Looking to buy a newer car. At the moment i'm driving an old ford laser. I'm now looking for something better looking and maybe faster :) I love sporty cars but I know my budget won't get me much. I'm pretty much after a nice looking car that is reliable. So is anyone selling a car or know of someone who is for around my price range?
I like Civics, Rx7's and Utes (holden or ford) for some reason :S
just some advice, if ur budgeting for 5.6k, u can't afford an RX7, u could pick up an old one, but petrol and maintenance = $$. civics - you could get an old one, and u won't find a ute for 5-6k, unless it's an old kingswood or something.
5-6k, i'd recommend maybe an old corolla, like an ae82 twincam, or maybe an n13 pulsar...
Im in the same situation as u mate, looking for a car around the 4-6k mark. I been looking here http://www.autotrader.com.au/ I think its a good option to get off my bum bum and go to a handfull of car yards too.
Yeah I knew I was dreaming but I thought i'd just let you's know what I like. Going to look at car yards probably this weekend. Can't wait for carsguide ;)
I agree with Longtom. If there are any Auctions in your area (which there should be), go to them. Go and find a car you like then just stand by it and wait for the bidding to start :) It will definitely be your best bet.
Try not getting anything that's considered luxury or a turbo... Insurance becomes expensive. (My NA BMW is the highest Category for insurance... :()
Car yards in Darwin are a complete f'n ripoff, get a mechanic in to check it head to toe if you find something at any car yard in Darwin and definitely don't settle for the price they display (check out www.redbook.com.au for pricing guidelines). Auctions are good up here though.
Govt Auctions you will get very good prices....but most of the decent cars are around 10K -13K there. But as it is an auction there are always a few that go for very cheap prices....97 Camry went for 5-6K one time.
Same with motorbikes, father in law bought a 2002 roadbike that had just been laid down and repossessed. Bought a 12K bike for 3K and then spent 2K fixing it to new, had a wild time and then sold it for 6K
Govt auctions guys or private sale in the NT, car yards are a rip off up here.
if your after a civic... they are fairly expensive.. i had mine quoted (with a dent in it) and i still get 8 grand for my 1992 si 1.6L civic
if there is a problem to a civic, they cost a SHIT load to fix! for example... and evaporator core costs normally "50 for most cars.... civics cost around the $800 mark unless u know someone ... hope this helps
on the other hand... I LOVE MY CIVIC and wouldn't get another car
Quote from lani: On the topic of buying vehicals .. Is there a good place in darwin to buy a motorbike from or should I look at frighting from downsouth?
Doing my course in a month and I have just started looking for a 250 for myself...
down south dude for sure, im shipping up a YZ250e after i get back from sydney...
Does anyone know how often they have govt auctions and what kind of cars would be in my sort of price range? If I buy from there i'd probably be willing to pay a little more as I know the life of the car atleast :)
I saw a dusty old rx7 in a car yard not too long ago for 6k, probably had a few problems right? Anyways I want reliable over fast :)
If your like me and have the hots for Asian, You know Sleek, Stylish, Sporty You might want to have a look at this______________ http://www.prestigemotorsport.com.au/
prestige is good, but there are extra costs with those beautiful $7000 supras and RX7s...you have to pay a fee to prestige, shipping, import duty and stamp duty. car has to go through compliancing (tyres, intrusion bars etc)
jm3, i have a mate who drives a series I RX7 with a 12a motor, he gets about 250kms from $45 of petrol....
will have my 95 scoupe for sale in a couple of months if anyones interested. rego til june, mags /w new tyres, alpine sound system, alarm, exhaust etc. asking 5k ono
I was Thinking of selling my Kawasaki Ninja 600cc. Less than 10,000km. Yes low kms, too busy with the Police bike. Build date 1997. Top speed: I have no idea. I could not hold on after 220 km/h. True story.
hey mate this will help you out with cars values www.redbook.com.au but my personal opinion for your price range is if you want somthing a bit old is to go for 1986/87 VL turbo commodore. its got 6cyl 3L multi-point fuel injected engine(pretty much same as efi just more simple) that is good on fuel and has guts. most have LSD diffs. if you want to spend less money go for the naturally asperated model. standard vl's do high 15's into the 16's down the quarter mile so think what a vl turbo would do. parts are cheap (caz they are common) and performance parts are also cheap. I have started work on a n/a vl engine recently for a work horse. but after saying this my opinion is very byest caz i love holdens old commodores and hate rice burners. hope i helped
edit sorry about link didnt see seqo already posted it
If you were willing to spend 7grand I would be willing to sell my 1988 Twin turbo Soarer.
2.0l, 4speed auto, electric windows, dint in lower passenger door (replacement door avaliable), digital dash, very good aircon, electric drivers seat, Pioneer MP3 Player, 2 Pioneer rear speakers, 2 Pioneer speakers in the doors.
engine works fine (I trusted it to drive from canberra to darwin) and providing you dont floor it everywhere it is quite economical.
Reason - v8 or motor bike ( I want to become a temporary australian :)
Well i think you could pick up a series 3 RX7 if you did the looking. MYmate picked up a red 13b turbo for 7g's so yeah. You have to look hard, and dont take the first thing that comes along. People are always looking to selling, so even if something not for sale, still offer a decent price and see...they could only say 'no'. Fools rush in mate.

Just bought one of these the other day for "500 with an import engine. Took it for a strap today, f*cking hammers! Excellent lil cars, i recomend them :)
Heres a pic of the scoupe if anyones interested (wil be for sale in a month or so) dont be scared of the ride hight, i will be chucking some new springs in probly next week.
