TNT has contracted PELAIR to operate a westwind between Darwin and Melbourne, with frieght forwarding through to melbourne from other citys like sydney, brisbane, this all happens at night time. A Westwind is a small jet, but dedicated to frieght operation only, ie no pax.
TOLL also contract PELAIR to operate their freight service.
Two Seperate jets.
THey both take off from darwin with about 15 mins apart fly to alice springs, refuel, pickup/offload frieght etc, then fly onto melbourne...they wait abit, then turn around and return to darwin, all within the same night, which is why stuff can get here overnight.

TNT also use airliners like Virgin, and QANTAS to move frieght aswell, however, they donot use AAE to forward for them.
Australian Air Express utilises only the QANTAS flights from down south to move its frieght, and most of the time it only comes on the international services, reason being that, for ease of use, frieght is normally packed into shipping containers that fit into the belly of a jet, so its a case of simply rolling it in to load etc. However - problem is, that QANTAS and VIRGIN now utilise the Boeing 737 - Which does not have the capabilty (dimensions to accomadate these shipping containers.) So freight either has to be packed individually into the plane, or forwarded to the larger aircraft, like the 767 or 747 for shipment, which is what AAE do. Ie most of the frieght gets forwarded to Adelaide, to come up on the international flights, through darwin.
Now problems for reasons why frieght is late.
Wet Season....planes need to carry extra fuel to come to darwin cos the clouds are too low, visibilty is too low, or there is thunderstorms in the area, more fuel means less frieght.
Dry Season.....planes carry more grey hairs to the northern parts, cos its too cold down south and they move north for the winter, hence....more baggage and grey haireds, therefore less frieght.
Now with Jet*, things should hopefully improve for us here in darwin when it comes to airfreight...why...cos Jet* will be operating A320, which...has capability to carry the shipping containers. Hence, put our frieght on them.
