ATi Radeon 9700 Maxx [Image: http://images.google.com/images?q=tbn:K15tvlbxTXEC:www.campbellsci.com/images/question.jpg] I have an actual pic, but I can't find it :( Looks worthy, lets hope they bring it out. I have been told it's gonna wait till the GF5 comes out 4Q 2002/1Q2003, yay.
I thought ATi said they weren't even bringing out a dual gpu card..? I'll go look for it now..
EDIT (FROM HARDOCP TUESDAY JULY 9th): We are getting plenty of mail from readers asking why we have not posted about the dual GPU VidCard from ATi. Well here is why as stated by Rubeena Hussein of ATi.
We have no current intentions of making this or similar boards.
Don't believe everything you read from people that would call themselves credible sources. Credible sources do NOT use blind emails from Hot Mail addresses as statements of fact. Many of us received this hoax last week.
Here is the picture that is circulating with the bogus email from someone that makes them out to be an insider with ATi. The picture is obviously a photoshopped rendition of press photos of other products.
They didn't sell the Radeon 256 Maxx either although they did actually make working versions as they have with the R300 (9700). I have heard a rumour that the R300 may be available in Maxx form around December when the GF5 comes out to remain competitive (which makes sense), but as I said that is only a rumour. If they don't make a Maxx card then I won't buy an Ati product, it's that simple. BTW don't think that I'll go out and buy an nVidia thing either! If Ati become tight (no Maxx cards) then I'll save for a Scaleable P10 or hold on to my V5 since I haven't been able to find a game that won't run on it yet.
I would like to know which decade it'll be coming out. Sif Doom 3 is better than Doom 1. Doom 1 and Heretic run really nicely at 1024*768 in OpenGL and Glide just ask Locy
It'll probably OpenGL 2.0 as John Carmack always uses OpenGL :P They said they're aiming at Doom3 to run at about 30 fps on normal graphics settings with a GF3.

Quote from Seqo_ae: it'll run, but it will run like shit.
the expected high settings will, supposedly, not be able to run on the Geforce '5's but i'm not too sure on this.
it will be OpenGL 2.0. Yes but that's an nVidia product, so why aren't we surprised. Also Doom 3 is more optimised for the Radeon 9700 than a GF3/4 or soon-to-be GF5 because of nVidia's lack of driver suport for game developers. Surves them right, its' their own fault.
I know it's OpenGL, why do you think Microsoft is claiming they own OpenGL? It's because all the rew games coming out are OpenGL and not DX, that's why they are shitty.

get a goddamn clue. they did not claim they 'own' opengl at any stage.

Indeed. It's one of the few things that MS doesn't claim they own :)
Seriously though, OpenGL has been an open-source 3d acceleration system out for a while now (based on 3dfx Glide), and MS put out Direct3d as direct competition for it. Hence, Direct3d gets pushed a LOT by MS.
Direct3d is restricted to MS platforms only (MS loves that), and has a pretty hefty licensing fee (MS loves that too).

OpenGL is cross-platform :)

they did, however, make a claim to possibly having contributing IP to opengl, so did a fuckload of other companies tho (this was at a standards board meeting or some such, i forget exactly, but i assume its what odyssey was trying to talk up as claiming ownership)
Why do you all think its gonna run shit??? They wrote the game so it won't run shit. Hence absolutly no open outdoor areas. All inclosed small rooms. You will be able to run it if you have pixel shaders(can run the 3dmark nature scene).
The exception of course is i people are running a GF3 on agpx2 on a 600 mhz cpu. then it will run shit.
True those dudes need a CPU upgrade, however using a GF3 with 2xAGP really isn't any different than 4xAGP unless you are running something hardcore such as a 1600x1200 resolution or AA. The Matrox Parhelia is really the first card to actually fully use 4xAGP with its memory bandwidth of 20GB/sec. The GeForce2/3/4 or Radeon 9000 or below doesn't even come close to that so its not fully necessary, but preferred by many to be running 4xAGP. A perfect example of this is the Xabre 400 Pro.
You would think so, but many people dont understand that although T&L offloads work from the CPU it uses a huge amount of bandwidth. For example PCI graphics cards can perform games and benchmarks much faster with software T&L (CPU) than hardware.
If I can get the scanner working I will show you an article in this magazine.
I found this picy of an NV25 SLi, its a fake but still funny. BTW two NV25's does not equal an NV30 :) [Image: http://www.pcpop.com.cn/popimages/2002-4-1-10-12-22.jpg]
Wait a min *looks inside case* Yep a Voodoo5 with NV25 GPUs, DVI, VO and TBGA Memory. Who did they do the memory modules so well, must be whore with photoshop :)
