Me and my family were having a discussion about this at a family dinner a few weeks ago. And i just wanna know what the laws are.
If you ride a bike home drunk on the -bike path -footpath -side of the road.
Can you get arrested. Could it get your driving licence taken off you.
My mom was trying to tell me if you get caught you drivers licence can get taken away but i think its bullshit so im hoping someone can tell us the laws on it :P
The last I knew, you are still able to be booked and arrested, as bikes are classed as a form of vehicle transport. If they didnt book you for drink-riding :) the could do you for Drunk and disorderly.
Not sure about the whole licence thing though.
I was caught years ago, pissed as a parrot riding and Mr plod pulled me over and give me the "what for".
Quote from Jeat: Yes you can get done for it, most likely to get Drunk and Disorderly, esspecially if you are singing at the time, ask one of my friends about that :)
Yeah well my mom wasnt happy that on new years i rode home on the bike and is saying you can get done for this and that. Im aware that if i was obstrucing cars or people or being a tool i could get introuble yes thats common sence. Yeha i was singing too :P But what im really interested in knowing is if im just riding home drunk and im being sensiable not doing anything that a sober person woudnt be doing is that against the law?
Quote from "Knight Of Nih: riding home drunk and im being sensiable
you put drunk and sensible in the same sentence...........good luck dude
But to answer you question, I suppose if you had you lights on your bike (both front and back) and helmet on, with bright clothes and were riding on the right side of the road, then you probably would be fine :)

O yeah regardless of the law on this issue its not gonna change the fact that if i have a bike and wanna go home that i will jump on and ride home drunk, i just wanna know what the law is.
yes id never drive home drunk as im not only endangering myself but other innocent road users id feel horriable if i killed someone else out of stupidity with riding home i can only really do damage to myself
on the helmet rule what is it now days as when i was younger i rember it changing all the time i think it was if you were under 16 you had to wear it and if you were over you only had to wear it on the road :? not sure but yeah whats that rule now days :P
U can get done for DUI on a push bike, but I wouldn't reccomend riding whilst drunk for a different reason. 1 head injury, several stitches and an F**KING EXPENSIVE ambulance trip after the staff xmas party taught me my lesson :x
Quote from Jeat: You wouldn't get done for DUI unless you did something really stupid, thinking of of thing that Darwin doesn't have steep hill and heavy traffic....
Umm you don't get out much do you? There are some awesomely steep hills in Darwin, Vanderlin Service Road is one steep hill, Stasinowsky St in Alawa is steep, Theres one down this park in Wulagi thats steep as...
But traffic doesn't have to be heavy if your drunk, one car is all it takes to kill you
My suggestion is to get that ambulance thing my grandparents got it and my grandfather had to get the air ambulance which would of cost $2000 but he got off it lucky bugger
Quote from leonami: Stasinowsky St in Alawa is steep....
ROFL... Agreed Stasinowksy St is a little steep.. but the hill is only about 5m long and you'd be lucky to see a single car in your travels up (or down) the 'hill'.
but.. my driveway is steeper, and almost longer than that little hill.
OK, the hill at palmo up through fairways ridge or whatever the one near the top is called is a veritable cliff face, as for another one in palmo, and the main drag up the top from down the bottome. Theres also quite a few in between town where I live and leanyer where I work, I know cause I ride up and down them about 10 times a week minimum
There is a sorta steepish hill outside the casino, and it gets busy right on Govt. payday for some reason. Try walking down the sidewalk whilse pouring rain and drunk as a skunk. Climbing up a vertical ice wall would be easier.
Anyways, any sort of moving transport that you have to control whilst drunk is bad, for the simple fact that you have very little control over it.
