Due to the SB live I would suggest a 98/2K dual boot.
even 2k drivers for the SBlive suck arse, win 98 ones work fine tho...
This is only important if you intend to use the voice features in CS, which I highly recommend

If you have at least half a brain use XP - the so called problems that people have with it can be solved easily.

winxp gets my vote. sb live = no hassles. its a refreshing change to install a windows os and have it flawless detect and install _all hardware, first time_. there is the issue of the odd game not working, but the vast majority do.

OD....you calling me brainless???
Come on mate...you should know better than that!

NEVER!
I guess its all about how you look at it.

Well.. PC AUTHORITY have said that if you have winme/98 go for it.. use xp but if u are a 2k user it is not worth it..
But they are assuming that u pay for it [Blocked image]

I would also suggest 2K or XP..

Bah, Win98 - don't need a bloatware OS sucking up power. Will be switching over to Linux as my primary OS anyway, once I get better XFree drivers and buy a few titles from Lokigames.

I'm going to do a fresh install of my machine and wanted to get your opinions on which OS to use.
Current HW:
P3 733
384 MB Ram
Asus 32MB Geforce 2 GTS
SB LIVE
I have had problems with driver compatibility with my vid card and certain games causing lockups which is why i want a fresh install. That way i can start from scratch and get the system running stable prior to tweaking.

EH... What titles U lookin for ?
The quakes ( patch and Windoze binaries ) run in Linux, HL/CS will run in Wine, and Tribes 2 comes as a Loki title ( I have it )..
Also I am not 100% but hasnt Loki gone under ?

XP or 2K
i used to dualboot with 98SE but the problems and errors in 98 were just too much for me too handle [Blocked image]
so i can live with bad frames because of it [Blocked image]

Uh. more stable? where'd you pull that from? anyone who has problems with XP, well, its more likely to do with them then the OS. i know dozens of people who run it and haven't seen a hint of application failure or operating system error.
Post 15
XP *is* very resource hungry though, which can contribute to system instability
Post 16
yep that's true...no point with XP if you got 128mb of ram or less....
2K is very good, i found that it was more stable than XP, XP has had some compatability issues on some of my hardware where 2K didn't. XP has crashed twice while 2K has never crashed for me...
damn i miss 2K [Blocked image]
anyways, i'm just glad i got rid of ME, that os is the worst hunk of shit that they have ever brought out. [Blocked image]

I'm about to upgrade to 512Mb of RAM but I only have a 500Mhz P3. Is that enough for good speed on XP?
Post 18
I've had it up and running fine on a 600mhz Duron w/256mb RAM. Mind you, this was simply an office style machine, which is to say all it did was run office applications. But, what it did, it did fast, It didn't seen like it was struggling at all. Just give it a shot, and get rid of it if it doesn't work well enough [Blocked image]
Post 19
Ruin, I'm running it without a glitch on a p2 333 with 360Mb of memory - you should be fine
Post 20
I use 2k myself, it uses the same system as XP but more stable.
Keep away from ME at all costs
Post 21
Cool, thanks guys ^_^
Post 22
that's right it doesn't really run using the processor speed so you as long as you are over the minimum requirements you are fine. having more and faster ram is the way to go if you are using XP or 2K.

Loki has made arrangements that permit them to continue their operations, or so I've heard. They still seem to be operating.
