70kph around a corner; just on dawn with the sun not quite up. Hit a big wet oily patch on the road, couldnt avoid it. Bike went out from under me; hit the tarmac and skidded. Wasnt wearing my draggin jeans and ended up with a big ass rash on my left knee.
Went into hospital (drove there myself after getting a taxi home, as i was otherwise totally fine) and had it scrubbed out while sucking down some nitrous to take the edge off (which it ****en didnt).
Suprisingly Im not in much pain at all - nurses did a good job with the wound.
Now I have to go and pick up the bike which is hopefully a write off. Didnt get much time to inspect it; but the left faring is fuxord; pegs and mirror ripped off etc. Not sure about engine damage - will have to check.
All in all, i was pretty lucky. Especially consdering there was a delivery truck in the oncoming lane when I went down.
Back into surgery tomorrow to get some more of the shit cut out of my skin. Youchies.
F*ck you were lucky! I came of a bike 9 years ago at 80k and still suffer from neck injuries. Got a stone wedged between the front caliper and pad, ass over tit, hit ground head first.
Hopefully you will heal up alright, jump back on that bike and treat it like a bitch.
friend of mine hit a bus at 35, basically t boned the bus door at the front (buses fault)
you can imagine the bike was stuffed and my friend was not seriously hurt but the bus would of barely moved at all with the impact.
The old man on the bus told the police he was speeding wildly and hit the bus while he was taken to hospital in a kneck brace - old man was discharged 3 hours later with no injury (hopefully told his an old whinging dick at the same time)

Maybe so, but leather will generally outlast a slide long enough that you dont get shredded. If you still get shredded through leather you probably crashed so hard it didnt matter what the vehicle or clothing was.
its not even a point worth arguing. if the leather helps even a bit, it's worth wearing. i'm sure the 500cc bike riders aren't wearing their clothes for the comfort alone.

Police found he was doing 35 in a 40 zone
If the bus was pulling out of the bus zone he has right of way in a 40 zone.

Either way you've done well walking away man. I've had a mate who broke both his legs (which took him a good 6 months to get over - his R1 was a write-off... hit a tree that he missed), one who slid for 25 metres and banged into a Hannons bin and broke his collar bone (carpark accident) and another who lost his leg up to his hip and use of one of his arms (rode into a parked truck at dawn). Also countless mates with the same injuries as you... one of them slid through the Berrimah lights intersection... was pretty lucky a truck didn't clean him up.
So yeah... you've done alright man. Maybe time to get rid of the bike while you're still ahead?
I have a permanently ****ed knee and have accumulated 2 broken ribs, a broken arm, bruised lungs, broken hand, broken ankle twice, and a grand total of 78 stitches from various bike accidents...

lol... but then again, you won't be trying to bunny-hop a motocross bike over a wheelie bin. One of my mates used to be able to do that... on a BMX of course.
A lot of people that die while on a motorcycle aren't at fault. It's the nature of the beast - and it's hugely unsafe, despite how good a rider you might be, or how sensible you are when on one.
Motorcyclists account for a staggeringly low percentage of motorists, but a staggeringly high percentage of deaths on our roads.
Just to update, he is in hospital, went there yesterday, and after a fiasco (i had no idea how ****ing horribly shit public hospitals were) he is now going to spend the weekend, so it doesnt get infected.
He rocked up at 1pm after being told 2pm, only to then have them say he should have been there at 8am. He fasted all night and day, but could only sit in a corridor with an IV drip for 9 hours waiting for a bed. let alone a doctor to do the proceedure.
Its a really deep wound, so in order to clean it properly he has to be put under general anaesthetic. Its not life threatening or anything but it has to be done.
Its not so much that public hospitals are shit, they do a fantastic job, it's just that for every 5 patients they only have the facilities to deal with 3 at a time (Numbers for example purposes only).
The job they do is pretty good from personal experience, having spent a lot of time in RDH over the years, and considering what they have to work with I'd be hard pressed to complain. Yes waiting sucks, yes administration errors happen, but they are only human and they are insanely short staffed and under funded.
Oh i dont mean the acutal job they do, i mean the management. its like no one is in charge and no one organises shit :P
if they say to guys like lenko, its not threatening, we don't have room, come back tomorrow. it'll be sweet. but yeah they do, do it tough eh. i wonder why no one wants to become a nurse :P
Just got home :) The knees been cleaned up and didnt require a skin-graft.
Basically the lesson learned is to wear my kevlars. If they had have been on; I would have walked to work that day.
As for the pros/cons of bike briding and their associated arguments - Some people enjoy motorbikes and accept the risks. Others don't like the risks so they wont ride.
Motorbike riders aren't ingorant to the facts - on the most part they are far more aware of them than non bike riders.
