Physicists working in Europe announced yesterday that they had passed through nature's looking glass and had created atoms made of antimatter, or antiatoms, opening up the possibility of experiments in a realm once reserved for science fiction writers. http://www.nytimes.com/2002/09/19/science/19HYDR.html?ex=1033444800&en=17e80a62041da18d&ei=5062&partner=GOOGLE
Um the US has had antimatter reactors for years, they were given/reverse engineered them from you know who. They use them as advanced "craft" propulsion. Is this their way of letting "the people" know that this technology exists? Perhaps they feel it's better if we think it was only just recently discovered in a science lab instead of the truth.
one of my old physics textbooks had pictures of antimatter collisions under a spectroscope or some shit i think, yeah, i don't think its a new discovery either.
nope, ancient, new scientist loves it basically you pound an electron into a hydrogen nucleus and give it a negative charge (fairly sure) (basically baahaahahhaa) and then when it comes into contact with normal matter they both cease to exist giving the equivalent amount of energy e = mc2 job :P but apparently they can use it more efficiently than just exploding it, no idea how that works though :P and apparently it takes a bit of effort to make too like a teaspoon full every million years with all reactors working at once (exaggeration)
OK so we have invented: Antimatter reactor Transporter Tractor beem Artificial gravity
Next all we need is a phaser so then we can cram all these things into a starship and go Star Trekken 8) Maybe shoot some Cardassian's (avitar) or our local Klingon General
Quote from Mephiston: antimatter and matter tend to react violently when they meet :P It's called a "warp core breach", don't laugh this shit is becoming reality not Sci-Fi.

No leave me alone or i'll cloak my Bird of Prey and fire torpedoes :)

Bird's of Prey can't fire when cloaked - there was one, but it got nuked :P
Yep! anti-matter was discovered awile ago. world book enclopedia cdrom from 1999 has info on it and on an ion drive engine! We also now have portable pcs and comunication devices which in the 1960's wasn't possible and the computers took rooms to fill and the capacity of less than a pc.
Quote from Mephiston: Bird's of Prey can't fire when cloaked - and you call yourself a trekkie! :P A Bird of Prey prototype could, who's the trekkie now? :P
BTW the Romulan ship in Nemesis is twice as powerful as a standard Warbird. That's probably why the Enterprise (Sovereign Class) has to ram it. Story line; The Federation is about to encounter its greatest challenge - The Romulans want peace. Conceived in the regal senate halls of Romulus and forged in the dilithium mines of Remus, comes a nemesis bent on destroying Picard... and the entire Federation.
Ordered by Starfleet to be the first line of diplomacy in ushering in a new era for the Federation, the crew of the USS Enterprise-E is dispatched to Romulus for an unexpected peace mission. Once in the shadow of the Romulan Empire, Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the Enterprise crew are thrust into the center of a plot that could lead to the destruction of Earth at the hands of a new and chilling nemesis.
