hi guys
just after who is with what ISP's these days

im doing the whirlpool search Broadband Choice to help me choose the best isp/plan but i want to know what isps are stable and get good pings.

internode, adam, iinet? what is everyone's recommendation these days?

Post 2

Internode.

Post 3

I'm with telstra. The service is the best I've ever
had. This may or may not hold true when I move suburbs in a few weeks

Post 4

Internode for me here to. Your mad if you go past them and your in an exchange that has agile DSLAM's.

Node also tops the Whirlpool users too.

Post 5

Still Internode. The best speeds, best range of quota-free services and highest up-time I've experienced.

Post 6

Internode. Their tech support actually dont think your a retard when you go to them for help

They just do a good job of pretending they don't.

Post 8

I love the online tool that tells you how busy support are. I was telling a Node dude about it the other day. He hadn't heard of it... lol :P

Post 9

Good point!, but their better then telstra i can tell you that XD

Post 10

iinet. I've been with them in the four and a half years I have been in Perth, and had maybe three problems the whole time that required me to use their tech support...each time it was resolved within a reasonably fast time frame.
Stable, good pings to servers. I use an app on my iPhone that monitors my plan and quota used/remaining.
Good plans too, I am on 150Gb for $99.
I worked for Telstra Business and would not touch their residential broadband with Milenko's junk.

Darwin doesn't.

I am quite happy with Internodes service from Nightcliff exchange. Regularly get <60ms ping to games.on.net and now with their Proxy service for WoW never see more than 250ms to WoW (average without it is 600 ish).

I am however using their ADSL easy broardband as ADSL 1 is all I need and 50gb does me fine.

Post 13

I'm another happy Internode customer. As rec says the "up-time" is a big plus. <insert some kind of c0ck joke here>
I'll let you know how my service transfer from one state to another goes in a couple of weeks.

Internode SOHO

I've got a client at Palmy, their Node net has been down since Monday, logged on Wednesday, fixed and unfixed on Friday and still down today.

All this on a business-grade plan too.

I'll be churning this one to Telstra Business in the real near future.....

Post 16

wow - i'm with node, never had a problem that wasn't directly attributable to flooded cable pits. best thing was node did the hard yards getting telstra to come and pump the things out.

Post 17

Re: Best ISPs

About to move all our bigpond business accounts to node sick of it taking 3days to get info out of them about our account.

Main reason I like node is they are not far off on price and update there pricing as the market changes. The extra services they offer are pretty good too.

Well I reckon the flooded pits had to contribute to the Upstraem SNR of 2.2, however thats now back up to an acceptable level (Friday) but still unable to login... Got the SMS on Friday to say it's fixed, went there and installed the modem, but still no login. Call the Help Desk only to be told that they booboo'd by sending the text prematurely.

Bigpond Business?? You mean Telstra Business???

What sort of info?? Info that's not already available online from within CustData???

Post 20

internode ftw

Post 21

internode, but ho-hum in 8 months I move to a smart community :(

telstra no other option

Post 22

I'm with DODO been with them for years
1.5 Unlimited $99.00 monthly
I dowload around 300g monthly these days
online games the lot.

shit service they can't understand a word you say but i don't care cause i can't remember the last day i had to call them.
when they bring out a better plan where i can dowload more for cheaper i'll go for it.

In essence you'd just be churning from Telstra to Telstra, not Internode to Telstra. You're not on Internode/Agile hardware in Palmerston - Internode aren't much more than the account provider.

I can't really recommend Internode anywhere that you're on Telstra hardware. Or any provider anywhere that uses Telstra hardware. They fail as a direct consumer service provider, and as an indirect one - but you might as well go with them so at least you can yell at them directly.

Post 24

i disagree - 5 mins talking to node about past issues with flooded pits vs hours of fucking about doing the shit you already did with telstra every single time. i'll take internode over bigpond any day thank ye very muchly.

Post 25

Agreed. My Internode service over 5 years at two locations and numerous line speeds have all been on Telstra hardware, and I experience the same warm fuzzies you describe rec.

None of these have been in Darwin however.

Post 26

+1 node

Post 27

I stand corrected, then. Internode usually rock on Telstra hardware as well I guess. Please excuse my cynicism. ;)

Post 28

TPG if you want reasonable downloads although expect lengthy support queues if you have technical difficulties. $49.95 for 120GB/mth (60P/60OP) + 512k Down/512k Up "shaping" after quota. Only ADSL1 on Telstra exchanges but ADSL2 on their own DSLAMs.

But Internode if you want consistant up time.

Post 29

Adam tis a goodly ISP filled with jelly and happy left handed fish... always they pick up the phone and are all ways are they happy to take my money...

Post 30

hrrm im in 2 minds
i have been with node for yonks and love the product, and mum and the game servers but they dont offer 2+

iinet offer adsl 2+ in the cbd where ill be moving to and im thinking of giving that a shot. is anyone with them? how is it?

Post 31

adsl1 is fucking shit. end of story.

wait, what? i'm on a node adsl2+ line in palmy. or do you mean they can't offer us their normal plans because they're renting DSLAMs from bogpond?

Post 34

The plans are different if the hardware is Telstra - more expensive as they have to pay for the rent.
My 50 gig plan is "10 per month, and would only be $70 if I was on an Agile DSLAM.

Not sure if that is what you mean or not.

Post 35

yeah i know they're different, just wondering if that's what Knight meant :)

Post 36

i was unaware you can get internode adsl2+ in darwin. can we?

Post 37

yeah - it's via telstra hardware, it costs more than standard node adsl2+ lines, but it does the job - connected at 19.5mb in palmerston via node.

they call it ADSL Fast now: http://www.internode.on.net/residential/broadband/adsl/fast/ used to be called ADSL2Plus for the telstra hardware version.

Edit: aegis beet me to it

Post 39

Internode here (adsl + type)... Can't really justify giong higher then that, but it's not cheap in any case... probably about time I updated my plan.

I'll let you know how my service transfer from one state to another goes in a couple of weeks.

UPDATE: interstate transfer went without a hitch. They disconnected my old service on the exact day that I asked for, and I received a message the same day that the new service was ready to use. I wasn't at the new address until a couple of days later, so I can't confirm 100% that it was the case, but when I arrived, all I did was plug in my router and it was like always - it just worked.

The only down side is that I get around 10% less speed in the new loaction, but that is hardly their fault.

Post 41

We get Internode ADSL2+ just not Internode Extreme or Naked plans, only the "Fast" plan which uses Telstra equipment

Post 42

Im with telstra bigpond plan 200GB 20000/1000 ADSL2+ with a Billion modem/WIFI and a belkin Wifi N and its insainly fast and more downloads. A good setup for the gamer who needs speed

PS Now i dont have to use Telstra(NSW) Steam content servers anymore and download at full speed with internode and not worry about my CAP

Post 43

i chose to go with ADAM, it was a hard choice to leave internode but adam seem to have the same unmetered content, and there cheaper.

if anyone is with adam ill happily enter your name into the referal system, pm your account name

Post 44

less than 24 hours for telstra to relocate my adsl to a new location. went down wednesday afternoon, back up thursday lunch at the new place. this is telstra, not bigpong btw.
