ADSL 2+ In Fairway Waters

Post 1

Those of you that Live in Fairway Waters will have access to ADSL 2+ in one week or less.

I am currently working on the DSLAM Project in Fairway waters, It will be a week or possibly less until it has finished, We're installing the cards and setting everything else up.

Just thought I'd let those people know :)

Post 2

But BigPong doesn't offer ADSL2+ yet... so they will only have ADSL access... right.. and only if they are not on a rim... right?

Post 3

They have access to ADSL 2+ so when someone offers it, they can get it. Plus BigPonds shit.

Yeah the RIM thing, yada yada yada no DSL for you.

Internode are Offering ADSL 2+ now anyhow, and It's cheaper then Standard ADSL.

Post 4

Fairway puddles? What about Darwin dammit.

Post 5

After Fairway Im pretty sure.

Post 6

What about Darwin? At least you've had ADSL for all this time - poor bastards in Durack have had nothing.

About frikkin time, I say.

And Phen - thanks for the info.

Post 7

Two cups and a piece of string is about as high tech as communications get for most people in Durack.

But I can't wait for ADSL2+, Mostly because it's cheaper than ADSL and faster is always better

Post 8

I'll ask today whats happening with Durack.

Post 9

umm..isn't Durack and Fairway Waters one and the same?

Post 10

1. Durak and Fairway Waters are the same thing
2. I HIGHLY doubt they would offer ADSL 2 in fairway waters before anywhere else in darwin, particually becuase the cabling is underground. and it makes not sense for the buisness to do it.
3. you could be right, and internode are just stupid :P

Guess Alan is talking shit then huh??

Post 12

hurray i can finally dl faster than 10kbs :D

I can order ADSL2 from internode site in 1 week, correct?

Post 13

you cannot order ADSL2 until Telstra start offering it to it's wholesale customers.. as far as i am aware this hasn't happened yet.

You'll know when this happens as Telstra and it's competitors (Wholesale Customers) will offer something like 3000/256 nationwide.

Post 14

Telstra have said speeds of 3mb and 6mb will be available around November, Australia-Wide

Post 15

Mark, It's happening in Fairway Waters, Its half way done, I'm doing it, I can take photos to proove it. I just finished termination on some of the blocks, the ADSL2+ card is IN right now, Im just terminating it atm. Also there are only 3 cards in there and each card can hold 48 customers = 144 people can use it ATM.

Burk im not completely sure but I think your wrong, as soon as this has been completed people can sign up with Internode and use it, they have access to it, It's open so I dont see how they can't, It's all Telstra's lines anyway, If what your saying is true because It's on the same line, they can't have 1.5mbit or 512kbit then?

I dont care, I'm relaying what I'm told.

Fairway Waters Is IN Durack, Durack as the whole suberb isn't getting ADSL2+ only Fairway Waters side of it is ATM.

Post 16

They can't because Telstra wont allow Internode Wholesale access to one part of their network. They will be waiting until the whole network is ready and at a level to provide Nationwide 3000 or 6000mb plans.

Of course these people can apply for 256, 512 or 1.5mb plans from any ADSL provider but i am very doubtful that they will be able to get ADSL2 from Internode.
(or even 'ADSL2' from Telstra, being 3000 and 6000 plans until they are released nationwide later this year)

Don't take any of this personally Alan, just posting my thoughts on the subject based on information you've relayed and information I have gathered through different means.

Post 18

internode is offering adsl2+ through its own dslams, not through dslams rented through telstra or whatever.

Post 19

Whatever, find out your own way....Im just trying to help but im getting ****ing sick of people not listening.

Where do you think they put there equipment?

What phone lines do you think they use?

Post 20

Umm, we have regular dealings with Node. And I can tell you right now, Agile (The owners of the DSLAMS) are not rolling out to Darwin anytime soon. And I'd hazard a guess that the CBD/Casuarina will be first on the list.

I suggest people pay attention to the following URL:

http://cgi.internode.on.net/cgi-bin/dsl-coverage-table?carrier=Agile

Oh, and to piss you all off, I'm 900m from the Waymouth Exchange, ASDL2+ is nice.

Mmmmm 2.4MB/sec :P

Telstra on the otherhand:

Says that Fairway Waters are being rolled out 23rd July 05.

However no mention of ADSL2, and even if it is, Telstra are not going wholesale for a while...

http://www.telstrawholesale.com/products/docs/access_broadband_proposed.xls?1

Post 21

but you never know...the CEO of Telstra or someone like that might live in Fairway waters...but like i said its highly unlikely. id want to see it on paper first.

we're not saying your wrong, it just hard to believe dude. think about it.

Post 22

It makes no sense that
1) Internode (agile) haven't announced the release of adsl2+ anywhere in Darwin/Palmerston.
2) Fairway Waters would be first on the list to recieve adsl2+ if it were infact being released. Looking at it purly from a Business point of view, think about the difference in the amount of customers that would use the service should it be released on the Darwin or Casurina exchanges, compared with that of Fairway Waters.

It's a case of "I'll believe it when i see it."

Post 24

now looking at that, it looks like what they are doing are enabling the exchanges for adsl in fairway waters, its not DSLAM though. that DSL Layer 2 might be something to do with adsl2, but it still not agile, and as far as i can see telstra arent doing adsl2 yet.

Post 25

Layer2 has nothing to do with ADSL2.

But maybe they are upgrading the exchange at the same time... who knows...

Post 28

ADSL2+ or ADSL2 ?? or ADSL

Post 29

Guys, don't get too excited, apart from the fact there is no mention of ADSL2; Telstra are capping at 3-6Mbits, they have shit plans, charge for uploads...

And arn't going wholesale until 2006 (apparently)...

So, deal with 150k/s :)

Then that is a list of Telstra ADSL(1) DSLAMS ... ie there is about as much chance of an ADSL2+ DSLAM being in there as Gobbles missing an AWP shot on de_dust :P

What are you on about Korny? We're talking about adsl2/adsl2+, not standard adsl1.

Post 45

FFS Im working on the ****ing thing, Its ADSL2+ I have it on paper in the god damn ****ing exchange ****ing listen for once, Im being nice by letting you know whats happening :@

Post 46

I dont get it, a TELSTRA EMPLOYEE says what TELSTRA is doing and that THEY are the ones doing it and it is happening NOW AS WE SPEAK and you still go OMG that's not possible, why would they do that it doesnt make sense. Who cares how much sense it makes or why they are doing it, bottom line is THEY ARE DOING IT!!!!

Post 47

Thank ****, why couldn't I explain it like that....

Post 48

Thanks phen :P i love ya dont listen to the dumb wits. i believe ya :) you da man :)

Post 49

*sigh*

I never said it wasn't happening, I said you WON'T be able to get ADSL2+ from any other carrier apart from Telstra.

It would make sense for Telstra to roll out ADSL2+ DSLAMS as they bring outdated exchanges online.

Add to that the fact that just because its an ADSL2 DSLAM doesn't mean Telstra are going wholesale.

In conclusion, if what Phen is saying is 150% correct, ADSL2+ won't be offered by Telstra for quite some time - and even then, < 8Mbit/s you might as well be on ADSL1.

When they roll 12 -> 24Mbit/s, then Telstra can claim ADSL2+

Oh, and bear in mind, I'm 900M from the Exchange and I avg 18Mbit/s - further you go the slower your speed. Some people in Adelaide report speeds not much greater than ADSL1.

Its simple, didn't some admin here work as a sales guy in the Telstra shop? Get confirmation.

Post 50

Ph3n works for telstra actually INSTALLING the DSLAM's....Im sure he could find out if people didnt jump down his throat every time he releases a bit of info.

Post 51

Agreed :) phen em sexy man

Post 52

Silent, I didnt say you didn't say it was happening :S

Heretic said it wasn't happening and he doesn't beleive it unless its infront of him on paper in black and white.

You can't say "It would make sense for Telstra to..." ITS TELSTRA: |

Cockroache and Raker use to work for Telstra shops, dunno if Raker still does or not.

Whoever doesn't want to listen to me, then shove it up your ****ing ass and stop going on at me, there's no point in arguing if you wont beleive it anyway, ****ing sick of it.

All I do is try and be nice and let you all in on some info and it turns around and bites ME on the arse.

Tell me exactly what you want to know, and i'll ask the head honcho in NT, and after that if you still dont beleive me then suck my dick.

Post 53

Easy little Ph3n, you know we love you :P

Look, I believe you, its perfectly feasable that they have ADSL2+ capable DSLAM up north; in fact it would make perfect business sense when installing into new exchanges.

All I have to say is that whomever was dreaming of Node ADSL2+, keep dreaming. And when Tel$tra do release their speed capped plans, they will, as always suck :)

<signed node fanb0y>

btw/ when Tel$tra make an announcement verifying your facts, post a big thread in bold, telling everyone they suck :)

oh, and congrats on the job, you never told me how the interview went. You bitch!

Post 54

interesting thread.

1.
It's great that you told us - but your post actually said that people in the Fairway Waters area would have access to ADSL2+ within the week. I know that you were trying to do good, but that's wrong... they haven't even begun to offer the plans yet - which is what people were saying.

Just because it's being installed doesn't mean it's ADSL2+ active according to the carrier. It's like a network card without drivers installed - it's there, but it's not being used. (I'm sure there's a better Analogy)

2.
Internode/Agile have said that they will only offer Internode ADSL2+ Services on their DSLAM's and their DSLAM's only (at this present time). Go read Whirlpool.net.au some time - great site minus the bitching.

3.
As was mentioned: Telstra will be offering a maximum of 6mbit/s upon release. Hardly ADSL2+... and afaik, they won't be offering any greater that 6mbit/s on their Wholesale end either. This was a factor for Netspace jumping in on the rolling-out-DSLAM party. So far no provider has publically announced intended use of Telstra wholesale ADSL2/+... but Adam, iiNet, Internode, Netspace and a few others have been rolling out their own equipment to provide a service completely governed by them.

4.
Quote:
Where do you think they put there equipment?

What phone lines do you think they use?

This means what? Because they use the space in a Telstra owned exchange and they use the local copper loop (the phone lines) that they have to go through Telstra DSLAM's to provide their service?

Providers are using Telstra as a means to get their ADSL1 services because, amongst other reasons, the infrastructure was already there and the ability to provide services exceeding that of the artifical Telstra cap of 1.5mbit was too costly/not worth it (considering the size most of these companies were at...). Now they have the ability to roll out their own services so they are doing that - this cuts Telstra out of the loop. Yes, they still rent space in the Exchange... but it's nothing compared to the price of port rental running on Telstra equipment etc.

As I've said before Phen, I think it's fantastic that you're providing us with some good information. However, some of it hasn't been certain - of course we're gonna pick up on that.

Last thing, you're arguing points based on implication... ie, you're working on an ADSL2+ rollout:

Your assumption is that ADSL2+ will be available in the area when you're done. While this would make sense negating all other factors, it's not necessarily true. And I would find it very hard to believe that they would jump forward 6months in the schedule to enable Palmerston (out of everywhere in Australia).

Ok, so some of us are jumping down your neck and not listening to you but you are doing exactly the same to us.

Seqo.
