Im gonna upgrade now I saved a little cash :)
Was fully let down buy my computers ability to run newer games at DGA.
Time for some serious speed. :D

Athlon64 3000+ Venice
Abit AN8 Fatal1ty
Powercolor X850XT PE

Will be here next week. Should get some good frames :P

When it gets here will be overclocking everything.
Benchmarks will be posted when I get around to it.
For 3dMark 05 Ill certinly be aiming to break 7k possibly 8k(might need faster CPU).

Post 2

I just got my new parts today :)

MSI K8N SLI Platinum
Athlon64 3500+ Venice
Gecube x800XL

3d mark 05 gave me 4700 or so as a score. Although i didn't put driver setting's to low and haven't overclocked anything, don't really care what score it gives.

Bit damn compared to an 9800 and 2500+ its nearly silent :0

Post 3

(does aaron job) my pc is still better :P

Post 4

Athlon xp 3200 venice
Gigabyte - k8nxp-sli mobo
1 gig kingmax ddr
raided 2 sata 2 200 gig drives
Dual 6600 gt's
FLY MY BITCH :P if i wanted to overclock id buy a faster cpu and video cards :P

Korny you may wanna get you facts in order.

Nowhere have I been able to find any evidence to support any config of 6600GT SLI that would out perform a X850XT PE.

Post 6

Dual 6600GT's are a touch below 6800U and x850XTPE's

Post 7

Ahh, poor fools STILL supporting ATI

Do you know what ATI said when nvidia released the 7800 GTX?
"um.. yeah,... our next gen gfx card has been.. um... delayed... yeah thats it.. but you can still look at our lame attempt at no breaching copyright called CROSSFIRE! cos really we cant think up anything outselves here so we just copy stuff.. oh, and crossfire doesnt actually WORK yet, no, you will have to wait till we fix the bugs and all.. and then we will need to ask game developers to allow crossfire support... which might take awhile..."

laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame.
The entire nvidia 6 and 7 series of gfx cards allow shader model 3.0, which means it is direct x 10 compliant before its even out.
Ati is only 2.0 compliant, so thats direct x 9 max... all ati users will need to upgrade their cards when any unreal 3 engine games come out... and from the looks of things, there is gonna be a BUTTLOAD.

Ahh well, poor ati have been left behind again. Dont worry, im sure ati will release their direct x 10 compatible card as soon as the 8800ultra comes out.
:p

Post 8

and i have a platinum edition 6800ultra, so im faster than ALL of you. :P

Post 9

For all you know I could have two of them in SLI :p

Thank you, Ashtefere01 - you just answered my question of how old you are.

Blatant fanboyism (read - lack of substantial facts) really deserves a thread of its own, not hijacking someone else's thread.

That way, we know which thread to boycott.

Thankyou.

Give the kid a break. It's fun, dammit. If you can't flip out graphics cards and compare them as though they were each fanboy's respective penii, what's left for them? Nothing but depressing hours of WoW, that's what!

WD on the upgrade. I spent this year's upgrade budget on a pair of 19 inch LCDs, a last-one-they'll-ever-make-style Athlon XP 2800+ (the 3000+ was discontinued before I could get one) and a 300Gb harddrive.

Next year I'll look at a new mobo. By then there should be some Ath64 X2 boards and chips within a reasonable price band, plus this year's OMGHAX!!!1! graphics cards should cost about $20 and a stick o' gum.

Post 12

El Pres...I believe Athlon X2's will drop into existing 939 boards with a bios update

Post 13

This is what i believe in, everyone nowadays isnt happy with there computers, so they go and upgrade to a new, even bigger 1! What i say is, your comparing your new big graphics card, mother board and cpu to something ELSE! thats small in your life, and i wonder what that could be? :D
:p :D :p :D

Post 14

I better down grade cause I've got a penil implant .... maybe go for a 486 hmm.

Post 15

Hahahaha!!!!

Dude you're the only one banging on and on about comparing an expensive modern setup to "something else".
Get over yourself and admit you only have a tiny VGA output.
;)
Oh and I buy shiny, new expensive stuff because I can afford to.

Post 17

Hehehe, good comeback :p any how its just to add humour to the post :D
I can afford an alright computer :p

2.8 XP Athlon Barton Core
AN7 Guru
6600 GT
1Gb Dual DDR400
SATA 120 GB Hd

I bought my comp with like, money from Red Rooster... RED ROOSTER GOD DAMMIT!
I cannot afford like, a top notch computer becuz i work there sadly :-( But i like the way my computer handles anyhow so i dont really care :p
:D

Fanboy moron.

I have actually researched this.
There is only 1 card faster than the X850XT PE.

Yes it's the 7800GTX. Buy one then tell me you're faster.

This isn't about me needing to have a faster computer, I'm just stating fact.
The reason I'm upgrading is I want to run new games with killer framerates.
I don't enjoy playing any game with shit framerates. Which is why I haven't been to DGA much this year. I'm upgrading purely for my enjoyment.

What was that John? Your just jealous!
Anyways I will soon have a better computer then david and with both me and Stephen having better computers he will have to sell his soul to update to something to beat us.

Post 21

Aaron fact1. I do not care what your computer specs are :)

If there leet and fast wicked, i can sit there and druel over it :)

But i still have a bigger monitor :P

Post 22

As long as we can all sit down and lan together without any player being disadvantaged by slow framerates I'll be happy.

David may always have a better monitor and Aaron may always have more HDD space. As long as all our computers can keep up with the stuff the game manufactuers are giving us it dosn't matter.

Post 23

*Looks into upgrading monitor now.*
MMMmmm Must beat David.......

Post 24

*face Palm* Bloody Geeks Hahaha..

lol @ david i've got a bigger monitor

:P

well guess what?

I have a bigger slong *unrolls slong*

shut up paladin :P i had a big night on the booze hired out the Spirit of darwin and cruised around the habour getting drunk :D

I believe so too, however I don't have an s939 board at the moment. That's why I upgraded to the last of the Ath XPs.

Post 27

Ah right....I inerpreted how you wrote it slightly wrong :) Damn ur bigger monitor david :p

Yes it was the mad socket swapping by AMD over recent years that made me halt upgrading for the last few years. Then PCI-E came in and held me up even longer. At least now I will have a system that is upgradable. :)

Post 29

my english is good :P

Post 30

:S i just spent money on new mobo cpu ram videocards and 2 X 200 gig sata 2 drives i dunno how much it all cost in the end but i know it was alot LOL.

Post 31

That video card is expensive :( broke now.

Post 32

Well since we're on the topic of upgrading

I have just converted from pentium to amd

AMD athlon 64 3500+
ASUS A8N-SLI deluxe
Corsair Micro 1gig
AOpen Aeolus 6600GT

Its been a long time since upgrades

Now I can play BF2 :)

(thanks Wrath) :D

Post 33

Hehehe....my pc is so out of date, its no longer amusing.
Might have to ditch that 2ghz CPU...and the 512Mb Ram....hrmm....

Post 34

Nice one hawkeye :)

Is a nice system you got but graphics is lacking. :P
I hope you got the XL Corsair ram. Have fun playing BF2.

Post 35

yeah, its just a start, will get something a bit better when prices come down a bit :)

Post 36

Hawky! same system :P

It'll run well.. although no idea about Aopen grpahic cards, have fun :D

Post 37

Upgrading is a fun experience, except for the hard work and stuff, my friend finished upgrading his computer a while ago only to drop it down the stairs while getting ready for the last Lan.

Post 38

6600GT's are much of a muchness...except for the OC/etc editions....ike the 9800 series...go for the cheapest/one with the best software pack.

I use a harness.
That's gotta suck; dropping your PC.
Did he have much damage or just scratches and bruised ego?

Post 42

I now have the CPU :) A64 3000+ LBBLE 0523 APBW
Also have mobo + HSF + Enermax 600W PSU

Just waiting on Graphics card :(

I was going to buy 2 7800gtx cards week for Sli then i read last night on the net they will bring out the Ultra version in the next couple of months they are holding back of course for the Ati cards of course ya cant win the battle it will rage on and on oh well i have always like nvidia cards and yes iam biast on this subject on video card wars hmm the power and heat and noise consumption are very good with
the 7800gtx and they are in darwin at Infinity Leading Edge Computers at Jape Homwmaker Village they have the
XFX version there not a bad brand but i would get the BFG
cards Lifetime warranty

Post 46

The 7800gtx marginally outperforms the X850XT PE which is a 16 pipeline card. Slow chips. Maybe the 7800 Ultra will change things. By then ATI will have the R520 out :)

Post 48

mmmm ati ... creams himself....... i dunno ay im running an x800xt PE with 1.5 gig of ram an amd3000+ and a shitty soltek motherboard and for all your talk about nvidia and ati and ati being shit i still get kickass benchmarks and i can run everything in 1600 x 1200 full everything so i dont see what ur problem is............ GO ATI!!!!!

Post 49

My Graphics card got here today. (Tuesday)

It is all running sweet

Did a quick 3DMark 05 - 5900marks stock

Post 50

not far off me prokop i was getting 6000 :) extra ram and good cpu helps hey :)

Post 51

My cpu runs 1800mhz stock.

2000mhz benchies.

Sorry I wasn't going to pay $70 for a 10x multi.

Post 52

Max res AA + AF

Post 53

Got any temps on that CPU? :)

Post 54

ill have to turn my video card to sli again an try :S.. lol the damn thing heats up like a mofo when you have it running for to long

1 of the bloody cores sits on 69 and thats in the green temperture stage hits 80 at full load for 3 hours LOL..

Post 55

LOL @ voltage and lol @ temp

You will notice the temperture is at 29 degrees the way i did it is im using aircon piping from my aircon straight into the side ducts of my pc :). i have had it to 21 without overclocking :)

Here you go Korny. :) Mine is at over 50 Degrees :P
Using a quiet 3000rpm fan.

RAM cannot do HTT speeds of 300+ 1:1 :p

WIll try sync overclock soon. RAM should be able to do 275HTT 1:1.

Post 61

And this is the reason why I stopped overclocking. Most who know me know how much I was into overclocking (case fans galore, etc...).

I've had my current setup since November last year - all stock speeds, all stock fans (gasp!), and I still score 6050 in 3dMark05.

Oh, specs? Socket 754 AMD64 3000 (runs at 2G), 1G PC3500 RAM (2x512 sticks), ATI X800 XT PE.

I've finally turned to the light side ;-)

Post 62

i dont do it period but its always nice to see how your cpu ram and board handles stress :) lol.

Awww, but the dark side was so much fun Xaine :P

I gave up Overclocking back in the AMD Thunderbird days... much better things to spend my money on.

Post 64

I overclock when I get bored...gotta sort out a BIOS prob with my current board though. Everytime I try and manually set my FSB vale instead of using one of the presets, or I change core voltages or ram voltages or whatever....my RAM gets hit with a 0.5 multiplier....so my DDR400 ends up running at DDR200, and I can't for the life of me figure out why :-/

Post 65

Man the new Venice core A64's run so cool at stock they are just asking for a minimalistic overclock so that they run at normal temperatures for a CPU...

More Voltage = more smoke :p

Not going off topic in DGA.

You are a Noob mate.
How can more voltage poduce smoke you idiot?
More voltage may increase heat but it will increase stability. Ever heard of a heatsink? errrrrr go play with you 8 (HAHAHHAHA) pipeline card

Post 67

Wortel - remember the GF3 that I volt-modded? I had extra heatsinkage on it, but it eventually went up in smoke - literally.

Do you know why most components have an upper-voltage limit?

Cos in layman's terms - any more and it will let the smoke out - no matter how big your heatsink is.

A simple analogy is try and stuff 10kgs of shit into a bag that's rated at 5kgs of shit, and see what you end up with.

To be fair, yes, upping the voltage is a valid way of getting more headroom in overclocking, but your reply to Metal was a bit over the top...how about letting him know that WITHIN REASON you can safely increase the voltage to get more stability...

Post 68

Smackdown

Beat this score Korny :D

[Image: http://members.westnet.com.au/wortel/x850xtpeoc1.jpg]

Post 69

OK point made by Xaine. Voltage can cause smoke. Sorry Metal attack. Dis' my Overclocks and watch out. :p
The mod I was thinking about involves bridging the gap of resistor R1856 to give 1.60V.

Even then it would be a removable. I would only do it when I reach my max with cooling @ stock voltage which I still haven't got anywhere near cuz of gay pink goo and my inability to get the damn heatsink off. Sticking screwdrivers in my $800 vid card feels kinda funny though.

Post 70

Linkage.

Post 71

Thats ok Wortel i have heard of people upping the voltage too much for things and bam.. Smoke :) ..
So What admin deleted my post it was a valid point as Xaine said..

Post 72

lol - your post is in another thread. Wortel just quoted it to use in this thread.

Wortel - nice work on the overclocks. I'll have to bug you next LAN just like you used to...um....encourage, yeah that's it - encourage you to go faster ;-)

Post 73

default with 3200 64, new 3700+ 64 SD isnt in yet.

Post 74

full slacker Dave :p put the cpu in.

Nice score man hopefully you 7800GTX isn't cooking and you can overclock it a little ;)

Post 75

wortel if you keep going your pc is gonna be fried :P

Post 76

Well after not touching an AMD for 10 or so years, I decided to try an AMD rig after I scored a cheap FX-53 CPU via Ebay. I got the other parts new.

AMD FX-53 @ 2600Mhz
LanParty UT nF4 Ultra-D
1Gb OCZ RAM
XFX 7800GTX @ 490/1300 (Stock 450/1250)
2 x 80GB SATA RAID0 Array

3Dmark05 = 8689

CPU Temp idles around 45-50 degrees Celcius
Chipset Temp idles around 48-53 degrees Celcius
7800GTX idles around 52 degrees Celcius in 2D apps.
But when gaming it goes up ... 62 to 78 degrees Celcius in 3D apps !
Call of Duty around 65...
Battlefield 2 around 77-78 !!...

Very impressed with this system, definately faster than my my old P4 3.0 @ 3.5Ghz and hasn't missed a beat....

Post 77

I have just started looking into upgrading myself, I have noticed many are using AMD... I have always used Pentium but I am considering the switch to AMD...

I use my computer for: Gaming, Web/Graphic Designing and anything else I want to do...

Would it be wise to stay with pentium? or switch to AMD?

Post 78

In response to you question Ivoman.

Don't bother with Intel right now their chips run hotter and they get killed in performance by much lower clocked Athlon64s.

Intel hit the wall with the P4 @ 3.8Ghz.

I've seen the benchmarks Vapochilled P4 3.73EE does kinda get close to the Athlons.

With Intel you can use DDR2 ram not worth nay performance boost yet due to high latency RAM. AMD will be coming to DDR2 soon.

I wouldn't rule out Intel all together but you will spend more for no real performance.

Happy shopping. :D

Post 79

if you going to play games you need a A64
