DS is going to own PSP :)
But the PSP can play original nintendo games thanks to homebrew!
The novelty man, think of the novelty!
It is true that the PSP doesn't have any near the quality of games released for it when compared to the DS. Can only hope that will change.
I'm just sitting here hoping something awesome will get made for the PSP.
As Tycho kinda said, they're pretty much relying on the hardware right now.
It's taken the DS a year to get quality games out :/
PSP. End of story.
If you've got the best hardware with firmware builds that'll let you run all kinds of neat and illegal applications; the awesome software and games will follow.
Do you remember when the Xbox came out? What a laugh - hilarious even. The reality is that it boasted great specs, and now look at it. More importantly, look at the support it has generated for Microsoft's next gen system. Crazy.
Who gives a crap, buy whatever one you like the most or both..
People compare way too much these days..
i got both and i reckon the DS is a better gaming machine...
but with wat the PSP can do its gonna beat the DS.
Although you can buy cartridges that give the ds all the functionality of the PSP (movies, music, roms, etc)
DS for the games atm. <3 nintendo. PSP for the media capabilities/illegal activies.
I actualy have both the psp and DS. Overall the DS is a nice impressive machine, if you like looking at it head on direct above the screen. The DS can only been correctly viewed from one direction or you get a very washed out screen appearance.
On the other hand the PSP has a lovely viewing angle, you can actualy play the thing and tilt it any direction and still maintain a lovely picture clarity. Games wise, programing, and entertainment I do think the DS games currently are a step ahead in regards to gameplay than the psp, but that will soon be removed with more 3rd party products being developed for the psp.
The huge advantage to the psp is the ability to program or load programs from the net that are writen to get the fullest out of the system. I have the 1gig memory chip that cost me more than i like to say. I currently have 200 Sega, Game Boy Advanaced, Nintendo Color, Sega Master system, and more than i care to remember. I doubt when the psp gets ahold in some community groups is going to be a MAJOR hand held system for DS to remove.
PSP battery
Low intensity gaming will get you about 5 hrs
Full intensity will get you about 4 hrs
Wi-fi Mulplayer wont even last you 3 hrs
Just playing mp3s you can get 10 hrs
DS Battery will last around 10 hours depending on which game.
The PSP needs to spin the UMD which takes most of its power.
Those mp3 stats are Memory stick playback. Get the point?
Spinning disc = PSP not worth it
Easy buy 1 gig memory card for it. Copy the UMD onto your computer system by using a Homebrew UMD reader :) yes they are avaliable. Copy your game back onto your 1 gig card, 250 megs each game after removing bull ****, then play to your hearts content.

To do this though you need to downgrade your firmware (which voids warranty) and then risk bricking your PSP by running homebrew on it. So while the novelty is nice, is it worth it?

Nintendo Ds, Touching Is Good.
I prefere PSP
Quote from Psycho Penguin:

Well this is how i looked at it.
Pros
Develop applications in C and C++
Run my programs wifi system
Play Emulators games
Save money on redudent games (Sonic)
Enjoy lots of games i would never had the chance to play
Save money on expensive PSP games
Backup my games
Cons
Lose $400 on a psp purchase, sell my Memory card if its faulty
So in conclusion, i will end up with an paper weight or have a complex flexiable mobile gaming system the world has never seen. Or i will have a $400 paper weight i can throw at the dogs.
To reduce the risk of mistake i followed the guys advice how to hack it.
Homebrew isn't a huge risk if you do your research. Just make sure you get the most reliable guide on it you can get and follow it word for word. Works for me.
But even if it did brick it, you'd still have the sexiest brick ever.
Well finaly after 2 nights of messing around with the crazy cygwin i finaly have my C++ development enviroment setup and running. Programed my own little game tonight with some simple 2d effects on the screen. Going to see how far i can push this little guy :)
I have a DS, which I love... but would love a PSP too.. if I could afford one. :)
I really like the idea of touchscreen games.. not that there're many good ones out here yet.
Anyway, there's quite a bit of homebrew around for the DS too. It's more of a hassle than on the PSP so far, cos you have to flash the DS's firmware (using 1 of a few methods..including wirelessly, if you have a wifi card with the right chipset).. and the DS isn't as powerful as PSP.. but still! ScummVM on DS! :D touchscreen controlled shooters! (something like Gridrunner++ would rock..).
(btw I haven't actually flashed my DS yet.. just going on what people i know talk about)
so, does anyone who has a DS have any of the newer games? newest one i have is Yoshi Touch & Go, which is good in short bursts, but,,yeh. must...get...kirby... and that surgery game when it comes out.. and mariokart.. nanostray.. animal crossing...and super princess peach!.. and..and..and... :P

If you dont have this game on your handheld theres no point arguing.
what crap game is that?

Brilliant Insight from someone who hasnt played it!
*audiance applauses*
In fact its just mere fact, there hasnt being a good game at PSP since launch.....But but the homebrew! Yes spend 400 dollars for tic tac toe or old nintendo games than games that take advantage of the system.
But but but the MP3 and pirate vids!
[Image: http://image4.play-asia.com/350/PA.43332.002.jpg]
Works for DS, GBA and the new GBmicro.
So at least 200 less you can have a handheld that does PSP does.......and in fact have a better library of games....
Sorry sony but maybe next time....if there is...
Quote:

Is that so, interesting, do you own a PSP and played any of it's games? There a a selected few games on the PSP that are simple awesome, not just said by me, but gaming sites everywhere - example, Burnout Legends. I agree that the majority of games arn't anything special but give the PSP some time. Look at the new launch of GTA: LC, this game has made a ****ing huge boom in the industry - everyone wants a piece of it.
So yea, give 6 months and I would dare say the library of games for the PSP will be on par if not better than the DS. Japan already has a heap of sick-ass games , and the beauty of the PSP, it can play any regioned games in the world, so imports are a snap.
The screen on the PSP is far superior to that of the DS so the pricier tag doesn't bother me to much. And the fact that homebrew exists for PSP makes it even better. PSP owners will soon be able to play DS games as have already managed to emulate a vast majority of other gaming consoles.
Well done Sony, I'm impressed. Next time you may ask, just wait for the PS3 and all it's glory.
Nickaroo just shows how little you know about the power of the psp compaired to the DS.
For example, yesterday i went into town with my psp made a homebrew application to scan all wifi sections within town and on the bus finding insecure networks. You will be amazed at what you can find out there with a psp and just a homebrew application. I got all the mac addresses of all the wireless device saved on a file onto the memory card.
Next im running physic model on the psp to test it floating point calcaulation stack and also in the back ground now play mp3s. The true power of the psp has yet to be unleashed. Yes there is a small amount of games currently avaliable for the psp, but wait acouple of months and when developers get the sony PSP development package and start pushing this baby to its limits its going to fly.
Quote:

I have three friends who own them, since launch they ran around in circles and kept pointing out in hyper how amazing it will be.....
Now there wondering when the hell some exclusive and well not a toned down port is going to make there way.......too bad they dont import because ghouls and ghost and megaman remake look good.
In fact theres not many other great games in japan thats good for psp.......since its quite ovouis at Tokyo game show, more developers are working on the DS.....Square enix has already made 5 games for DS ......(while psp will get one......late.......2006)
Quote:
example, Burnout Legends
Hmmmmmmm play it on the xbox or a handheld that cost me 400 dollars with a battery life that doesnt last long on high settings.......woah slow down the people knocking down other people for this.
Quote:

Yet theres a difference this time.......its on the psp...... and there are not as many psp owners as ds oweners or PS2 owners......as well gta is on the dowhill slump.....after GTA 3, vice city sold less and san andres sold even more less...... As well clearly after reviews critics are very skepical....since theres long load times, crappy controls and the battery is practically eaten.
Hmmmmmm play san andres.......hmmmm. For the price of the psp you could do that.

Give them 6 months? I'm sorry but you gotta stop kidding yourself, after E3 and tokyo game show psp had some of the most pathetic showing of a handheld yet......while DS got more game announcemnets and previews.......next month mario kart and animal crossing online will be released and starting through 2006 all its all DS and more online games.
As well most of DS games sold are imported games too, Oendan, Jump superstars, Phoenix wright, most naruto games.

Question how are you going to play DS games on a system that doesnt have a touch screen, in built mike? Quit kidding yourself. As well the new gba screen is just as bright as the psps.......as well it has a longer battery life ;)
As well homebrew exists for the DS already too....hell that play yang mp3 player also transfers homebrew games between DS, I'll say it once again why buy a psp too emulate old games.......you already have a pc...as well no homebrew or emulation on psp 2.0 version.......want to play new gta well you have to switch to 2.0 in fact sony are making all there new games 2.0 format.....sounds like a lot of effort keep downgrading then upgrading.
Hell its sad when sony first came out saying how they were gonna run over nintendo in handhelds.....when they cant even outsell a third product on the market....let alone catch up too the millions of gba owners......so now there claiming ""oh were trying to settle our own market"" what ****ing ever.

Actually right now you can download free game demos for the DS over the internet.....and when the offical Wi fi connection is up in november you can do everything that the psp can do and theres already homebrews available.........except they'll be games worth playing online on the ds.

Yeah but problem is .......the DS is easier to work for and theres more chance for them to make money on it......Square enix....a loyal third party to sony has already made more games for the ds than the psp. Rare who nintendo sold to microsft are making games for the DS.......even team ninja of DOA fame are woking on the DS.
You can have all the pretty colours and graphics you want.....but you dont sell as much as the competetion and make it harder for them to work on they'll simple do what they have being doing now.........just port games or simply drop development.
DOnt leave your fingers crossed...hell dont be surprised if sony remove the ability to play games and just try to compete against apple for an mp3 player.
I have a Nintendo DS, its nothign special.
Clumbsy controls and a tiny viewscreen. Meh.
Anyone with adult sized hands will find it extremely uncomfortable.
Nickaroo all your comments are bold and have no backing.
WIfi: yes yes in novemeber, we have it now without any **** around
And more or less Nickaroo i think your trying to prove the DS can do what the psp can do but better. Only problem is that the psp does everthing and more than the DS without requireing the extra purchase of hardware because it allready has everthing in built.
DS is an okay game system dont get me wrong, i have both. But you got to understand that the psp has alot more flexability from out of the box than any other hand held on the market. Crap i've seen 5 psp sold from eb games on the notion of being able to play sega games and game boy games on the psp because people want flexability in their hardware.
But mostly this is about compairing Apples to PC computer systems. I dont really give a crap, but it makes a good converstation.
Quick edit
In regards to the touch screen and the mike. How the **** are you suppost to use it on a bus when your surrounded by 4 people all talking at the same time. Especialy in japan if your using it as free time killer, the mic feature and touch screen i've heard just is a pain in the ass.
Personally when I buy a hand held I don't purchase it for all those crazy features, I purchase it for gameplay. And PSP's games are'nt anything special. DS has the most innovative gameplay around.
I just purchased Trauma Surgery, Castlevania and Advance Wars Dual Strike. Advance Wars is an incredible game, so addictive and the touch screen gives it an edge over button control plus mutliplayer its heaps of fun :)
I can't wait for so many of the games coming out this christmas season Zoo Tycoon!!
See I'll always be a nintendo fan :D
PSP battery life sucks btw :)

FFV and FFVI for the GBA Announced
"Square Enix has announced that they will be bringing Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI to the Game Boy Advance in 2006. The GBA versions of these titles will be improved, just like the conversion of Final Fantasy IV, announced earlier this year. Square Enix President Youichi Wada also addressed the development of Final Fantasy III for the Nintendo DS. Instead of being a simple clean-up of the original's Famicom-style graphics, Square Enix are making the characters and environments fully 3D. Hiromichi Tanaka, producer of the title, says that to keep the vibe of the original title intact, developers from the original title have been brought onboard for the remake."

Resident Evil DS remake
Resident Evil: Deadly Silence will be landing on American shores during the first quarter of 2006!
A remake of the original Resident Evil, Deadly Silence features both Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine as playable characters, along with the familiar mansion filled with zombies and terrifying monsters.
The top screen shows the map while the touch screen allows you to slash at enemies with a knife and shake off enemies who've grabbed hold of you. The biggest addition however is the multiplayer - which we can now confirm contains a Vs. mode for up to four players, as well as a cooperative mode where players can work together to get out of the mansion.
A first quarter release date in America means a European release shouldn't be too far off. We'll keep you posted.

Konami will continue the Castlevania series on the DS. Were there any doubters?
Tenchu DS
From Software, Action, Working Title, 2006
Xbox 360 isn't the only new platform getting From's Tenchu stealth series. Based on the screenshot we've seen, Tenchu DS features 3D visuals and an overhead perspective. Most of the action seems to take place on the top screen.

No actually I'm stated you can get a handheld with a better game line up and can do what the psp can for one third the price.

Oh true its quite flexable however there are products out on the market that can do that for a cheaper price. In fact a portable dvd player, that can play games and read off memory and usb cards was cheaper than the psp witha much larger 7 inch screen....
You want a psp for multimedia purposes get one of those......you want a psp for games ......welll you just wasted money...

THis game calls you a liar!
Wait why you would say I have heard when you said you already own one *gasp* did you just lie?
Just stateing the facts. You seem determind to point out all the flaws with the psp but you keep coming back to the same basic thought proccess.
Price.
Game line up.
Battery Life.
I did not lie about the psp nor did i do the same about the DS. They're both good systems to have, one is cheaper than the psp and has been out on the market for about 6 months longer than the psp. But I have no idea what the originaly release date of the DS was and i dont really care.
Just to sume up everthing, the psp has everthing in ONE package. Simple as that, if i wanted to watch dvd i would buy a portable dvd player, if i wanted to play games i would buy a game system. But i dont want to carry around 3-4 devices just to watch and listen and manipulate my data. Thats why the main reason why i purchased the psp even with its high price tag was because i want to have all those in one system.

Completly missed my comments? I went in to dick smiths and saw a portable dvd player that could play games, read off memory cards, mp3 and even connect to USB port........and it was 200 dollars cheaper than the PSP.
I love this always happens when asked why isnt there much good games coming or out now its ""But but but the multimedia features"" Sony made the PSP as a handheld gaming device to compete and attempt to take over nintendo in the hand held market. Sony bragged how there was no competetion becasue they would have the best looking games on there system.........who gives most hype to psp? Gaming media.
Do you remeber you bought a handheld gaming device?
Its a gaming handheld that fails to deliver its real purpose. Damn good games and thats why the DS is outselling it. Now surprise surprise suddenly sony start saying ""Oh we didnt want to compete were just trying to settle a new market....."" whatever, they knew mac has an iron fist over mp3 players so they tried to pass it off in handheld gaming.
Its like people trying too justifie why they bought a ps2 at launch when it was crappy at first ""but but but the dvd player...."" Extra shit doesnt make it better than another machine when your meant to compete over videogames.
Quote:

So blame sony for it being late, psp and ds came out a months difference in japan and each had plenty of development time, they came out a months difference too in america. Sony had no excuse for being late in europe and oz, they screwed up and there paying for it.
Actualy you find that the psp had more opening sales in europe than the nitendo DS. Mostly all of your statements are over generalisation. The mutlimedi function and the game functionality and the games are there and being developed for the psp. Although i dont want a dvd player i want a gaming system that i can play and listen to music with, the DS did not provide this possability.
I will repeat again, you dont like the psp because you enjoy DS games more than the psp. Thats tottaly acceptable, but there are games on the psp the DS will never have, because of its limitations compaired to the psp.
Yet again i stree the point, i wanted a multimedia functionality and gaming functionality in one signe device with the flexability of developming my own games on it to use as a mobile device. No other device had the standereds or the hardware that i was looking for.

interesting :)
November 17th. Mario Kart DS. 8 players via wireless LAN. 4 players online via WiFi internet. 16 classic tracks. 16 new tracks. 'Nuff said. :)
Plus Animal Crossing in December (with WiFi support) and Metroid Prime Hunters next year (also with WiFi support). Touch-screen FPS FTW!
Now to get myself a wireless router...
ooooooh psp can play games and music and movies... who gives a toss? the whole point of dvds are cinematic experience and you dont get that on a portable device if i want music ipod. if i want games ds im not gonna pay more for a device that does each of those things but poorer then the specialty devices. its just another case of ngage style stupidity just cause people play games and use mobile phones doesnt mean putting them in the one device is a good idea!

Nickaroo has it every *grasp* appeal to you that i dont enjoy Duel screen games and children games on the DS. Im enjoy the games that are currently on the psp, so even though you make out it has failed in the game deparement, it hasnt't is just appealing to a different consumer basis.
One last mention.
"But why isnt as good as DS.......oh thats right most psp games are just ports of there console counterparts...or crappy spinoffs (metal gear card game anyone?) While the DS is actually get NEW games from companys"
Talk about console ports, just how many of the **old** games are being remade for the DS anyway. You posted a large amount of games i remember playing as a kid, and you call that nintendo will be "remaking them" dont you think you have just contradicted yourself?
Peace and love folks, peace and love. :p
There's no way you two are going to convince each other, I think it's about time you kissed and made up.
I don't think any more arguments are really being brought to the table at this point.
I have a nasty suspicion that Nickaroo works for Nintendo. :D
not trying to convince Nickaroo, im pointing out his making some wild statements about the psp and nintendo systems. I do agree that you have a bigger selection of games out on the DS, they dont appeal to me but. I want more than just a game system, more functionality and im part of the consumers market that are purchaseing the psp for that exact same reason.
