Valve Half-Life Survey of 557,984 Gamers
http://valve.speakeasy.net/
Rendering mode
OpenGL 163986 (49.5%)
Software 114564 (34.6%)
Direct 3D 52628 (15.9%)

Looks like people would rather use software rendering over DX if OpenGL isn't an option hehe, no really it isn't that bad....is it? The survey includes a Voodoo3, but I don't see an option for Glide, I guess Glide would come under OpenGL as it does in the Video menu then?

If you don't have a video card at all, wouldn't you not have an option to use direct x OR opengl?

Post 3

640x480 61730 (18.7%)
512x384 3229 (1.0%)
400x300 23878 (7.2%)
320x240 32139 (9.7%)

OMFG as if you would use less than 800x600

Ruin, everyone has a video card.. Unless U use the force to play CS :)

But I know what U mean.. The video card in this box is a Matrox 200. And it doesnt really support OpenGL, or Direct 3D.

Or if the Computer is one of those Horrid " all in 1 " mobo abbominations.. They dont normally support any 3D acceleration modes either..

Sly, you mean like a dell or a gateway?
I dont have one, but some of my friends do, man they're shocking

Well thats even worse, I mean those " PC100 " style boards..

But any board with basicaly no upgrade options are horrid..

Oh and for those who are interested, the bulletin board did infact go weird for a while, and everyone would have timed out when posting soemthing, but it all remained buffered.

So I am in the process of removing all the extra posts now..

One of the new C3's :)

Only good for lan/cable servers :)

can't knock those that want to play CS with computers that can't run anything but software at the lowest res. i used to play Half Life online with a crappy ass 233 Cyrix and 1mb S3 video card. no 3d acceleration needed ;) 400x300 res in software mode was fun :)

:D Although Halflife and CS don't need a 3D card to run the majority of people who own a PC and would be part of this forum would at least own a 3D card on and intergated Video System which could handle 3D. While I use Open GL and Glide I do beacuse my 3D card is an old Voodoo 2 because D3D is unstable on my old card and dosent look as good. When I upgrade I'll use which ever looks best and preforms good.

:D It's peoples own desision what they use but they must either own a low spec PC or for some other reason if they use software. :?
