In Battlefield 2, players will choose to fight for one of three military superpowers: the United States, China, or the newly formed Middle East Coalition. Armed with the latest modern weaponry, players can take control of any of the game’s 30+ vehicles to engage in major conflicts with over 100 players in some of the largest online battles on the PC.

Looks like EA has been busy stealing other people's idea's to make more money.

Nothing new there.

Post 3

Maybe they should fix up Vietnam first...

Post 4

EA do not support games, they simply push them out as quickely as possible with expensive marketing hype.

Then they simply let it die, and release an entirely new version, with a completely different set of problems.

It's a vicious cycle.

Post 5

but there making money none the less :)
thats what a busniess plans to do
and the not so computer illeratrat people dont know that
my dad for example buys a game plays it never hears about patches or so on dosnt really care either he just plays it

So they're aiming for the computer illiterate market? That's probably not the wisest target market for such a business.

A GOOD business does more than aim to make money. They aim to make loyal customers. EA has failed miserably in past years.

Post 8

errr

lots of people bought enter the matrix....

Post 9

and what a horrible game it was too.

Agreed with rec about the business model, a happy customer is a customer that will come back time and time again knowing they are getting what they are paying for.

And, they are also a marketing tool for the business as they will generally recommend certain games to their friends based on the way the publisher supports the game.

As an example, CoD has had 4 patches beyond retail already from publisher Activision. BF1942 was released almost a year previously and has had all of, what, 6 patches from EA Games.

Post 10

As shit as their games may be, I still "buy" them and play them. I whinge and complain too, cos a lot of them need fixing up...

BF2 sounds... um.. lame? Seriously, who names a game "Game Title 2" Except for lots of other companies... but they'd be so much better with a cooler name. BF:V has a better name.

I guess it doesn't matter since all I did then was just shorten them all. Still, I anticipate it's coming to see what it's like.

Post 11

The name, admittedly, doesn't really suit the atmosphere. Half Life 2 or Doom 3 on the other hand...

Post 12

And the 3 sides are taking right from C&C Generals.

Post 13

EA names a game "Game Name 2"... in fact, they're the only company I know who would name the sequel to a World War orientated game "2". You're right, it is terribly lame in the context presented.

Post 14

lol rec, yeah battelfield: vietnam 2

can we see that coming or what.

so is it gonna be desert combat 2 v0.6f, hah!!

Post 15

I mean, as an example of the WW2 based naming scheme - think about the Medal Of Honour series - they choose far better titles than this 30 second 'brainstorm' from EA.

As for the original game, I actually bothered to click the link and lo and behold it looks exactly like Desert Combat. Great way to piss off a few modders.... :|

Post 16

Imho it's all about marketing :)
You look at the VHS/Beta debate, even though Beta had superior quality and sound etc VHS one out mainly due to marketing :P

They don't even need to release a new game, just a simple patch and it'll already have all the features they're trying to boast :D

Post 17

Beta had "superior" quality and sound? Hah! Correct, if you're looking at it from a purely paper perspective. Do some more research, young Padawan.

Beta was indeed the better format, but only marginally in most cases (there are many different types of Beta). Besides it's few technical advantages, VHS was a far better format as a "whole product", with a wider range of cheaper hardware, and cheaper production meant cheaper cassettes - which is exactly why it took over.

While beta, on paper, could produce approximately double the lines of an your everyday VHS cassette, if you've ever compared the two side by side I'm sure you would agree there's little to no visable difference in the quality. The concept behind the technology was almost identical, and it's because of this same concept that regardless of the path to the final product, they would never be set apart enough to make any major leaps in visual or audio clarity.

Sony made a huge mistake when they started to produce betamax tapes that were more compact, thinking that was the way to go. In reality, consumers and corporates supported the bigger cassette, VHS, which boasted twice the running time. Betamax tape times were extended, but never matched VHS.

VHS, quite simply, won simply because it was cheaper and longer.

Not if said Modders are contracted by Dice (Sweden).... guess time will tell on this one though

Post 19

My dad did something about this at university rec, hes like attached to saying that Beta is better? So i believe him :P

Post 20

hey looks its BF2!! ill buy it just so i can miss playing it twice!

if BF1 is shit then not much hope for BF2 :)

Post 21

they should make a BF:darwin 2000
or something get all the hippies and shit together to smoke weed and kill things

Post 22

Warning: Hippies and Kill should not be used in the same sentence.

Unless of course "Themselves" comes after the "Kill"

Post 23

This comming from the person who had rainbow in the title for your streaming music thingy or something.

Post 24

I had thought that the 2 bit signified a new 'engine'. As with Doom 1,2,3 and Halflife 1,2 each new version had a revamped 'engine'. But maybe not.

Post 25

Quiet Tachi.. it was um... a coincidence (dont ask why)!

Longtom: Knowing EA a doubt it.

I reckon it will flop :P
