Just out of curiosity how many people here gamble, and how often?
I play texas hold 'em with mates fairly often (<3 world poker tour) but its always pretty low bets and more for laughs and bragging rights than money. Though some friends I know can easily blow a couple of hundred in a single night at the casino or at the races.
hardly ever, if i go to the casino i use my card thing which has 10 free bucks on it. i use that and thats it.
i went out for a card night not too long ago with eater and phoenix_inferno at neo's place it was fun and i won :) http://www.livejournal.com/users/knightofnih/2005/03/13/
yeh i play hold em with mates aswell, and sometimes 5 card draw. We play different tho. everyone throw in 5-10 bucks and the person with the most chip's by a certain time (say 2am) wins the lot. Once ina while ill play on paradise poker, to get a few tactics going, but thats about it.
I gamble only around 50 bucks at crown, maybe once or twice a year. current earning so far total around 900-1100 bucks. I usually play the big wheel. Ive played carabian (spelling) poker before, and won, but ive only played a hand. Youve gotta put in a 10 buck ante, and you can only beat double your ante. while if you dont have a rank higher than a pair you lose to the casino. so odds are shithouse.
:) i do every 3rd weekend ill go casino have a few play pokies roulette have really good fun and i normally win but we all have our loosin streaks to :)
playing the stock market short term is pointless unless you are a broker - they get better information than just reading the afr. Long-term you cant really lose, just pick a bank or a big retailer.
Even less predictable than short-term stock market trading afaik. Only worth it if you got alot of money to put into it. But yeah high risk = high return.
I use to play the pokies once about a fortnight (only really every time I was at a club or RSL) a few months ago, but realized it could've been an addiction and stopped.
bout once a yearly quarter, was in sydney over the weekend so went to star city. decided to fork out $30, lost 20 on roulette, then won $40 on blackjack, so was $20 up for the night
