Now, i'm almost dead certain this has been asked before - but, people's opinions do change. Personally - I'm a Cooper's Pale Ale lover, and have been for a few years.

Grolsch is always a favoured beer
and Kilkenny on tap is very sought after
Everyday drinking is usually sterlings or any ice beer

The fact you dislike Pale Ale, and drink Carlton Sterling is enough to discredit your taste in beer... I will however agree that Kilkenny on tap is brilliant, as is Stella.

A 15 year old single malt Highland Glenfarclas is the best value for money scotch ("13), ive had.
Personally i can't afford the price tag all the time so a 8 year Highland Glenfarclas goes nicely for $45 or a 8 year Islay Bowmore for $45

Beer. Well nothing beats Boags or Steller, but there pricey. Amstel is just starting in aust so its cheaps as and its about as good as a stell except its only $30 a slab. If im going aussie beer and cheap, i'll go Calton Draught at the lowest or at a pub VB on tap isnt to bad.

Stella and James Boag off tap is fcking HEAVEN - i had that in Sydney airport. Bloody best $6 ever :o I've always had this opinion on Corona's - and that's that Mexican's buy the sht for less then $5 Australian - and we spend more then $30 on it? Tastes like mexican piss, even if you put lemon in it :evil:

Well, im only new to the alcohol related drinks, so there's not much I've tried. I'd have to say Jim Beam is about the best I've had so far. Excluding girly nice stuff like Vodka mudshakes and cruisers.
Other than that, Sprite... I love Sprite.

Jim Beam = Year 9/10 introduction to booze --> any further on, and you're just sad
Vodka = ANY type of Vodka reminds me of Everclear, and for that fact my ex - and it also is disgusting
Red Wine = Awesome to have any time of the night, or any kind of weather.
Mixers = Experimental drinking is fun, different cocktails make or break a night
Midori = The only slightly chick orientated drink i would have mixed with stuff like Agrum or juice
Pale Ale / Tooheys New = Fav. affordable beer

For beer, I realy do enjoy Carlton Cold... I never realy get anything different because the old man likes it too, so I buy a carton one week, he buys it the next... best way to go.
Higher priced beer, and I'll almost always go for Hahn Premiums. Crownies are overrated.
And Jim Beam is my hard drink of choice. Only after a few beers though.

Jonny blue isnt to bad, but why pay that amount for a decent blend when you can buy a 18 year chivas for 78 bucks that tastes close to jonny blue
For a pure taste, only buy single malts.
Get an islay for some heavy smokey shit, a highland for fruity and ol' school sherry scotch. Lowlands are hard to find in melb (atleast ive had little luck) and spyesea is just a part of the highland really, dont fool yourself, it is :)

Start on some blends and develop some tastebuds for single malts

if you have around 50-60 bucks a Glenfarclas 8 year single malt is a pretty good buy. It has a distinctive smell and taste of sherry within the scotch and unlike a Glenfiddich a Glenfarclas leaves a nice fruity after taste.
I started on jonny red, then jonny black, then jonny green, then chivas 12, chivas 18, glenfiddich heritage, glenfiddich 12 yr, glenfarclas 8 year and then a islay (pronouenced eye-la if your wondering) legends.
I've tasted and bought many more, but after tasting the 8 year glenfarclas and 8 year islay legends ive tended to stick with them, unless a good mate is around i might pull out something abit better if he/she can actually taste the scotch properily instead of just feeling a vodka burning sensation.
After tasting a few at bars (because i cannot afford to buy them per bottle), ive found once you get over 15-21 years (so the 23s, 25s, 28s and 30s+), its just like sucking pure oak wood. Because of the achole content in the barrels, the barrels tend to degrade quicker after 21 years.
When buying a scotch thry not to go under 8 years, unless its for mixing with coke or other things. and dont buy a scotch without its age written on it. 3 years is the min distiller age.
Also when it says 30 yr blend, it means the youngest scotch in that blend is 30 years. In blends the scotches can comes from all over the country
The age process is the same for a single malt as a blend but the scotches only come from the 1 distiller.
If you find a single barrel scotch count yourself lucky. there quite rare now.
And dont think yourself silly buying a blend, there a good scotch to start on. However try develop a taste for single malts, because they tend to have more distincitve tastes than blends.

I only get to taste whatever my parents and their friends are drinking on any given night so i havn't had much experience but the best thing i ever tasted was port. My dad got it from a friend, it fell off the back of a truck and was made sometime in 1902. Good stuff.
