Hi everyone. :) Ive been looking around at a few Broadband prices and plans lately over at Whirlpool, but wanted some hand-on reports on how some of these ISP's perform. Mainly Westnet, iiNet and Internode.
Internode are looking good, with a 512/128 32Gb plan, but as of late everyone seems to be churning off them, and Im not sure why? They seem to have consistent Pings to gaming servers, a lot of files mirrored locally, and very few downtimes or dropouts. Seems like the best ISP, so why is everyone jumping ship?
iiNet are looking good also, with another 512/128 Unlimted plan, for the same price. However, I have heard a lot of bad reports about iiNet dropping out on people, which is something I definately do not want. Is this true though? Has this happened to many users?
Finally, Westnet have the 512/128 30Gb On and 30Gb off peak service, for the same price as the other two ISP's. I was wondering why they have decided to give such a large allowance for a small price. If any user of Westnet is on these forums, please let me know what pings to gaming servers are like, and if you have every experienced some downtime or dropouts.
All three ISP's seem very appealing, but I still wonder about whats the best service provider for pings and stability. :?
Unfortunately however, internode have recently scrapped their 'premium' plans, meaning all their plans are shaped. In saying this however, just keep your eye on their price list, because node change their plans as much as i change jocks....ok that isnt very often, but you get my drift.
I have never had a problem with iiNet, always as good a ping as internode and it has never dropped out on me yet. But that's in Darwin. I have heard some dubious reports about them in southern cities.
Node's great... but I don't agree with their new plans changes. (Not the SOHO plans.. which are cool - the fact they scrapped the plan that I'm on and a anumber of others)
iinet seems very good and has similar pings to Node's game servers as Node does.
iiNet have been great, not a problem. Not one drop out yet and my computer is normally on for weeks at a time. The pings are great, just as good as Node. On the Node servers you can swing by pings of 55. Have yet to be shaped on the unlimited plan so all is good.
Just hoping they release a 512/512 plan like the Node did. XD
i have been on iiNet for a while....and now i am on the 1.5mbit lite plan.
i have been NEVER had a dropout but some customer service reps didnt even know darwin had adsl.......therefore it is a pain to get it setup but runs beautiful once it is....iiNet is also upgrading al its DSALM's or something like that which is meant to make them able to provide up to 8mbit adsl (not sure so check it urself)
I really wish Node would consider a DSLAM in Darwin... 8mbit ADSL is so tempting... (yes, node/agile are putting DSLAM's in but no Darwin because the demand is too low :()

You do realise you get to keep the plan you are on as long as you don't change from it?
And oodLes where did you hear that people are leaving 'node? Granted there was an initial uproar over the new plans on Whirlpool but you must remember that Whirlpool is not indicative of 'nodes total userbase (or any ISP's total userbase for that matter).
