You could hide the basics of what your told to do with an actual story. And varied elements to how you actually perform the task. Go kill NPC x could force you to climb over cliffs avoid traps sneak pass guards or fight them if ya want.

Most MMO quests are go kill mob x 100 times in open field or dungeon. Wouldn't it be better to have a quest that said force mob x back into its base then report back and have more then one way to go about it, ie killing the shit out of the mob, going and destroying some damn or something to flood the area you want to force it out of etc.

MMO's need to get closer to single player games in how their quests are thought out. For the most part they are rubbish tasks to attempt to hide the fact your killing x mob 1000 times to level.

and have opposing players run interference on your quest, as a quest of their own!

you. kill x, get y before he reaches w

them: defend x until he reaches w

With these type of games, you'll always be killing scripted mobs and bosses, over and over. Then when you finally have enough levels and gear at minute drop rates, you'll find the class you chose to be completey gimp in pvp due to having to mainly balance characters on pve.

If you're an achiever you'll love this type of stuff, if you're a competitor it's a nasty timesink until end game, then you realise you wasted months because you want a different class anyway.

So go on, grab Fury, I need more Aussies to pwn. :p

          WHO employs that idea.
The beta couldnt tell us how good it was though, there were never enough people in the PvP areas to test it.

So what MMO are you talking about? I'm lost, thought we were talking about Age of Conan here.

Anyway, Age of Conan is being heralded as the next ground-breaking MMO. Here is one example...

8.3 You will actually have puzzle-solving in the game?
Yes! While Age of Conan first and foremost is a massively multi-player online game, we realize that one of the major strengths of single-player games is their ability to create involving quests that can really alter the way the world works around the player. In Age of Conan there will be several quests where you will have to do more than just killing or delivering things. This have always been one of the major problems with massive online games, the fact that quests often tend to be non-interactive and not varied enough to really capture the player's imagination. We really aim to change this with Age of Conan, adding quests that are interactive, captivating and exciting.

            8.4 Any concrete examples?
Well, one quest that is planned for the game involves having to find food in the form of ice worms in order to distract a dragon that is blocking the player's path. By collecting the food and laying it out for the dragon to see, they might distract it long enough to slip past it. Another one is where you need to burn your way to the bushes, and in order to do so you must first find a torch, which will do the job.

So I have to find the Red Security key to get through the red door.

As long as you can nuke the bushes with a fireball, and they burn away aswell, I will be happy
