Isn't that going to be abit hard with steam :|
It's only banning it from Retailers shelves. It can be purchased internationally. I feel sorry for those without a decent internet connection though...
a big download over Steam at 56k... :S
**** I knew there was something bad about moving down south.

around 2gig at least.
The Aussie game rating Nazis are really starting to get out of hand
Potentially has a rock that looks like a nipple, an alien that has a niplple, or an alien getting violently killed that has 2 arms and 2 legs that could possible resemble a human even though it has 3 heads and 15 eyes.

And a nipple....
ohh well our money will go to steam rather than local distributers,
yeh, steam cant block us from ordering the game can it?
it could.
.. but it's doubtful.
the real issue for me is playing it over the internet. If the game is not allowed to be released here in Australia via stores then will Australian companies/people be allowed to host servers for it? i don't see why they would be allowed to ... and this would mean playing overseas servers which in turn means that any internet connection you have is basically useless. eew.
if its banned in australia than no aussies servers...no aussie distribution (bar the black market and ebay etc)...and if it is they might tell steam to not alow Australian ips to download it. seen as if you were able to download it online legitly through steam why would they bother banning it due to a rating, when 10 year old kids could get it even more easily than in stores.
but i HIGHLY doubt it will be banned.
3 possibilities
1. it gets banned, which we all don't want
2. it doesn't get banned and we get it in its full glory
3. it doesn't get banned but its nerfed down to get an MA rating like the GTA series.
i don't know though how half life 2 could get an R rating. Language? Violence?
language and violence have always been ok with australian ratings. its sex that's a big no no. Soooooo does this mean there's some nicely rendered titties out there...(hmmmmmmm alyx....)
Isn't it available to download from Steam right now though?
Pre-loading through steam.
if they do ban it in aus i think some ppl probably wont play it (i kno i wont cause i cbf d/l it over 56k) which wil really suck
You could always just buy it from an online store in the UK close001. Or maybe even NZ but im not sure if they have an R rating, but they do release games like GTA unedited.
Anyway alota games get an R rating over there but only an M or MA here. Highly doubt it would be any diff for HL2. Although could be good for it to get banned if it leads to changes in the shitty classification system here when all the nerds riot :p
I don't want it to get banned because, as you said Kawolski, they're nerds... However, they don't riot. It's the laziness factor.
Hopefully though, if the OFLC does ban it, I am proven wrong.
They would lose a % market share if they didnt release it in Aus.
If anything, the game will be nerfed to meet our standards.
The trouble is, is that games are still being rated like movies. Games have an advisory label, which should be treated the same as video medium, but alas, are not. The sensor's live in the dark age and are out of touch with the youth of today.
Hell, i can search for Amps and get amplands free TGP links on the net. All the depravity a youngster can get his hands on, yet they cant play a game with a bit of blood and gore.
Even if they do, and ur on 56k, you will know someone on ADSL who wants it too, and Im sure they'll have a burner handy.....as long as you have the keys. Plus with the fact that its preloading on steam, suggests that it wont b banned
what i mean is there is a lot of ppl who would buy the game and put it on there own system but would still play...............like myself i probably wont play it at all cause of the stupid steam bs i hate it
maybe i will start pre-loading after all.... just in case.
i was going to buy the collectors edition box thingy. for someone that doesnt regularly buy games that was going to be a big deal.

you might just have to put up or shut up.
Wrathlon, I remember a time when I new nobody that had ADSL. A lot of 56kers will be in this position, even today.
Yeah point, but I mean surely they would know someone who ended up getting it at some point
anyone else trying to figure out what it must have done to get a R 18+ rating?
and in all seriousness, how the **** can non gamers say whether a game is suitable for us, seriously, a bunch of ****ing suits in a boardroom cant ****ing classifie anygame, let alone one of the most highly anticipated of all time.
they will be in a world of shit if they try to ban it
And that my friends, is the pissed off gamers you were talking about ;)
I wrote them a letter today.
To Whomever it may concern.

Guys, relax. D3 got a R 18+ rating in Europe and got released here no hassles. My bet is same happens here.
Yeah they won't ban it, look at games like Manhunt and The Suffering, they haven't been banned, even though there is a fair bit of controversy over them not being banned.
uh. i'm pretty sure manhunt HAS been banned.
yeah it got removed from the shelves a few weeks ago.
who cares if it gets an r Rating im over 18 so i dont care :)
Bring on the computerised boobies :D
and lenko whats concer mean :P
Flam you wank.... If it gets an R18+ it will not be released, as Australia doesn't have the r18 classification, so therefore the oflc will not allow it to be released.
they can easily change it so that R18+ games do get released. like i said...they've got too much to loose by banning it.

Like the life of the guy who made the final decision to ban it.
exactly. i dont think they want 1 million email on the day of the aouncement something like what milenko said:
"WTFOMFGBBQSIFBANHLYOUFAGGORT **** *** ***** **** *** *****
Love, the Australian gaming public."
