To get ready for Quake 4!

Looking at the MX510 or the MX1000. Just wondering what the difference is apart from the price and one being cordless. I'm reading on the logitech website the MX1000 uses a laser instead of an LED? So is that better than the MX510 and if so, by how much?

mx510 is corded therefore no mouse lag whatsoever...
mx1000 is cordless and whilst you have awesome sensitivity you still have that little bit of mouse lag.

If you don't mind mouse lag of wireless then the mx1000 is definitely the way to go without a doubt... If you prefer corded zero lag then mx510 all the way!

Get an mx518
;)

Post 5

how much are mx518's anyways?

have a look here

Post 7

hrmm they are about as much as mx510's and they look so much nicer :D I'd probably go for one of them ruin if you like corded mice...

If you want cordless but don't wanna pay big $ for an mx1000 try the mx700. AFAIK it's just a cordless version of an mx510. I use one and I don't notice any lag.

I hate the MX1000, especially when playing First Person Shooters. Not recommended from me... go the MX510 or MX518.

has the optical resolution of an mx500, not an mx510. so an mx500 with features such as noticable lag, a dodgy recharger and approximately 3 tonnes of dead weight.

Do not get the mx 1000, I have one and I think its not worth it at all

I know woop has one too, and she sufferes from the same problems I get.

The biggest downside of it is occasionally, it jumps about an inch south, runing shots in games and stuffing up anything you are doing.... very very annoying.

The other reason I got the mx1000 was because I thought it was bluetooth, and came with a bluetooth hub/charging station...... I was wrong....

If you can live with a cord, get a 510, much better

I have the LX 700 cordless KB and Mouse. No lag at all on the mouse, extremely accurate for FPS and of course as it's Logitech, it's a pleasure to use.
I was a staunch MS fan before using one of these. The sender unit acts as a recharger for the mouse too, and after three months use I am yet to replace the KB batteries.

Cheers guys. Guess it's either a 510 or 518 then. Lemme see how much money I can waste now :P

The real problem with the MX1000 is in regards to the laser's response time when coming out of sleep. The laser takes approximately 16ms to re-engage after being picked up/leaving a surfance and being put back down or into motion again.

Some people don't even realise it's happening, some people spot/feel the difference straight away, others aren't exactly sure what's different but claim it does feel "strange" compared to corded mice, not being able to put their finger on the cause.

It's whether you notice this slight pause/delay or not which will decide whether you like the mouse and keep it, or look at getting an MX510/MX518 in its place.

I'll also mention that while it has been stated in technical documentation that the mouse has to be lifted at least 15mm off of the surface for this to happen, I was experiencing the problem at approximately 8mm above the surface, even with rapdid lifts/put downs. Due to my low sensitivity, I found this slight delay ruined my game and made it unplayable.

If you don't lift your mouse while gaming, then you will never experience the problem, and the MX1000 would probably be a good choice.

I own an MX510 but have just ordered an MX518 off of Ebay.

I hated the fact that even if you lifted the mouse up... it could still read the surface. Playing Q3 on woops machine with that mouse was shocking.

Bleh~

I like my MX500.

i just purchased an lx 700 (keyboard and mouse) GOD I LOVE IT!

Post 17

Yeah, the mx 1000 works till about 7mm off the surface, so when you lift it to do a large turn, you kind of stutter. is very annoying....

That's what I've got, it's sweet. No noticable delay, the mouse lasts a couple of days without a recharge and the keyboard batteries lasted 15 months for my friend.
