IPOD's

just wondering if anyone has one? or would like to buy a new one from the shop...

what do people think about the new IPOD's??? they are $450 *close enough* however, if a number of people want to buy them... we may be able to lower the cost?

The female half's sister has a 40G iPod, most recent generation. We've returned it so far 3 times, each time dying to the point of. It just won't do anything.

Definitely turned off from getting iPod's now. Looking at the brands that are recently releasing mp3 players, eg iRiver IHP140 I think, (40G)

i like my ipod (15gb)

mates got a 40 gig one, i used it for a bit and it's awesome.

design is awesome for a player that can hold so much.

i've read many things about ipods having battery issues though, something like one in five get returned due to short battery life

The newest generation has been having some issues. But most of the <20gb models are fine.

Plus, there are so many extras that you can do with it besides listen to music that they are a worthwhile purchase if you're in the market. eg voice recording (record a lecture for instance) and you can load up other files to transport (so it's like an external hard drive in a sense).

i dont want to get an ipod because i hate itunes
and I like the design of the creative muvo's better :)

The Creative Muvo's are trash, and what's wrong with iTunes? Second only to Winamp. ;)

itunes is leagues ahead of winamp.

I love iTunes, but still prefer Winamp.

Winamp 2.79 does me fine :)

Then again I've never spent any great deal of time with iTunes.

Winamp 5 has all the good bits of every winamp ever, and then some :)

Yeah, a clean and simple interface that takes up a lot of desktop room... If you ask me, an media player should be nothing more than that. All I ask for in a media player is it to be able to play my music and take up minimal resources so I can listen to music whilst doing other things. I think thats where a lot of things in technology go wrong... instead of doing one thing well, they do multiple things not as well/crap. I think the idea behind the ipod is good, but I think it could use some work in the design department. A white rectangle no matter how 'sleek' and 'sexy' is still a regular white rectangle. I personally don't see the big hype about it when there are plenty of mp3 players out there that do the same thing and don't look so boringly rectangular.

Personally, I think you made the right choice Brownie... computer > ipod

there's a minimal mode for itunes that is exactly that. minimal. also. when all you do is minimize it and use the play/pause buttons on your ereet multimedia keyboard, what the hell does interface size matter ;). when you need to interact with the application, you can, and its where itunes shines, from being damn easy.

what the hell, other mp3 players hold about 256mb.

and as for boringly rectangular... wtf other shape is something with a hdd in it going to look like?? some sort of dildo shape perhaps??? ffs, its small.. and it has massive capacity, the fact that its shiny is just a ****ing bonus.
Plus, the touchpad is just awesome, and as for itunes, I think its brilliant, seeing as i run winamp minimised anyway, they make no difference, and itunes has the "mini mode" anyway, which is bloody tiny.

Then theres the intelligent playlists, which I don't really bother with, but the stats it keeps on what you listen to are fairly interesting.

Just as a note i got the 15gb ipod the other day, and I haven't had a chance to take it anywhere, but still, its bloody excellent, all shiny, mmmm.

now i just need to find out if i can get some more games for it.

Yeah I have a 15 gb Ipod (And will have a 64bit amd as soon as the new gc's are out) and it hasn't had any problems since I got it about 2-3 months ago. Sound quality on them is amazing and if you get a female to female audio input you can hook them up to big speakers and pump them up. I got the usb 2.0 working on my comp finally by mixing a 98 driver with a win2k driver ( didn't have to get spk1) and the upload speed is gr8 put 7 gigs of music on in a flash. Also use it to carry movies and demos from place to place...very good investment imo.

Got my 20GB in the US about 6 months ago or so. Having every piece of music I know at my fingertips where ever I go is well worth the price. I havn't had any issues with the battery either, though one of my mates who bought his in aus has had to take it back 3 or 4 times.
