Watercooling

Anyone in Darwin running a watercooled setup? I know a couple of people do, i'm just curious on what kind of equip and temps and any probs people may have had up in Darwin.

everyone that i know who has used water to cool their cpu has had it leak :?

Hmm well i'm ordering all my gear next week, although pccg are out of stock for the pump I want.

I am not going with a kit setup, I thought i'd have a bit of fun and play around with it "new toys :P"

To aviod hassles I was planning to get the Globalwin SilentStream watercooling unit and adding a Vantec Tornado to the radiator.

Knight, that Proc of Jono's should do quite well with a watercooling setup :) depends on stepping info though...

Barton M's are the best atm... 2500+ Barton M's have been getting 2.5 - 2.8Ghz on air :shock: (1Ghz O/C)

im pritty sure jono has a 1900xp or 1800xp
not 100% sure tho
but if he dose that would make it a palabimo (spelling)
150$ will get you a nice little 2500xp barton that people can get to 3200xp with air cooling no worries

Yeah i'm currently running a 1700xp, but not to worry plans for a new processor ~2800 and a new pair of 512 ddr stick are in my plans :)

I am hoping with this watercooling setup I can push 2100/2200 or more from this lil 1700 - guess we'll wait and see :)

Silverprop Fusion HL (Gpu block)
Figured, they are fairly cheap, seem to be one of the best made blocks, they are an Aussie Company :P and god arent they just damn sexy :P:P

Pump, going with a Swiftech MCP-600 - While it doesn't pump as much per hour as some other pump, it does have high head pressure so should keep things moving fairly well. And for the price its about what most others are priced at.

Radiator, heh the hard part, trying to fit a water cooling unit into a LianLi pc60 without making it look stupid isn't too easy. After a bit of searching I found a write up someone did of their machine and they had a pc61 (same just diff colour). He had managed to put a Radiator of dimensions ~ 12cm x 14 in the top of the case. HERE (THe pic belongs to the user so umm thankyou lol). So i'll be using a Black Ice Extreme in the top similar to the pic.

Then you add a simple cylindrical reseviour, add some quality 1/2" id tubing, fill her up test it for a night, etc etc and bam there you go - I hope :| Water will be red, uv reactive too.

its looks dodgy and proberly is :P cost him about 50bucks and its copper sheets all soldered together

NOOOOO JONO!! not the 2800!! get a 2500, save about a 100$ and overclock the same.

The silverprop stuff is supposed to be very good. The Eheim pumps are supposed to be top of the range... not sure about the swiftech, although, if the pumps are the same level of quality as their HS's it'd be a worthwhile purchase.

Also, consider peltier elements. They are extremely good at cooling down beasty CPU's.

I once considered watercooling about 2 years ago and was recommended dangerden stuff or D-tek back then, do a search and see what comes up with that.

Distilled water and antifreeze (non-conductive) is your friend ;)

Well 2500 is nice, cheap and yea maybe certainly an option - but thats still a fair bit away, considering this watercooling system will hit the wallet fairly hard :P

I am hoping for only a few degrees above room temp and given I have some decent equip I think it's fairly possible. So mid 30's to 40 I suppose i'll be happy with (no aircon, etc)

2.4c's overclock really well, all over the net theres reports of people getting 1ghz overclocks stable off STOCK HSF with only a bit more voltage (unfortunately I dont think they sell 2.4's anymore just 2.8's and they arent as good oc'ers), apparently the new 2.4 Prescott A's are really good aswell if you can get your hands on one...

Just easier for me to stay with AMD, as it's what I use atm, so don't have to upgrade/change many parts :)

Very cheap, hell the cheapest part of my system is my cpu, well almost, floppy drive wins.

i'm getting a full koolance watercooling case/kit thingy. besisdes i thought you already had water cooling? I might have to give you a call if i need some help tho.

just on a side note, when putting the hoses on the water blocks, which one do i put them on...is it left in and right out??

hey Jonno, I have done this myself, but i got the asetek kit from Secretnet.com.au. Couple of things tho, the swiftech pumps (the DC ones) are the top of the line stuff and they run on dc so no 240v ac is your case (trust me, after electro plating myself at least twice this is a good thing). Just gotta be carefull to prime the system with water first as these pumps cannot be run dry even for a second. Second thing, I don't know if you saw this months atomic magazine but they are water cooling a case and put the resevoir on the outside of the case for easy maintenance, this is a good idea as you dont have to pours water inside your case to refill the water. Only other thing, the wider the pipe IE the larger the internal diameter of the pipe used (which is going to be related to the size of the connections on cpu block and radiator and soforth) the higher flow of water the better the cooling. Anyway, good luck, and make sure you use distilled water, it doesn't conduct electricity very well and will usually not do too much damage if it leaks in the pc.
