idle speculation;
lehman to open instead of the hamstrung hayden, katich to slot into the middle order. not really certain what they'll do with the bowlers, none of them deserve to be dropped or 'rotated'. lee is making the kiwis brown their undies, and mcgrath and gillepsie are, well lets face it, mcgrath and gillespie. if it's going to be a seamers pitch, possibly rest hogg and let kasprowicz have a run, katich can bowl left arm leggies so he can kind of cover hogg there. but hogg has also made useful runs in the last two games, even tho given the top and middle order he really shouldn't be called on to do that. will be interesting to see the final eleven.

hehehe a bit off topic but one of the best moments in sport was in Rugby Union when Scotland? I believe started walking towards the Kiwis as they were doing the Haka.
No disrespect just to show that they weren't intimidated, they all ended up pretty much nose to nose while the Kiwis finsihed it off.

If by set in their ways, you mean they're not dicking around and fiddling with a team that is very very hard to beat, then more power to them.
Shane Watsons bowling has certainly improved a lot since the last time I saw him play for Aus, but it's not enough to warrant him a specialist bowler position ahead of the current 'top four' (gillespie, mcgrath, lee, kasprowicz). He needs to start doing something with the bat in limited overs matches too, something he's consistently failed to do in the chances he's been given. One half century and strike rate of 67 in 27 matches is not very impressive.
Quite possibly he needs a few matches in a row to hit his stride, but consistently underperforming in a side that demands excellence is a good way to be shown the door.
Speaking of underperforming, it may nearly be time to give Symonds a rest, and that may be the avenue Watson needs to show his stuff. Symonds has everything but consistency, he has great stats, is about as destructive as they come with the bat, is a freak in the field, and bowls useful tweakers and medium pacers. His contribution in the NZ series was rather minimal tho.
The Lee conundrum is another matter. He really is exciting to watch to bowl, and brings a great deal of energy into everything he does in a game. I strongly believe he should be picked ahead of Kasprowicz, not because of anything Kasprowicz has done wrong, but because Lee can intimidate and blast out the opposition like noone else Australia has to offer. Not to mention he loves to throw the bat around too, and can contribute useful runs in the lower order.
The problem isn't the selectors willingness to pick 'exciting' players, the problem is that the public is too used to seeing a team perform at previously unheard of levels of brilliance. They're making the exceptional seem mundane, and the country has forgotten what it was like to be the West Indies whipping boy.
The current team is exciting. Gilchrist is in a class of his own when he's in full flight with the bat, Hayden is joyous to watch in a different way when he's carving the bowling attack up. Ponting is almost certainly the best fieldsman in world cricket, anybody who can't appreciate watching him swoop around in the mid wicket region doesn't deserve to have an opinion on the state of the game. Not to mention his scintillating innings in the World Cup final, who wasn't excited by that? Martyn needs to do something in one day games soon too, he's not going to obliterate a bowling attack with sheer hitting power, but his batting as an effortless elegance about it that is good to watch. Symonds? get some consistency boy. Clarke? don't have to say much here, good find, hope he doesn't crumble under the sudden fame. Lehmann? such a shame he had to wait for so long to play for his country. His uncovential batting has been a rock for Australia to rely on in both forms of the game. Bradd Hogg always seems to be having the time of his life out there, and recent performances have been top notch. He's also a great 12th man (remember the bangladesh test match here?)
Anyway, pft to those who think the Australian team isn't excitement packed. You're a pack of spoilt children who won't know what you had until (if) we're back being flogged around the park.

Well said Topgun.. thank god for the rain was the report in the papers down here. Kiwis were at an advantage to take out the game due to some last minute bunny hopping by the aussie team. they could not determinie where the first bunny was going but the report said the rest of the team would have ended up with funny brown stuff over their faces "AGAIN"

Yeah, they are brilliant. But its a pity we will wait until we ARE being flogged around the park before introducing that new blood. (With the exception of Clarke, as Warne retired)
Symonds is a champ, I'd hate to see him leave the side beacause he's magic to watch. However, for example, if he has another pissy effort at making a decent knock, he DESERVES to be dropped to give one of our other brilliant and aspiring state players a shot at fame.
Its a different case for test-matches. They shouldnt be screwing around with a touring team that plays together for long intervals.
