All right, I know the Voodoo III was a card most gamers have experience with at some point; what kind of drivers does one recommend that I use? I'm using the stock standard 3dfx ones at the moment, however, I have a suspition that there are more out there. www.voodoofiles.com has many, but I'm not sure if they're compadible with WickedGL, or even with the card itself.
What should I use? Stick with the one's I'm using, or take other drivers?
Well the truth is that the standard CD drivers no matter how old are always the best for 3dfx cards. You may get better FPS with newer drivers, but the image quality and compatability will go out the door with the newer ones (even the 3dfx official ones). I can get better performance with newer Voodoo5 drivers but its not worth degrading the image quality to nVidia standards just to get an extra few FPS!
go to www.wicked3d.com and download WickedGL, and you will never look back at the default glide wrapper that HL and Q3 comes with.
Btw, theres also a new version of the Glide wrapper for HL that supports the Voodoo3 right through to the Voodoo5. (Or so I have been told) i think its available from sierra's website
I have tried using some 3rd party drivers from voodoofiles.com for my voodoo 3 and every one of them crashed my computer :( . I reccomend that you use the standard 3dfx drivers (at least they work!)
