Budget? Single GPU choice would be GTX 580 if you plan on playing Battlefield 3.

Single 570 and then have a look at the new Radeon 7000 series which should be released in the next 3-4 months and will hopefully offer a significant jump in performance over anything currently on the market. If it doesn't, then you can always get a second 570 in a few months and probably save yourself a few bucks.

Single 570 won't cut it if you care to sit around 60fps constantly. Yes it's better value for money. But don't confuse that with actually being better - far from it.

PS. I'd recommend at least a 580, preferably two in SLI, or a single 590 for *good* frames in BF3.

System requirements from their website
Minimum requirements for Battlefield 3
OS: Windows Vista or Windows 7
Processor: Core 2 Duo @ 2.0GHz
RAM: 2GB
Graphic card: DirectX 10 or 11 compatible Nvidia or AMD ATI card.
Graphics card memory: 512 MB
Hard drive: 15 GB for disc version or 10 GB for digital version
Recommended system requirements for Battlefield 3
OS: Windows 7 64-bit
Processor: Quad-core Intel or AMD CPU
RAM: 4GB
Graphics card: DirectX 11 Nvidia or AMD ATI card, GeForce GTX 460, Radeon Radeon HD 6850
Graphics card memory: 1 GB
Hard drive: 15 GB for disc version or 10 GB for digital version
Why does the digital version need less space then the disc version?

Metro 2033 is pretty taxing but there's only a 4.2fps difference (1920x1080, 4xMSAA, 16xAF) between the models according to TH. Is there a reason why a 580 will be a league ahead of a 570 in BF3?
I'm not being argumentative - I'm just trying to get to the nuts and bolts of it.

Metro 2033 isn't a good benchmark. Look at Frostbite engine frames. BC2 will be a good indication of card performance for BF3.
And I bought a 590 so I can run triple monitor, as its the only single card from Nvidia that can.
I'll probably get another 590 for BF3 though, as I'd like to see 85fps+ constantly - I have 120Hz monitors and dropping around 60fps looks balls.

The only 570's I've seen so close are "superclocked" ones. Most reviews I've seen, such as Hexus.net's, show a 10-12fps gain (a little over 5%) and it tends to drop less frames comparatively.
When you're talking about the difference between dropping to 51fps or dropping to 63fps that's a substantial performance trade off as far as I'm concerned.
Of course, the value equation does come into it, but if the difference is less than a hundred dollars I wouldn't blink twice.
