Lenko's winter observations !!

My observations about Winter thus far, after living in broken hill for 3 weeks. Keep in mind I was born and raised in Darwin, and this is the first extended time I have spent in winter temps :p

- Scraping ice off your windscreen, first thing in the morning, in 1degree cold, is far from fun.

- Cold toilet seats have an amazing ability to turn Plums into Grapes, and Banana's into Chilli's.

- When used as slippers, foot socks get holes in them very fast.

- Ugg boots ARE your friend.

- No matter how much I beg, my electric blanket will not say yes when i ask it to marry me.

- When only one side of your queen sized bed is heated, you dont move much during the night.

- Heaters can and do replace dogs, as mans best friends. Dogs however, do not burn the hairs off your legs when you sit too close to them.

- Breathing steam, whilest fun, loses its novelty once you lose feeling to your extremeties.

- 0degree temperatures do not get in the way of me playing WoW.

- Its extremely difficult to type the most basic of emotes on a keyboard, when you have no feeling in your fingers. Ie, 'lol'.

- You find heat-sources from things you never even considered. Such as a cigerette lighter, or a PC exhaust fan.

- Putting your clothes in the dryer, while having a shower, makes putting them on MUCH more satisfying.

- I finally discovered what the 'red' section of my thermastate controls in my car, was for.

- No matter how hot Darwin is, you will still at one point during winter, wish to god you were back in the heat.

- Cold weather amplifies pain.

- You wish there was a hot woman in your bed, not for fun, but for warmth.

- Fat is an excellent insulator and I am now not entirely sure i want to diet.

- Yes i look dorky. But the three layers of clothes, ill-fitting jeans, ugg boots and beanie, will remain on until i deem fit to remove.

- People get sick of you saying 'dude its so ****ing cold here!', after about, then 5th time.

Thats it so far, i may append more as my winter experience endures.
Feel free to add your own :p

Post 10

I've been in Perth just over six weks now and I go out of my way to get a drive-through coffee from Macca's every morning...the coffee doesn't taste too bad but man is the warmth worth the price!
Oh and three layers of clothing FTW!

One thing to add...when lying in bed and your missus rolls over and drags the blankets off you, you tend to wake up in a nano-second..it's like having a bucket of ice water thrown over your ass.

min 7 max 20 (doesn't feel like 20 but)

Yes.. this is almost right next to the ocean.. with snow..
[Image: http://www.users.on.net/~mcranage/Snow/Web/IMG_0052.jpg]
Driving to work.. only to find out road is closed off into Hobart, schools are shut and public transport is not operating as of yet.

That's my day, it's still snowing a little, just very lightly.. :D

Post 42

nice house jono, and beautiful snow.

it's only snowed here twice in canberra that i can remember of (17 years that ive been here), and it's never snowed that heavily....haven't been to the snow yet this season, so i was all excited yesterday when it started pummeling down

and on a non relavant note, how's this for a name http://www.albany.edu/faculty/sywang/

Post 43

Nice place jono, cani come stay when it isnt so cold? :)

Cow, that is by far the funniest thing ive seen this week, gold :D

Post 44

OMG nice place jono
do you have a sled? if so im coming for a sleep over :)

Post 45

Its like that in the outlying areas around here as well.

Post 46

I miss Tasmania! Was down there on holiday in March, the closest we got to snow was on top Ben Lommand, that more slush then snow...

Next DGA will be held at Jono's! :)

Post 47

Nah no sled.. next door was though, you could see them flying down the hill :p
Yeah it's a very nice place, just a bit too far from civilization for my own liking, it's only about 8km from the nearest town, which is another 10km from Hobart. Only takes like 20min to get into middle of Hobart. Only problem with place is.. no adsl.. :(

Post 48

invest in a sled then if you have no dsl, i know i would
or when ya go to maccas next grab a few of them trays they give you your order on, they make good sleds if you have a small enough butt :)

Post 49

Milenko by the 2 week of winter i went out and bought an heated toilet seat :$ lol..

and i swear gas heaters are the best thing in the world.

Post 50

Looks like a cold place.. i havent seen or touched real snow yet :( on my list of things to do..

Post 51

It was my first time to touch snow last August, down in Thredbo, NSW.

It is a great experience to muck around in the snow and to see it, and the reaction from the locals when you say your from Darwin is even better! hehehe :)

Post 52

had the same expirence in july, went to jundalop (spelling) and stoped at maccas cause there was snow on cars there, we grabbed it off and threw it at each other. snow is tops

watched a short movie of pala's snow trip they are fully diving in it, its halarious.

Post 53

pro tip #1) do not dive into a snowbank without waterproof clothes.

Post 54

yes the funniest thing was, it looked like you guys were wearing trackpants
HAHAHA

Post 55

Jono what town are you living in? I've spent heaps of holidays in Tassie. Started out on the Overland track a few years back on Boxing Day in the middle of a blizzard :O

Post 57

i am in brisbane

Post 58

I'm just outside Kingston in an area called Tinderbox. About 20min south from Hobart.

Yes probably a fair bit colder than Brisbane in winter. Hobart is about 15 degrees during the day now, its nice and sunny too :D. When I took those photos it was just 1, overnight it was below 0.

How's this for where abouts? :p
