After the last one went astray hahaha

ok plans so far, (open to changes)

Leave Darwin 4 dec.

arrive brisbane 7 dec.

leave brisbane 10 dec.

arrive sydney 10 dec.

leave sydney 13

arrive melbourne 13

leave melbourne 16 and head straight back to darwin through adelaide, probably stay at adelaide for a day.

now at this point we will avaluate our money... if we cant afford it, we wont be able to get to adelaide. i would like to though... we will see.
we probably WILL cos then we will go straight north back to darwin.

hell we may not even get to melbourne, but since fuel tends to be cheaper then a dollar a litre down there it should be ok.

now for me, I have ppl i can stay with in brisbane, and melbourne.
However, is there anyone i could ask a favour of and put me up for a couple of days in sydney?

as for spero, as far as i know she has everyone/every city sorted out place wise.

anyways.... ppl to say hi too?
howie wants me to visit doyen ;)

who is in brisbane? syd? and melbourne?
and of course stops along the way.

I intend to drive pretty well non stop taking turns till we reach each city, however that may change especially in outback queensland due to the dumb ass fuck kangaroos. Also depending on money and other circumstances.

I can also take/recieve items for ppl who need it.

Today car got its suspension, power steering, and ball joints checked/fixed. Car will be in road trip mode as of friday arvo ;)

CANT WAIT!!!!

EDIT:
spero has to be back in darwin by the 20.......

we may have to skip some of those cities....... DOH.
probably sydney, will work that out when i get to talk to her.

It'll take you 4 days (3 if you rush) to get to Brisbane. I've been on road-trips down there.

That timing is a little optimistic.

Post 3

Quote from Rainwulf A'Kahnon:

I was just discussing that bit with Neo. We thought that timing sounded very optimistic.

Post 4

Mate its 3484 kms to Brisbane. Id say aiming to make that in two days is well optimistic. Other than that your timings seem fine. Im aiming to do the Darwin to Newcastle in three days. Might knock a little off the night before by going to Katherine, Mataranka.

Post 5

HEhe yeah, spend one gooood day on the road and your make it to the first town in qld (Camoveel?) or with a bit of luck even Mt Isa. NT you've got open speed limits for majority of it, but in qld its between 100 and 110km/h max. From here to Brisbane will take another good day at the least, more likely two though :)

Post 6

A while ago my family used to drive down to Brisbane every christmas to visit all our relatives (We moved up here in '96, still have many relatives and friends in Brisbane) - 3 days was the best we acheived, typically we'd make the journey in 4-5 days.

Post 7

its possible to do Darwin to Brisbane that quick, but you *really* want to trust your car, and you'd probably want at least one other driver to swap with.

FYI keeping up that pace will leave you feeling very ill too :P

I tend to agree with everyone else, leave yourself a good 3 days to do Darwin to Brisbane, and you probably want to do the same from Adelaide to Darwin (assuming you make it that far)

You will probably want to re-evaluate your finances in Sydney rather than Melbourne, cause once you hit Melb, its almost cheaper to go back through the center, which means you'll end up hitting Adelaide, even if briefly :P

Post 8

ok i will expand that a bit.

Post 9

far as im concerned we cant make such elaborate plans.. my holiday leave starts on the 2nd till the 20th and that was hard to scam

thank god to my doctor for giving me stress leave :P

Post 10

darwin <-> adelaide is 2 days easy.

Post 11

20th...... mmmmmm do you get xmas off?

Post 12

Quote from paladin:
darwin <-> adelaide is 2 days easy.

mm will probably make it then!!

Post 13

Quote from paladin:
darwin <-> adelaide is 2 days easy.

I've done it in 2, but it hurt. 3 is much more enjoyable. Like I said, if your doing it that quick, you really want to trust your car

Post 14

easy, that is, if you don't mind a 14 or so hour drive each day.

i've done the trip numerous times (family in adelaide), although never as a driver. darwin->alice, alice->adelaide. the alice<->adelaide trip being the longest.

darwin<->alice i've done in a 16 seater coaster that had one more person than seat, plus all associated luggage, and thats still a one day drive.

mind you, i also know someone who didnt want to ride the coaster down, so drove, and promptly snapped a drive shaft or something in the middle of fucking nowhere.

one other thing to possibly consider, is driving back in the middle of the wet season, stuart highway can get cut off.

Post 15

Busses stink for long journeys, plus you do need to rest as well as travel.

Some people might be able to drive like crazy and get there in incredible times, but its much better to take things at a comfortable pace.

things break, got that taken care of, insurance, and timetable setting. If i dont make a call by a certain time, things will be set in motion to figure out whats happened.

as for the highway, yea thats one thing i cant count on. Its one of the reasons i want to go back via melb-syd-brisbane.

heh, imo, the only thing that makes that drive enjoyable, is finishing it :)

Post 18

To a certain extent thats true, but the drive is worse if you're pushing yourself too hard.

Post 19

Quote from Aravi:

yea we definately want to enjoy the drive, at least not make ourselves totally fucked.

Post 20

Yeah, take the time to get out and walk when you stop somewhere, your legs go to sleep while you're in the car.

Your arse can also get sore from sitting in the seat for so long (I've had this, its a pain).

Post 21

been there, done that, rode on a 250 cc bike from brisbane to melbourne in 24 hours straight!!!

half way a long i stacked it and broke my collarbone, and busted my knee, but i kept going and admitted myself to hospital the next morning ;)

i did that at about... sydney i think, and got back on... did the whole trip bent over so the bone didnt scrape.

Post 22

Rainwulf i go with you to visit those freaks :P in melbourne just in case they get abit of of hand :P

(i'm from melborune so it's a joke about the freak thing)

Post 27

Post 28

doesnt she have learners?

if she would only IM me i would know! hahaha
she has been really busy lately.

Worse comes to worse i can drive a lot... just need breaks.

i think it will be mucho more boring for both of us if i was the only one that drove.

legally of course, i will drive ;)

Post 29

She can drive while the car's resting on the side of the road. :P

Post 30

Hey, if you don't like her driving stay off the sidewalk :P

Post 31

Quote from Aravi:

no insult to her (please dont kill me spero), but she is perfectly capable of driving on the highway, just in the cities/suburbia i will drive.

she apparently can drive!! lol
she said she can! so i believe her. i havent seen her drive yet, so i may be in for a suprise. *dig dig*

Post 43

IT'S A TRUCK ADAM

Post 44

times posted are not impossible for the trip just improbable. I have done cairns to port lincoln in just over the 24 hr mark which is a fair hike if ya look it up on a map :P

adelaide to sydney in 10 1/2 hrs with a stop for food on the way (mind you the trip home was slowed down once we got the $670 fine)

family trip adelaide to brisbane in about 24hrs of driving over 2 days (god that was boring and god my dad is a bad bad driver)

Post 45

Quote from Aravi:
WE'VE GOT RIGHT OF WAY!

One of the best things I learnt from my driving instructor while going aronud the highways.

Just because you have right of way, there's no reason why we should have to pile straight into the side OF THAT FARKING HUGE SEMI!
*Instructor kicks instructor side brake for a bit*

I wasn't too great with my mirror checks yet.

no it was removed becuase i got sick of having ringhing in my ears after driving it 5 kms.

Post 47

In this case I was stopping, as was the truck. Of course, my passengers didn't think the truck would stop (and would instead drive into us  ).

I explained this one in another thread. Its still good for humour value.

Post 48

Post 49

OMG am i like ignored on these boards or something

Post 51

Ok, since I am an obsessive-compulsive-explainer-type-person, I'll explain Adam's "Right of Way" comment.

We were all driving in Adam's car. That is to say, Blake, myself, Steven and Andrew were passangers while Adam was driving. We pulled into the T-junction beside Bunnings on Bishop street, near the flyover. We were turning right towards the flyover. Approaching us was a large truck. Adam stopped, the truck began to slow down, but for some reason- we're not sure if Adam didn't apply the brakes hard enough, or accidently hit the accellerator, but he yelled, "We've got right of way!" and began moving out infront of the truck. Note, people, that this truck (assuming it was full) was still moving at quite a pace, and probably could not stop before hitting us even if it wanted to. Naturally, us passengers were quite alarmed, and I yelled out, "It's a TRUCK ADAM!" And he accellerated further, pulling away from it's path, just.

And so ends the ballard of "It's a TRUCK ADAM!".

Post 52

Quote from Wolfspirit:
and probably could not stop before hitting us even if it wanted to.

Yet the truck did stop

Post 53

still it's the funnest story i have heard

Im staying with ebola in QLD, family in melbourne and a friend in Adelaide if we end up there. Im trying to get ahold of someone else to stay with in sydney. But he is proving difficult.

Im catching up with a lot of old friends, far as I knew me and colin were going seperate ways whenever we hit a capital. I have my people i need to see and he has his. (eg family in QLD)

This thread is getting sidetracked.

Anything that isnt directly on topic I will remove..

Post 71

Post 72

Cool, if the 2 of you make it that far, I will organise a get together with the Adel cr3w..

It would be good if U could, but finances and time will dictate..

Post 73

will work on it.

Post 74

ok spero doesnt have to get back till the 23rd Dec.

That allows a bit more time to rest and not drive lol

Ok who can put me up in sydney? one night.

spero suggested sleep in the car haha.

Post 75

I knew three mates who kept on sleeping in an old Cortina when they were in a road trip visiting me in Melbourne. Slept under a freeway in melbourne and a truckstop just out of Melbourne.

Funnily enough they came down without checking my address with me before.

Post 76

Quote from Danny G:

Ooops
If Martok, Locutus and I get lost then we will look for all the funny look'in slack-jaw yokels sitting on their computers

If you really need somewhere to stay in Melb Rain and get desperate, then I may be able to make some room here. You would be sleeping on the floor, but there are no spare beds, only plenty of floor space.
Sorry that's the best I can do.
