Actually made an effort and went down to EB in Hobart tonight to see what it was like. There must have been hmm maybe 60 people there with orders, probably 100 odd all up. Wasn't too bad, bit of a wait, bit of a chat.

Have to say though some people take games way too far, some dude dressed as Zelda just doesn't work :\ although his wig looked pretty damn real haha.

Anyway ima have some fun now, been a while since i've had my own console. Just thought i'd share and hope you all get yours soon, these things are fckn awesome :D

Goddamn these things are fun. Going to buy one :)

Post 8

ill be picking mine up on Friday :) This has to be the first console I have ever bought on launch...

crazy.

Post 9

Just got mine, left work to go pick it up.
When I got back the boss insisted I hook it up to the 60 inch plasma out the back and give him a turn.
I love my job, and my new Wii.

Oh and this is the first consaole I have EVER bought.

Post 10

Hahaha good stuff, i thought this was gonna be a winner :)

Wow that must have looked shocking on such a huge tv lol.
Bloody nintendo not supplying component cables till a week after launch.

Knight: Its cheap coz the hardware isnt much more than just an overclocked gamecube, it should be even cheaper.

Post 13

Post some details up on the games you got, Would like to here what people's thoughts are on them.

Post 14

HAHAHA, ill just play your wii's suckers. You guys buy all the games, and try not to get bored of it within 6 months.

Zelda is v.cool :D

Actually looks OK just seems a bit washed out and has bright whites. Resolution is fine. Sharpness is good (once maxed out in TV menu).
Only complaint is that it seems waaay to bright or not enough contrast or something, the plasma has no contrast control :(

Post 17

yeah nintendos never really were about breathtaking graphics and effects, they were more about gameplay. which to me is far more important.

Supposedly that is fixed with the component cables.

Post 20

I've got it running on my 24" LCD via composite and you can see it's not the greatest quality, but I kinda expected that considering it's being scaled to fit the screen, would look nicer on a TV. However i'm waiting for the component cables and hopefully that'll make the image a bit sharper :D

warning playstation fanboi in the house.

Post 22

Why playstation, how do you know Im not an xbox fanboi? :P

But seriously, I know it came of as fanboyish but I wasnt try to put it down or anything, just stating the facts incase people think its some big bargin.

Post 23

mine looks beautiful on my 42" plama :)

zelda wins.

Post 24

Gameplay is everything - graphics are secondary. That is all.

Post 25

Component cables DO fix the display issues from the screenies ive seen.

It IS cheap, its a brand new concept in gaming never been done before AND it costs waaaay less than the PS3 (not too mention it is actualy buyable) and much less than the 360 upon release. It has better and more games than either competing console did on release. The gameplay far exceeds any other console out there and the graphics are OK. If I want pretty pictures I boot up the PC its better than any console.

Consoles are about mates having a laugh a few beers, just having fun and that is what the Wii delivers much more so than any other console available.

Post 26

Amen.
I will sacrifice a bit of graphics for awesome gameplay anyday :)

Post 27

at work 3 ppl have laready ducked out today and bought wii's
the wii is going to sell like hotcakes, because it it different and cheap
even ppl who dont like consoles are getting them

NO, try like double the power - and double the fun :D

- The GameCube has a single-threaded PowerPC processor running at 485 MHZ.
The Wii's processor, runs at 729MHz

- The GameCube has 24 MB of RAM. The Wii has 88 MB of RAM.

- The graphics card in the GameCube runs at 162 MHZ.
In the Wii it runs at 243 MHZ.

- The GameCube is able to paint about 20 million polygons per second.
The Wii creates many more per second and they are realistically shaded.

- The Wii also uses completely redesigned wireless game controllers.

- A dual-format optical tray

- An SD memory card slot

- The ability to connect to the Internet (even when the power is off)

- 512 MB built-in flash memory.

- Bluetooth

- usb 2.0

- full backwards compatability with gamecube

- 802.11g built in

- Emulated games for many different consoles

not bad for 388 bucks retail if u ask me

are you a microsoft fanboi? I dont think I've heard Xbox owners use such anti nintendo terms.

Usually its the playstation fanbois who are obsessed with hardware. Prove me wrong if you want... ill be all like "warning microsoft fanboi in the house :P"

Coco: I've been saying that for years... i reckon we could dig up some old Sony vs nintendo threads and there would be posts from me saying its about gameplay not graphics.

Post 31

I know you have Spero, you are the no 1 Wii , Haha I told you so person :)
You have been onto this before all of us

Not to mention that the accessories are REASONABLY PRICED.
They've also catered to the retro-gamers with their online content.

Nintendo have really thought their approach to the console market through (not like they've failed to in the past) and are going to reap the rewards :)

P.S I hear some jb-hifi's have the component cable in.

got a pretty sweet deal though, 2 controllers, 2 nunchucks, wii, zelda, and some other game for $400 from toys r us cause they kept screwing it up.

Post 48

damn!

Cheapest prices in darwin for Wii play, & console?

I'm thinking of going to EB but since I don't work there anymore....

Post 49

JB HiFi was the cheapest i found for the console $378 includes carry bag. They tried to tell me that carry bag was for preorders only but the ad doesn't mention anything about preorders. So I got one or more correctly I got on the list for when they arrive.

Post 50

woot component.

and Wii sports is so ****ing much fun. Boxing, bowling and baseball ftw

Post 51

no cricket :(

Post 53

hahaha mates who have been playing the wii for the last few days have said there arm hurts

Post 54

wii tennis elbow

Post 55

lol I have to say it's amazing how immersed you can get with these things. You only have to move the controller ever so slightly to make it work but at the same time you can do a full tennis swing (for example) with it and it'll do the same thing. Really quite amazing how well the remote responds to your actions.

When do JB get theirs?

I'm thinking of cancelling my EB preorder and putting it over to JB.

Post 59

I prawn at Wii bowling.

Post 60

i suck at wii baseball batting, but rock @ pitching

Post 61

eep!

...must...resist...until...new years..

Post 62

Best prices in darwin seem to be at JB Hi Fi..

Games $78
Console $378

Saving at least 10 bucks on the games... controllers are about 5 bucks cheaper then anywhere else to atm.

Brought mine last night :D Addicted!

Post 63

Had a Wii night with frenzy and coco last night. It absolutely roxors. Boxing bowling golf and tennis kick ass. As does Zelda of course. Tho this morning my entire right side is sore arm ribs shoulder. I used muscles last nite i forgot i had. Incredible console and not a bad workout also.

Post 64

i want to buy one.. but i dont have the money :(

Post 65

I played Wii sports yesterday :) Heaps of fun.

I got KO'd by Milenko

We figured that the baseball swing was more in the timing than the whole swing action like it shows you to do.

We done Heretic for finally getting one out of the park :)

Had a Wii night at Heretics place on Friday just passed.
'bout six people all up, spent about 10hrs playing Wii.

This morning, entire right side was stiff and sore :P
Awesome fun. It really is a party console.

Nintendo have swung a home-run with their Multiplayer, once again.

Post 67

i found the key to hitting homers was to use barely any arm swing, and lots of wrist action.

i've just had eye of the tiger on repeat for 30 minutes playing the boxing, now i'm knackered. aaaaaaaaaaaaaadriaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan

Nintendo just choose not to subsidise their consoles like Sony and Microsoft do (i.e. Nintendo makes a profit on hardware).

Not saying that's necessarily a better business model but unlike Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo only make games and don't have other non-gaming divisions to help them turn a profit.

Post 71

And nintendo is the only games company out of microsoft and sony turning a profit (sony overall and microsoft just in the games division)

Anyone buy the rayman title it seems to be the best kept secret, i thought it was a rayman platform but turns out to be heaps of wicked minigames. Perfect party style. Definate must buy if you want the wii for the party factor.

Post 78

Almost finished Zelda, I think heh, but amazing game, gameplay wise it makes Ocarina of Time look so basic. The dungeons and fight dynamics are absolutely incredible. Minda's Energy Field has to be one of the coolest abilites in any game.

The controls work well too. Realyl want some component cables though :(

K-Mart did that to me once on a DVD, they are bloody hard to get off without damaging the case. Took me a couple pairs of pliers and some cutters. There must be an easier way tho.

im still using the battery's that come with it, and they are showing full charge still, i have used them for probly around 20hrs or more so i think you should be able to get more than 35hrs out of it, especially if you buy the xpensive long life betteries like e2

Fairly sure you have to hold a magnet on either side of the case and then slide the lock, not certain though, that's just how it LOOKED like you had to do it when i smashed one open to get a bloody memory card loose (stupid harvey norman).
