If you're reading this, you're doing it via Gamers Underground's latest face lift.

Included in this overdue update is a comlpetely new forum system, based on the VB system rather than the one we all know; PHPBB2. We've ported as much of the content as possible, however there have been certain issues, a perfect examlpe is it not tranferring avatars correctly. This will have to be done manually - we do appologise for any inconvenience however correcting this issue for the port was out of our reach.

As you may well have noticed, the /phpBB2/ is now inactive, so update your bookmarks accordingly. We've also thropwn up a new front page to be found at our home page; gamers-underground.com.

-Please fire off any technical queries or issues to overdrive -at- gamers-underground.com, and he'll get onto your interest or concert regarding the recent changes as soon as possible. For anything else, feel free to relpy to this thread.

Once again I'll thank you all for your ongonig support over the many years GU has been operational; there's no community without the people that make it.

Enjoy,
Team GU

The site looks sweet. WD

Post 3

bout time :P

just a thought were do we go to fix/read our (pm's) (user details)?

Post 4

Woot :D

Sweet. Very Well done to all involved.

Post 5

umm yeah looks good kinda like going from windows to linux just easier?!?!?

Post 6

In the next few days we'll have to clean up a lot of things - apart from avatars, the first thing I've noticed is that you might want to check your profiles timezone and set it correctly - mine was set to GMT.

Also, all permissions (ie: getting into private forums, usergroups, etc) are not yet done and will be done during the day Friday.

It's going to take a bit to get used to, but once we have all settled in, it will give us many more options to take GU to the next phase of its existance.

So please, any problems, issues, etc you have - let me know.

Post 7

Looks sweet
First impressions when i saw you were using VB wernt too good, but hay it might grow on me.
Nice effort guys.
With this forum lift are we having a revamp on game servers?

Post 8

The first task was to get everyone across to the new forum - expect layout changes, etc with the new forum once everything is settled down. Our main concern was to get the import working ok and not to lose too much.

Post 9

It took about 30 seconds in the control panel to work out what I was missing :) It's awesome.

The only thing I gotta say is I miss coloured smilies :(

Post 10

In your Control Panel, under options, you will notice that by default, you are NOT shown peoples avatars or sigs - or even thread images at all - you can now customise that to your own preference.

Post 11

Two quick things:

1. How do I get it so that every thread I post in is not subscribed to?
2. There is a spelling mistake for Guarantee (spelt Gurantee) in the top right "Exposure" link.

Post 12

Also set you times aswell +9.30 for us darwin boys and girls

Post 13

Bleh some notice at least woulda been nice lol. The private forums to some are very important, and I don't recall even the mods getting a bit of notice either :S Oh well too late now (yea yea flame me all you want for bitching).

Rec choose another colour other than brown :S

Other than that looks great, and I like the ability to use vB code :P

Post 14

Jono... stop your whinging :p :p

Post 15

Sorry, but it was a matter of at the last minute the timing was right - it was that or put it off for another month... I'm sure a few hours away you can handle.

In reality, it's only the hour af about midnight Thursday night to Friday morning when you wont have private forum access - and thats when 95% of people are asleep. Give me a break eh...

Post 16

heh guess im in a bitchy mood

lol it's ok OD, my appology, it's great work ;)

Post 17

And I guess I'm too tired to take it - you get that after a stressful import in the early hours of the morning though don't you...............

Post 18

Tis all good, i like so far.

Post 19

aha! I see where the spelling mistake came from now:

Quote from "me":
2. There is a spelling mistake for Guarantee (spelt Gurantee) in the top right "Exposure" link.

Quote from "rec from Tick Tock Thread":
I'm not garunteeing a damn thing!

Bad rec! No spellchecker for youuuu! :p

Post 20

Post 21

I'm not actually. Perhaps I should start. ;)

Post 22

Post 23

Hrm.

Congrats on the change-over.

But damn its ugly. I guess i dont like brown :P

Post 24

Looks good - but is this the real site or just the April Fool's joke ?

j/k

wd people

One thing - I show up as a Moderator ? or is that part of the above joke ?

Post 25

Hmmm it will take abit of getting used to, like the previous switch

Colour scheme is a little bright, specially for us cave trolls who browse this in a darkened cave.

I shall have another spoonful of patience (my diet lately) and await further developments.

Post 26

wow i got moved across in the update :O

Post 27

Shit .... this is certainly different

Post 28

Quote from "korney":

dam..!!! :P

Post 29

Ha!
We all have "Moderator" next to our names...but when i changed it to "El Moderatorio", it blanked out everything but "El *********io" :P

Post 30

i guess you can't actually put the word "Moderator" in your title yourself...

Post 31

And Burk wins the prize! :)

Post 32

But I cant moderate .... what a gip ....

Post 33

Are you making derogatory reference to my Gypsy heritage?

Post 34

No just saying I dont give a tinker's ...

Post 35

hehe. like the the changeover. its definatly different :) but change is always good.

Post 37

I dont like the look but i'll fiddle around with it and see what happens, but good to see the upgrade :)

I havnt had a comp for a while now so im just using the school ones, but blah :) wd

Post 38

Well yesterday it was the usual, wake up jump online to GU and browse, this morning it was OMFG GU has gone down..........then I realised new re-direction...

I knew it was coming, but WELL DONE nice effort

Thumbs up from me :)

Post 39

mmm....good upgrade.

one comment - apart from the baby poo colours - have you guys thought about formatting the personal information to the side of each message? this way of formatting tends to destroy any sense of continuity in thread structure. something more like this:

Post 40

http://www.gamers-underground.com/forum/showpost.php?p=169648&postcount=8

Post 41

hmmm...ok, now i'm scared...but message received, loud and clear sir.

Post 42

As clarification, will users be given a choice (in the old BB forums, not GU specifically, but many others) on colour schemes in their User Control Panel ?

Or will the colour scheme be global?

(not trying to push the issue as the current scheme suits me fine, just curious :))

Post 43

The colour scheme will remain global, as it is, customised to Gamers-Underground.

Post 44

WD guys looks sweet, runs better and after 2 mins hunting around the CP I found everything I needed to find.

Really WD guys, NTG could learn a few 'implementation' lessons from you guys.

Sweet Work!

Post 45

great stuff guys

Post 46

:( I lost all my PM's

Post 47

Can the advertising be flash based?

Post 48

Well done!!! Wooot

Post 49

i likes it, but how do i change what it says under my name?

Post 50

i guess I should voice my opinion or it wouldnt be right.

I like the front page and I originally liked the colours. Havent looked into options doubt I will any time soon.. yet I read about some of them they seem pretty cool. however something about this entire layout irks me. The forums seem to difficult to read. I dont know if its just me but individual posts seem to blur into one another. Maybe one dark one light post or something.

Post 51

WD guys...initial changes look fine to me..
i can finally browse thru the forums without my glasses on...

Post 52

:( i think when you have the time you should import colour schemes or something, not trying to whinge but I know not everyone likes the new colours...

but I guess you cant please everyone ;)

Post 54

what would clinton know?

ohhh shit sorry he knows about cigars!

:P

Post 55

Quote from rec:

ok now it all makes sense

rec assumed that therefore the converse was also true.... the secret to success is please noone at all. :D

but yeah.... we'll probably get used to the colours... awful though they are, I actually hate the icons more than the colours :P

Post 56

At some stage I'll create an alternate GU colour scheme for the forum, a darker one. However at this stage, cosmetics is the last thing on our minds. Since launch, every minute I've spent at home has been in front of my monitor making changes to this forum system. Dan is in the same situation, unfortunately for him he hasn't left the house since launch, and subsequently only had four hours sleep last night, and is still making backend changes as I write this.

If you have a major issue and want it fixed right this very minute, send us every detail on how to make it happen. Otherwise, understand that this transition hasn't been an easy one, and we have a lot to learn about the VB forums and how to setup them up and keep them setup correctly.

Post 57

righto, keep up the good work... or not... actually... have a nap or something.

all we can really see is the cosmetics :D

Post 58

Are you for serious? That's strange, I was sure I gave you all unlimited access to see the entire backend.

Post 59

I've found the little thing to the "backend" of the forum. Let's call GU the Matrix, i have access to the "real world"

*GRIN*

With the new setup of member details to the left side, i'm liking this forum more than ever. Even the poo brown is growing on me

Post 60

I quite like the new scheme - even the colours aren't terrible :) (been on boards with similar so I guess I'm used to it)

Post 61

It's not to bad......will probably grow on me

Post 62

Quote from ruin:

Flash ads? ah keeeeell you.

(thank god for the click-to-view-flash xpi)

Incidentally, rec: any chance of having the "you are here" doodad at the bottom of each list of posts? It would greatly speed up the process of returning to a forum from a thread.

Post 63

Eh-heh.. whoops! I put Linear - Newest First. Thought it was a bit odd that Stealthninja posted... and reading through was awkward... people were being quoted before they actually said it...

Anyhow, I love the new changes except the colour. I miss the colour smilies too. That's the only fault I don't like. I like the custom titles (not that im changing) the options to change what you see (images, avatars etc), 19.5kb avatars (for better animation) and lots lots more!! Great work Dan & rec... glad it happened now and not next month. I'll get use to the colours... that or change to mono colours. I liked the silver.

Post 64

Is it my imagination or do the new posts icons not get reset between logging in?

Post 65

nice site, i love it :)

Post 66

i like the graphics and stuff. yellow a little bright, but ill grow on it.

hey everyone i remember from the good old days!!! *me waves*

Post 67

*waves back*

i remember u agent

still playing wc3 cs with 4 lv 10 chars?
:P

Post 68

Yes!

Hello....!!! I can finally log on!! Well done you guys ive been trying for ages... hooray.
Looks great now as well... Gotta put my own picture on though

Post 69

pretty good facelift.

still got a few bugs but i guess theyll all get fixed soon

can we have an intro flash? (is that already in this thread? :S) anyway, thatd look great, flash intros are sweet :P

im kind of preferring the old setup tho, but this is still a great job boys.

Post 70

Flash animations? The point of this recontruction was to boost the professional flare of the community face (it's a shame you're all ugly underneath) and get things ready for the changes to come, not impress twelve year olds with music and sparkles in a corny flash animation. :)

Post 71

Corny flash animation is cool :P

Post 72

of course it is
