It has been rumored that Mass Effect 2 might make its way to the PlayStation 3. Despite BioWare's previous denial, they've let the cat out of the bag at Germany's GamesCom with the announcement that Mass Effect 2 will see a PlayStation 3 release in January of 2011.

Mass Effect 2's newest character, Kasumi, and her bundled mission is now available for purchase and download. If you're a PC user, head on over to Bioware's Mass Effect 2 DLC purchase page with your Bioware Social Network login to grab it for just shy of $12 AUD. Once purchased, you can download it from your Entitlements area. 360 users merely need to jump into the XBL Marketplace....

Tomorrow, owners of Mass Effect 2 will have the opportunity to meet Kasumi. She's human, 25, and she's a cunning thief. She's no typical gold-digger though, being a master of stealth with unique technical expertise...

A handful of code has been retrieved from one of the 2 million recently sold copies of Mass Effect 2. If not faux, this code points definitively to Playstation 3 support in some fashion, with 'PS3' mentioned twice under pairs of similar configuration commands for the Xbox 360 and PC.

Push Square is reporting that "A cracked piece of Mass Effect 2 source code seems to retain two-lines of code retaining to the apparent existence of a Playstation 3 version of the game". Hit the jump for a look at the PC-retrieved code......

For those of you with Mass Effect 2 pre-orders on Steam; it's time to get pre-loading! Valve have published an update letting us know that Mass Effect 2 is now available in select countries in Europe, and while I purchased my copy from the UK Steam store, mine strictly still said "No yet released" and has commenced "Pre-loading", not downloading. If anyone else has having a different experience, be sure to leave us a comment in this article...

The highly anticipated sequel to Mass Effect is now available to pre-purchase on Steam. I've gone ahead and ordered the "Digital Deluxe" version, however at this stage there doesn't appear to be a pre-load paired with it. The game will unlock on January 29th. If you're as excited about Mass Effect 2 as I am, being the greatest sci-fi RPG to ever grace the face of gaming, then you'll probably be excited about this. EB Games has decided that the title is big enough to warrant an out-of-hours launch, and will cater for crowds from 7am with giveaways and a chance to win a limited edition Mass Effect 2 branded Xbox 360 Elite.
