OK ATi released the 9500, 9500Pro and 9700 (non Pro) and have shocased the DDR-II 9700Pro (if its called that). nVidia are trying to withhold the NV30 specs, but they aren't doing a very good job (yay for us :D ). The NV30 will be used in multi-chip boards for Quantum3D to replace the aging VSA100  that is still using the "enhanced 0.25m" process and using SDRAM! (they were/still are awesome).
Anyone interested in buying the 9500 or 9700 should check this out click here biatch because the 9700 may have good high performance, but its FPS are very jumpy and can drop quite low. My bro got a Gigabyte 9700Pro and I have to say its not very special at all, actually I won't lie to you, its pretty damm shit if you ask me. Their multitexturing is quite poor  and what makes it worse is all new games are using heavy multitexturing.
Below is some reading material I have found whoring the net...

ATI Technologies already showcased their DDR-II supporting RADEON 9700 PRO based graphics cards on a TV-show last night, as discovered at Rage3D. Unfortunately, there is no information at all about the product, but they say it was a fully functional device, running a demo.

The NV30 graphics processor has 8 rendering pipelines with 2 TMUs per each, supports beyond DirectX 9.0 features and represents the brand-new VPU architecture from the most successful graphics chips developer so far. Besides, the graphics boards based on the newcomer will feature AGP 8x and 256-bit memory bus. There will be two videoadapters providing different performance, powered by the NV30 VPU, additionally, Nvidia will also issue two graphics cards for professional use. As for the clock-speeds of the up and coming products, the company will offer 325-400MHz range for the VPU and probably something between 700 and 800MHz for the memory.

The prices of the actual boards are to be determined, though, I personally believe they will not be higher than $399.

The NV35 is a step forward in terms of technology, for example, it is logically to assume that it will has 8 rendering pipes with 4 TMUs per each and support the DirectX 9.1. It may be introduced in 6 or 8 month after the original NV30 and become another long-standing player like the GeForce2 GTS is.

/me thinks of saving money till the Q3D multi-chip NV30 is released :D

Won't be long before the memory clock on the latest video card becomes faster than my CPU clock. :?

Post 4

Yeah, well assuming that the memory clock on the NV30 isnt listed as 1GHz equivalent speed (500 MHz DDR) then its getting a bit close to my CPU :)

Post 5

Who cares, all of the processing is done on the video cards these days so a shit CPU will only cap your frames. Would I care if I was only getting 100 FPS regardless of resolution and quality settings like AA and AF?
Fruck no!

your link to the page that shows the low FPS of a radeon card is informative........ and the evidence that its jumpy fps is there.

but it also says the one thing thats important, its probably a driver bug.

3dfx, nvidia, ati, all graphics cards manufacturers have had drivers that are buggy.

just wait a bit, the 9700 is still a new card. I am sure ATI are looking into this right now.

it could also be proof that ut2k3 was biult around nvidia cards.

*shrug* i dont know.

all i know is that my gf3ti500 is going well, and i will probably keep it for another 6 months.

1. They have already relesed new drivers, I could understand if the 9500 wasn't properly tested, but the 9700 has had plenty of time. The problem isn't just limited to UT2K3 though as other benchmark programs and games show the multitexturing on the R300 based products is rather poor.

2. So you'll be skipping the NV30 and waiting the six months for the NV35?

Post 8

oh i agree, multitexturing is poor, because there are less texture units in it then the 4600!!! i have NO idea what ATI did that, and its stupid.

and yea, i will probably be waiting out till the nv35, or what is coming after the 9700.

the only game that shows my cards age is unreal tourny ;)

and i would like to say that my gf3 is nearly a year old!! everyone wish it a happy birthday on the 17th of November i think.

me keeping a card much less a whole computer is rare for over 6 months.

just goes to show what performance is POSSIBLE doesnt mean you need it immediately.

more then anything i will probably upgrade to an XP2600+

Post 9

lol, me, and Odyssey have cards that are 3 years old (although i've only had mine for about 6 months) and they still perform more than sufficiently :)

Post 10

Err I'm sorry but it has been confirmed that there will be only one GPU/VPU on the NV30. The support to have multiple chips has been there since the GeForce 2. The mulit-chip was really just a rumor that has been flying around and has been cut down by nVidia.

Post 11

Err no im sorry but we arent talking about any normal third party manufacturer here. Quantum3D make the Quadro series based on Nvidia chips and the AAlchemy series based on the VSA-100 (3dfx) chips. They will be the ones to make a multi chip NV30 card, not any of these crappy little third party companies that currently make nvidia cards :P

Post 12

Ahh sorry thought you meant the normal consumer cards. There have been alot of rumors about multi-chip NV30s. Sorry again.

Post 13

Yeah no worry's, i heard that one too, and from what ive heard recently it will sort of be multi chip as the TT&L engine will have its own chip, but it wont be a true multi chip (multi GPU) card unfortunately.

Post 14

Martok is correct, the NV30 isn't multi GPU (for the mass market), it's simply a GPU and the T&L (now TT&L) is seperated and has become a seperate chip to save useful real estate on the GPU so it can fit more features on it (can you say 3dfx Rampage?).

And nVidia will have to make a multichip card for Quantum3D, the 3dfx VSA100 just can no longer cut it against multichip R200's and R300's. BTW nVidia already make a dualchip card, it's one of the Quadro models.
