The dates for DGA EVO, are January 25th till 27th Australia long weekend.
Location - Northern Territory University, Building 24, Map for EVO
Room - The Hallway room

just checked out the prices for Qantas return flights from canberre to darwin departing early monring 15th August 2002, $825 for the return ticket, 8 hour flight. im thinking maybe catch a train, that'll take a few days but that will include a room and meals, and will cost max $500. ive been overseas 3 times so i wonder if ma folks have frequent flyers points.....that $800 ticket to go with my new "600 comp, and $400 in spending money equals what $2800, $2800 divided by a $7 and hour job would mean i have to work for 466.666667 hours @ a takeaway store before i can go to darwin. ill save up now and ask ma folks [Image: http://bbs.gamers.octa4.net.au/biggrin.gif], cos i REALLY want to be @ this LAN and check out darwin

Bongo if you catch the train it's going to take a lot longer than a few days, they don't plan on finishing the line from Alice Springs to Darwin for about 3 years yet [Image: http://bbs.gamers.octa4.net.au/biggrin.gif]

All of us hear your pain about air fares though. It's even worse being in Darwin. The only way out is by air and it cost shit loads. Oh sure you can drive somewhere if you've got a week to get there......

ok.. ive done a bit of research tonite on travel there, food, board and stuff like that. yeh cicada dude there aint no trains that go to darwin, it'd take a bloody week to get there. plane for me is still the way to go, DGA Evo is after chrissie so from all my rellies i could get a few hundred bucks. i had planned out to go on a study tour with school to japan nxt yr but i aint doin jap for yr11 or 12, so there's $3000 that'd i might be able to use. the only idea i got is thst i pay for the ticket, dad pays for the comp and the other oney that i need.

Well lets see..
I can drive up.. And that will probably cost the same in petrol as flying up.. And will prob take about 4 days to do so..

Train, sheet bugger that. All along the east coast then fly across..

I will B flying up..

Will prob come up 4 a week.. 4 days LAN action , then 3 days of whatever..

Oh and boys clamp down a definite date, cos I will have to extend my normal X-mas shutdown @ work and take annual leave for it ( which is cool I got truckloads )..

Work shuts down just B4 X-mas and restarts about a week in the new year..

So its all fine 4 me, just gotta let the heads here @ work know the dates..

That way I can also plan and book flights, etc..

as for costs on fuel .. depending on what it costs for ya to fill up your car!! around $50 to $70 for about 300 to 500 kilometers on a 3000 k trip $480 .
But of course I didnt allow for the trip back home .. and if u get nightcrawler to come with u .. share the costs

I wouldnt know how long it takes..

Still a plane is a lot quicker.. even if the speed limit is open..

Takes 3-4 days if you stop for sleep.

If you have two or three others with you, and a roomy car - You can keep driving (rotating driver) and it takes about two days.
Keep in mind you will need a GOOD bumper bar because I garuntee that you WILL hit a few kangas if driving at night.

yep I am definitely gonna try to make it .... Sly if we can razz up someone else to come (I may have a mate) we can drive and it shouldn't be too expensive ....

Also mebbe Virgin will have its shit together by then and we can fly for a decent price ... heard it will be around $200 each way ... not too bad.

See how we go .... work will be slow that time of year so will be able to disappear for a week .... btw I will prolly be able to razz up a very cheap car for a week if we fly ....

As for accomodation I may be of some assistance. I will speak to my employers and determine whether I am able to get some rooms at my place of employment. No not the cells but the VOQ or visiting Officers quarters.

I wouldnt worry too much about accomodation as there is enough around and Sponge can do some shonkys.

As for the time of lan please consider mid to late January as otherwise Ill be in Brisbane on hols with fam and will be most upset and distraught at missing meeting those who suffered the misery of looking at the sharp end of my MP5.

Ok By that time of year, I will have about a month and a half of annual leave, so for the time being I will take the end of the year off, till prob mid Feburary..

I will want to B up there in Darwin for a couple of weeks..

Plans may change tho, I will know in the next few weeks, I may even B comming up for a fair while longer..

YAY! I can't wait until the EVOLUTION LAN is upon us!

Myself and Eater of Souls were at the expotech 2001 in darwin, talking to Netgear representative... he said down south they rent out their networking gear at " per port... We will both be in contact with him about leasing a full on network infrastructure setup, gigabit ethernet, firewalls, routers, switches blah blah blah... hopefully we can minimise down-time for the EVOLUTION in darwin gaming...

ALso, I will be talking to the ASUS importer of Australia whom I purchase my ASUS gear from, asking them if they would like to sponsor the EVOLUTION LAN. Down south they sponsor big LANS and give out prizes for first place, like a top of the line geforce3 or something like that... sound good?...

yeah yeah baby!! i have a lot of friends who are definitely coming to this lan event that have NEVER been to a DGA lan or any other organised LAN before... so you can expect a lot of new blood!
