ACCC
You need to understand that being a reseller that they order parts so if they fail it may not be there fault.
Keeping the recipt and going back they should just replace it.
Have you gone through all the channels before taking it further??

im sure if you talk nicely and explain the situation, not sure if u have noticed there are 3 people from Omega that frequent these fourms every day.
Short of that He HAS to honour the warranty. As stated by jugs seagate have 5yr warranty.

Post 17
yes it applies to all of you ..
was actually ment to have knights quote in there too.
either way, applies to everybody. Either provide help and support or leave it alone.

I don't know if the same rules apply in the NT - but this is worth looking at.
The 'Department of Fair Trading' in NSW, exists to give advice and help to sort out exactly these types of situations.
Moreinfo:

Actually, on a quick glance, it looks like your equivalent might be:
Department of Consumer & Business Affairs

Post 19
yup, Consumer and Buisiness Affairs is the place to go. If you can't sort it out with him.

what a load of B>S
to all those who are reading this...peter have you told everyone how you overclock your CPU and thats why your old mother board dont work, have you also told people the truth that you nothing about computers,
STOP CAUSEING TROUBLE
Post 21
He obviously went to this guy because he knew little about computers. It sounds like the guy has NFI either. If the guy can't even honour a warranty on a HDD... well.

ROFL - please explain how overclocking your CPU can kill your motherboard.
Oh, and to quote yourself....

I realise that my post may seem a bit hypocritical considering the above, but obviously the point has to be made again.

LOL How did Xaine get pulled into this? :)
I've known Xaine for about 6 years....he knows his shit :)
FYI this is how warranty works with HDD's in most cases.
The reseller is responsible for the first 12 months, if it fails he should chase it up and send it off and do all the paperwork.
After 12 months it basically becomes the owners responsiblity.
Get your receipt and pack it off to Seagate yourself, they have offices in Aus.
Right or wrong this is basically how things work and most companies do it the same.
And you can only damage your mainboard by overclocking if the CPU goes and then the mainboard can possible get damaged.
:)
Post 24
bs pete
well of course the guy will honour the hdd warranty if he drops it off he will send it away as he has spoken to the company and they will send it off and check the hdd out.
and he went to the guy cause the parts where cheap and probably bcause he peter knows nothing about computer, but still tries to make out he knows it all cause he got shown how to do everything by billy (bits and bytes) now (leading edge) point being if he wants warrant on hdd he knows where to drop it off, if he wants to go to fair trading he can if he wants no problems here.
just stop slandering a N.T company
Post 25
Ive known Billy for 12 years man...
Xaine knows a lot more than him .
Dunno what your beef is with Xaine but stop slandering a nice guy please.
Tell Billy Scott says hi :)
Kermit, why did you bring Xaine into this? I thought it was close001 that made the post...are they related..I must be missing something.

He's giving his opinion, due to his experiences, on the company. Feedback for the rest of us. Slander, bs. Sounds like you're involved in this business in another way besides being a customer/concerned consumer.
Post 27
LOL what have I missed??????
Post 28
whoops, was supposed to quote Kermit's post.
coco, I think peter is close001... unless I'm mistaken.
Post 29
So Xaine = Close001?
Post 30

By the sounds of it he has tried to take it back .. and again brings forward the problem of resellers in the NT.
Myself about to join again to be one, 12months is the store warranty. 4years after that direct with the manafacturer
As far as bashing down on an NT company. Its his thoughts on his expierence with them. Just like some of us bash others, if you want to take note and listen then do so.
But if you think he is bs or whatever your thoughts, ignore it and non will be the wiser.

cloose 001 B.S
hello,
i have spoken to he owner of True Blue Computers,
he has asked that can everyone keep to them selves as its between close 001 and True Blue Computers. this has nothing to do with OMEGA, so do not disrespect either of the companies.
close 001 has not told the full story just his side, the owner of True Blue Computers doesn't want to go into detail but he would like to say
"close 001 had purchased a 200gb hdd and a dfi lan party board the owner of true blue computers had put the new hdd and the motherboard into the computer case and wired both components, and cleaned the heat sink and the fan as it had dust and dirt stuck to both the cpu heatink and fan, so he cleaned the heat sink and the fan as it was duty of care. ( both are 4years old or so) they had both worked until close 001 went home and over clocked his cpu.
close 001 says the motherboard worked for 30minutes ( but then said that he had the pc going all night) so i dont know what is a lie and truth there.
but true blue computers tested the motherbaord after being installed and work 100%.
the matter with the hdd, he can give the hdd back to true blue computers and he can give it to his supplier and they will test it free of charge if there are errors they will send off if to seagate but if there are no errors they will give back to true blue computers and they will give back to close 001.
i recieved my info as i called true blue computers.
Post 38
so, now.. you, on behalf of the company are able to obtain details of close001's problem over the phone? wtf? how's that not a privacy breach?
Post 39
Kermit,
You are missing the point. Wether that is the case, close001 is just passing on his view of what he believes happened and the service recieved from TBC.
It is the same as if I went to Harvey Norman and then bashed them down here.
He has a right to put forward his views and opinions. and has asked a question about what he can do about it, and we have replied.
Now on the matter of who is right/wrong in this matter, that is up to us the readers to either take the advice of 001 or ignore it. Thats for us to decide.
Post 40
so what is it ok to bag a computer company doing the right thing and what its ok for a customer for baing a spolit little brat come man see the light....
and i know the details cause im the son of the owner DUH!!!!!
Post 41
Ok, this thread has gone on quite long enough. Let me first mention that yes, I work for Omega, more specifically, I deal with ALL warranty claims arising from stock sold from the Darwin branch.
Further to that, I refuse to be drawn in on any particular case, such as this one, so the following comments are a general guide only.
How to RA your hard drive:
1) Make damn sure you think it really is broken.
2) Call the place of purchase to inform them you think it is broken.
3) Your retailer should accept the drive, and do whatever testing they do on the drive
4) If the drive is not faulty, they will return it, and have the option of charging you for the time spent.
5) If they think the drive is faulty, they return it to their supplier, who at their discretion, replace immediately, or return it to manufacturer.
6) If a drive, or any piece of hardware is returned to me, and I find it is not faulty, you can be damn sure i will apply a no fault found fee, as it wastes a good portion of my time, and that fee will be passed right back down the chain to the end user.
That's how warranty works, if its broken, it gets replaced/repaired. If it isn't, you pay for wasting peoples time.
Now I must again state that I have no comment at all about this specific scenario, please don't ask me for any information about this particular case, i'm only posting this because our company name was mentioned.
I'll be happy to answer general warranty related questions, but that's as far as it goes.
Post 42
He could be the worst customer in the world.
As far as I am concered I am taking it like a grain of salt. Previous threads and comments brought myself to this conclusion.
But who am I or you to say what he can and cannot say about the company. He had bad dealings there in his eyes and putting his point across. THAT is all he is doing.
He wanted to know how to take this further, whether he does or doesnt not is his choice.
And as far as the mind reading of knowing you were the son, well we wont go there on that one.
Post 43
I think we should lock it Paladin.
Both sides have said their piece.
I wish people would announce their interest/affiliation before posting this info but it cant be helped .
Small towns being what they are.

So slander is now legal in australia is it, i think not....
he can say what he likes as long as he is not slandering TBC
if close001 or anyone here does slander the matter will be taken care of.
close 001 was at my residence yesterday and because he asked my father (owner of TBC) to replace a heatsink and fan that my father cleaned because of duty of care, my father said no i would not replace it as he had brought the product from bits and bytes not TBC and had put the heatsink and fan onto hils old motherboard and fried the heatsink and fan due to unknown reasons. TBC is not at fault... jus because TBC would not replace something that wasn't their problem.
Post 45
Doyen's right. How the **** did you get private details regarding close001's issue with the company? Something's screwed up right there.
Also, why are you so defensive regarding TBC?
EDIT: The truth is revealed.
Slander: False and defamatory spoken words tending to harm another's reputation, business, or means of livelihood. Slanderis spoken defamation; libel is published.
If they are not false claims, then it is not slander. Personally, I'm tending more towards believing the guy that has been burnt rather than the son of the guy doing the burning.
Post 46
read above seqo.. he is the owners son.
