
I'd say you should turn them over to DGA's cops-in-da-house.
Bearing in mind that at all times it is a policeman's duty to stop breaches of the peace. If they see you beating someone up, at law, they will need to deal with it.
Likewise if they witness a theft, they are meant to deal with it.
It is the case that you may yourself arrest someone who has or is about to breach the peace. My advice is that you do so, and turn them over to sponge and lataf ASAP.
And buy them a slab later on as a thankyou.
Post 22
from what i have heard. If you catch a theif you have to give him a few drinks to get him drunk... then bash him up.. then.. if he goes to the police, you could say he was drunk and can't remember anything

So, on top of aggravated assault, you'd add perjury and obstruction of justice? Nice one.

How about 'no', Scott.

So basically, you give him a free night out on the town.
Post 25
lol sounds silly to me
Post 26
If any comes near my computer & I see them, there will be hell to pay....
HELL   AAARRRRGGGHHH   :x
Post 27
Heehee... my whole PC case (Showed in Cooler PC's - Jono's thread) weighs like 30kg... so er, people wouldn't get very far running with that... Plus it's locked so noone can take any of the good parts in my PC (hmm... good parts...). I want to come to a Darwin lan - never met any of you personally, but i'm sure we'd all get along :) especially under the influence of alcomahol :D
As for watch, wallet, mobile phone... well, I sit on my wallet (in my back pocket) and I would be more worried about being sexually harassed then someone stealing my wallet... if I took my watch off (For more comfort) I'd either put it in my pocket, or unlock my PC and put it in there somewhere 8) pretty cool idea :D
DrewBar - I can't do what you'd do... my case has a window, so it could just be an admirer so I can't just go open a can of whoopass on them 8) Plus if I went, there would be no telling who it was (unless he/she was wearing a name tag) so I mean I could think he/she is a theif, and it's someone I've 'known' for months - boy would I feel bad.
Post 28
never  i'd beat the crap out of whoever nicked my or any of my mates gear...
Post 29
getting stuff stolen from my pc is about 90% of the reason my parents don't like me going to lans
thankfully, so far, i've had no problems...but i would be pissed if i did and that would be the end of dga for me
so everyone, for my sake, DO NOT STEAL MY SHIT

Wally, as a fairly new person to the scene at DGA, it has a very nice atmosphere, compared to the feeling of the MPU and Shafted has down south.
Up here the feeling is family. It takes a brave/stupid person to f*ck with a family.

Unless ur into incest, in which case, fucking with a whole family is hours of fun.
Post 32
Great amount of insight there Milenko  eww

omg durrrrty
Post 36
When I think about it, 'twould not make any sence to even try to steal something from a LAN in darwin because of how comparativly small the comunity is compared to other states, In another state if someone was outcast for stealing they could just attend another LAN with a whole new host of players, but in darwin they would have no other large groups to play with and their life would be ruined untill they got that T1 intetnet connection installed.
If i knew someone who was known for stealing stuff at LANs i wouldnt be playing my games with him, im sure there are others who would feel the same way.

you know what also makes no sense? reviving 4 month old posts.

sorry guys, as Eater_Of_Souls politely pointed out ive not been on these forums as long or as familar with them as most of you, and the thread was after all on the first page so i assumed it was fairly recent, in future ill check the 'last post' date to be sure.
oh yeah... this is my 3rd post.
Post 42
Don't let it bother you too much. If you post in an old topic, people give you lip about reviving old threads. If instead you discuss it in a new thread, people bitch about not using the old thread.
It's all good :)
Post 43
i was a lan once and a bloke stole ram out of my comp......whlie it was on. and while i was there. how stupid can u be
Post 44
That would have killed your comp!
Were you sitting there or were you away from your comp! Don't you have a lock for your case?
