Just a few questions
I am runnig the 2800XP+ Barton - which is meant to run cool
and also a Gigabyte GA 7N400 Pro2
I updated my BIOS to version 3 and all the sudden my
CPU temp is readin at like 60 - 80 degrees.... so i installed
Motherboard Monitor and the three sensors say...
1st - 45°C
2nd - 34°C
3rd - 75°C
So, just wonderin if it's reading the wring sensor because it looks to me
like 1st is the CPU, 2nd is the MB and the 3rd is nothing....
Please Help!!!
Make sure the HS isn't loose. If it isn't and the HS is getting hot then it means the heat is effectivly trasfering through the HS (which is good). Now if that is so then the question is how hot does the middles-base of the HS get (roughtly by human touch). If it doesn't sizzle your skin off you finger tips then don't worry all is good :wink:

yeah the HSF is attatched firmly and I decided it's the wrong sensor
When I turned on my AC the first two went down and the other stayed the same...

Had my XP 1700+ at 67 degrees today :| (ran all day and night too :P)
The manual adjustment for the SmartFan 2 broke off therefore it ran the fan at like the lowest possible speed (hardly moving).
Alls good i got it running at full speed (puts in ear plugs) now back to mid/high 40's :shock:
Oh while im here Phoenix what Heatsink you running on that chip? I just bought that motherboard today and had a nice fun job with the capacitor to the right of the cpu socket :evil: I currently have a Volcano 9 and it the corner hits the capacitor so yeah :|
did you put thermal paste on the heatsink? :P

Yeah I am using thermal paste - Arctic Silver 3!! That stuff rox!
Yeah im using the same heatsink - Volcano 9, the capacitor is touching it, but as that corner doesn't get too hot its okay. To put it on I had to take off the fan, grrrrrr... oh well. Sweet motherboard.
Remember Arctic Silver3 damages your amd cpu !! So they say ;)

Maybe AMD's techies are just knobs and can't work it without breaking the CPU :P :lol: :lol:
the third sensor in Mobo Monitor is most likely your video card. and it is probably a very wrong reading. however, older nvidia cards used to be able to get in excess of 70+ degrees.

it might be the video card, but the weird thing is:
When running just windows it shows 54°C, but when
i turn on MBM it goes up to 76°C...... oh well, system
still runnig perfectly well and smooth
MBM is teh botchz0red.
If it dont crash its all good. If it sounds like a hurricane it proberbly wont overheat anyway.
had my 1.3 duron at 83 degrees once.
now i run a 10" fan into my open comp case
a cool AMD?
i dunno if there is such but i duno since i never owned a amd. well considering that the MAXium amd temperture before burn out is 90C for a barton core and 45C is pretty good. and T bred and palamino 99C
i sujest a new heatsink and fan, preferbaly a SLK-900 with a 90mm fan.
finally u said ur monitoring program displays 3 temperatures. well the last one and hottest one is no doubt , ur north bridge temp.
the northbridge is DAMN hot. it depends really if u have a passive cooled NB or a fan cooled. if ur running a nforce 2 board i think it'll most likely be fan cooled , passive heatsink will definatly be hotter but even a fan cooled NB is HOT mine is currently 52C even with a fan 6650rpm strapped on to it. so don't worry about it. overal if u have no PC crashes or weird atifacts while gaming then u should'nt be worried about the temperature.
