I am looking into ADSL and I am searching for a good 4 port router/modem Any ideas to what is good and what sux? Its cheap to go with the bigpond ones but they are kinda gay from what I have heard/seen... Also any ideas on where I could buy these modems cheaply over the net would be good too.. Thanks :)

How about you ask about the darwin wireless service. I'm pretty sure someone on here will know more about it, but it will probably save you $$ in the long run :D

4 port look at alcatel. Standard Telstra modems.
At current my set up is a 1 port alchatel with a 4 port netgear adsl router.
And for Wrathlon. I am on wireless too, so dont even begin to start :)
If you are after usb look for a billion. best usb modems I have encountered by far

D-Link and Netgear create, imho, extremely reliable and high quality products... but you pay for it.

personally i would go the Netgear DG814 over the DSL-504 as the 504 can - sometimes - have strange 'issues' with firmware.

I am applying for adsl at the moment. I'm tryin to decide which modem to get as well.
The DSL-504 looks good except 8MB wtf???
I'd rather the netgear with the 10/100 switch, kick ass.
I can't believe that people would buy ADSL modems through internode, they are offering the DSL-504 for $449 + "5 delivery, bunch of rip off merchants. Since some people are less computer literate than I am, I'm sure that some poor family will buy it off them, I am considering writing a letter of complaint, this is just a joke.

reaps, Simon Hacket says that he doesn't recommend getting it off them as they buy them retail in Adelaide and do a markup of the price. they prefer that you get a modem from somewhere else.
8mb is the limit for the modem - 1.5mbit is the limit for all australian lines... thanks telstra.
if you do order off internode - as i did, they email you (can't remember the lady that did my application..:|) confirming whether you still want it even though it is a very high price to pay. she also recommended that you have a look around on the net... i just couldn't be bothered ;)
Leonel - as long as the modem is ethernet i believe you can do it relatively easily.

yes, most popular brand in the US of A for good reason. their wireless stuff is up to D-Link and Netgear standards easily. ease of use is a big thing with linksys products - they don't usually have all the fancy features but are just plain, simple and do the job well. (from what i've heard..)

Id recommend you have a look at the billion 741GE and the dlink 504.
Youd have to look around abit to find the cheapest price. sorry.
EDIT: i think linksys is owned by cisco?

don't bother with the 504 - too many incompatibility errors with the firmware and some australian networks...
