Hey, i was just wondering, since u guys probably know more about Mother boards than my dad, ive had this problem ever since i stuck a 2.8 Sempron chip in my GA-7N400S board. When i stuck my 2.8 Amd Athlon Barton core in again, it just kept on freezing every 5 minutes within gameplay or during playing some music. Also that when i took it in to get it checked out at Computers for You, they said that they couldn't fault the board (Which i think is complete utter BULLSH*T).
I tested everything like, the RAM, Hard-drive, Video-card, Power-supply and Bios settings. Still had the freezing problems. I see no burnouts anywere on the chips or on the board and it does this still, im not sure if theres jumpers missing because i havent touched the jumpers at all.
I was wondering if anyone, possibly ANYONE would know whats rong with it? Please, PLEASE tell me any info that might be of use?
what are your cpu temps like? did you put a fresh layer of cpu gunk on when you changed it over? have you tried tearing it apart and rebuilding it from scratch?
Ive tried new heatsink gel, CPU temp is at 55. Everything is ok and also when i gave it to a friend to try, it worked somewhat ok without freezing for 2 weeks and then it began to freeze again every 5 minutes or so. Im on msn right now and was planning on asking them but, they completely lack in brain cells. Im gonna goto bed now anyhow but if anyone has any information what so ever, can you please post it here in this thread? Any information will be very helpful.
Are you using SATA or IDE hdds? When it freezes does the HDD light stay hard on and the mouse stops moving? Then after 5 minutes the light goes out and the mouse will move but you can't open anything?
I had a similar problem with my 7N400 pro 2. I replaced everything but the mainboard and the hard disks (SATA), didn't have any IDE to try in it. Took the board to the supplier and after a week or two of testing, they got the motherboard to fail. We suspect it was the onboard SATA controller.
Make sure you have the latest bios and pull the battery to reset your bios to default, Then run at that slow speed see if you have any probs then up your FSB and bios settings to normal for the barton. Also if it has daul bios make sure it's booting off the primary bios not the back up. If I think of anything else I'll let you know.
When its crashed can you hit num lock and the light comes on ? After crashing does it boot straight back up with no problems? Does it crash just as much with the case off?

Well, let me start from scratch. At first, the board was running fine on a 2.8 Athlon BC. Once i stuck a 2.8 sempron in it ran fine 2. As soon as i stuck back in the 2.8 Athlon, it began to freeze, i tried a different Cpu like a 2.4 and it did the same.
When the computer froze, there was no HDD light flashing at all. When ever the mouse stopped functioning the sound went too but i fixxed that problem. The freezing just kept happening.
Im running on the board a IDE Hard-drive at the moment. What happends when it freezes is that the screen stays on, frozen and the HDD Light doesnt blink at all. Im pretty damn sure that the freezing has nothing to do with heat problems because i have a large fan blowing onto the board at all times now and it still happens.
Psu? ok, thanks, ill try that and if nothing seems to work out then, thanks anyhow k. I hope it works, thanks all! 1 more thing, uhh, how do u check the psu and what its runnin on?
Swap it with another one is the best way. You can always get a monitoring program like Motherboard Monitor, but this will only show you voltages while it's working - not when it freezes.
Nevertheless, if you've got low rails to start with, you may pick it up. For the +12V, ideally you don't want to see it any lower than 11.90 V, and for the +5V - not sure of the exact tolerance, but roughly higher than 4.9V.
Maybe it's just dying :p Well.. it does happen :D Failing a new powersupply doesn't work, i'd personally probably be thinking about a new board, lucky for you they are cheap :p
But don't listen to me, try everything you can first :)
I have decided to take the god damn board into computers for you and demand a warranty job because im not gonna give a shit about what they say because ive heard alotta people complain about getting faulty goods from there so in a few days or so a new board should be here.

Hey man If you havent returned the board yet you can try this. Go into the BIOS and then "Load Optimised Defaults". Then restart and go into BIOS again and then turn off everything you dont need on like onboard sound, gameports etc...
