it was fastfood, ****ing shitty chicken treat, 7.80 an hour (im 17), and im pretty sure the manager mumbled sumthing about september when he said xtra 100 a week which coinincedentally is the samn month that i turn 18 which means a payrise
oh and by the way. just remember folks that we need to be content on where we live and how we take wages for granted. not saying that 7 bucks an hour is not shitty but here's a story.
my cousin who lives in asia goes to university in malaysia. she found a job in the paper where the university she was going to was offering a job... so she worked there for an hour. and the boss said. okay, i'll call you when things get busy okay. and her wage... "here you go" *hands her two dollars malaysian ringgit* LOL then she complained about the bus trip itself costing 50 cents. then there are stories of where people work doing jobs that involve 7 day weeks from morning to late evening just to earn a few hundred bucks a month. this isn't slave labour mind you. this is their way of life. they have no rights, no overtime pay, nothing. again they are not being oppressed directly by people, but its just their way of life
so, all im saying is, by all means its good to look for jobs that are better and give you more fulfillment (and more pay of course) but if you're in a job and complain very heavily about ir, just think that it could be worse and you get handed 2 bucks of pay....

Yet a bus trip in Aus costs you $4...
Notice the difference here - the standard of living in Australia is very high so things are expensive. We are also the highest taxed country in the world. Therefore wages have to be at a certain level in order for a person to live.
The same applies to other countries as you have said, just in smaller quantities.
In saying that, I understand where you're coming from... and it's screwed up that people can work such long hours for shit all pay.

Just to reprise my role as He Who Is Pedantic About Factual Stuff.
We definitely pay too much tax (and I have my fingers crossed for big cuts tonight), but we're not the highest taxed in the world: we're the highest taxed in the OECD. Try Sweden instead.
Secondly, rising prices have many causes, but in the long run it is inflation of the money supply that makes the difference: the amount of dollars growing faster than real wealth. This is particularly bad for lower income earners.
Oh, and we have a higher cost of labour, which means things cost more and there's more unemployment.

yeah, but they have a more left wing government and get it back in the form of benefits like free health care, unlike us who have to pay for medicare, private health insurance etc.
