Just letting you know that if you ever want to go on a Tandem skydive, then the best time would be between 26th July and 2nd August.
Batchelor Skydive Club is having a big week that week, with skydivers coming from all around Australia up here.
The Price is $295, that would normally take you up to 10,000 feet (Cessna 182), but during this week we have a bigger better plane (Cessna Caravan) that can do this quicker so the exit height is 14,000 feet. That doubles your freefall time.

Just remember unlike in the Matrix if you fall you don't bounce back up and down a couple times.
diving in darwin? when it comes to beaches and ocean i prefer quality. if any of you ever get the chance, go to New Caledonia - it's a French pacific colony. NC itself isn't too spectacular (about the same as darwin but it's safer to swim), and the only real city is Noumea (the capital), so head to the loyalty islands just east of the main island. a few years back i went to Lifou with my family, and the beach was so white it was blinding. aqua blue pool colour water, french polynesian babes (yes some of them are VERY hot) and relaxing in a slightly softer sun. you have to go during the wet season though because apparently it gets rather cold during the dryer winter months. another nice island that i unfortunately didn't get to see was Iles de Pins (sometimes i wish i had some sort of french thingy on my keyboard :)) or Ilse of Pines. the brochure looked good, and the loyalty islands weren't disappointing, so i'd heartily recommend this part of the pacific to anyone. New Caledonia doesn't have the same problems with malaria that some other pacific nations like Vanuatu have, and it's pretty safe. they drive on the other side of the road and speak french but mostly the locals are great. as for skydiving, i've given this some serious thought. if i can cough up the money and convince my mother to let me i may have a chance of getting there :) btw, any1 here tried kitesurfing? i was watching em in NC and it was f*cking wicked. learned a bit about powerkiting from a kitesurfer in broome on the christmas holidays, and as soon as i get out of darwin i'm gonna buy myself a kit (ramair most likely) and get some lessons. looks like hell good fun.:)

i've dived mainly in Malaysia. also been lucky enough to have Hawaii was cool but unfortuantly very plain, Aur island in malaysia is nice and last christmas i got to go to Manado in the Soloman islands - i would reconmend it to any dive enthusiasts :P
Edit: Anyone else seen today's Northern Territory News? In the UK an experienced sky diver had his gear sabotaged (main chute and emergency chute) and he plummeted to the ground. Kinda scares ya away from sky diving :shock:
yer that was scary. hopefully the culprit gets caught soon and incarcerated for the rest of his meaningless life. i've seen a few parts of malaysia, but mainly only the southern areas closest to singapore. there's some beautiful islands in the south china sea, but most of em are pretty expensive. in terms of cost the pacific is probably cheaper and the beaches are slightly whiter ;). of course that all depends on where you go and how you travel.

Shit that news is old, bloody NT NEWS, it was in one of the interstate papers on tuesday i think. He wasn't in the UK.. it was in Aust.. i think.. Both chutes cut, It was a group formation dive, he tried to open up at 3,000ft or something .. what the news paper said.. but yeah.. i seriously would have been scared out of my wits.. knowing you are near terminal velocity and you are going to die.
I seriously doubt it was a copycat, the bloke was quite popular by the sounds on the article in the paper.. It was front page news. He was on his way to becoming a great success.
well in that situation i think it would be best to get it over and done with, making sure there's no chance that you'll survive. dive head first and make a mess, that way they won't be able to keep you alive as a vegetable. of course it's always easier said than done, and until we've knocked on wood there's no telling how we'd react...
