Well, you can shoot on crown land if you have a permit, or else, you can shoot on private property if you have written permission to be there... So basically, yeah. Best bet- probably ask someone at one of the rifle clubs around.
Edit: Also, you have to have a licence, or be shooting with someone with a licence...
Edit Mk II: Nonsense. Roast pig is great.
Post 12
Don't you see it's cruel to kill disease ridden, land devestating, over populted, introduced ferals
Post 13
Aye, wild pigs do untold damage to the environment every year. The only thing I feel for 'em is the recoil.

Nah just need to check there liver & kidneys. So where are we going to go pig shooting.? Hmmmm Casuarina square seems good place lots of bush pigs too many dammit too many targets can't aim  no just kidding  . But out pass Humptydoo is not bad, just wait around the water holes around dusk & heaps come. hehehe Hay Skinny you can even camp in the car for this one lol but you needs lots of cammo netting to cover the car pigs get spooked easily & make sure your downwind too so they wont smell you hehehe.

I've got a rifle... if it'd be ok with you, I'd like to tag along. I should have my licence by then, but if I don't, well, as you said, we're going with a licenced shooter. Naturally, I'd have to get his permission, or else you could vouch for me; assuming it's ok with you of course.

Post 18
Yeah, I know of a few we *might* be able to use... my mum has a permit I think, I'll find out about that... else, I can find us the right location... I'll talk to some people.
And, I've got a Winchester model (exact number excapes me ATM) .22 magnum lever action. It's actually never been fired, due to one thing or another, so it's almost new; but it's a really sweet gun. I love it so much. :D
Post 19
i think we should organise a day at the range first so that people can get an idea of basics and so i can see for myself if people are safe enough to come, no offence to anyone but i will not go hunting with someone i have never been at the range with before, remeber that firearms dont kill people, people kill people, it can be alot of fun but it still has to be taken very sriously and SAFETY is the biggest priority!!! i will have a chat to the SSAA and find out the finer details.

No it'll be Ok cause the pig will be dead and it wont be able to catch anything ....
Try Pig Sticking ....
You get a big knife ( like a bayonet ) some dogs to round up the pig(s) and then when it is charging you kneel down, brace your forearm and let the sucker run onto the knife ....
But dont miss.....
Post 24
lol bugga that what happens if u do miss "OUCH"
i would like to see that happen knight take the camera and get some one to do thast and video tape it or take pictures either one. :P
Post 25
If you miss you get flattened and depending on the pig ( size , tusks etc ) you either have another go or run .... very fast
Post 26
lol yeah that woudl hurt like hell but i must admit who out there has the guts to do that i might have done it if i taped a knife to like a 5 meter pole or somthing becuase at leaste i could run (woddel) to safty but even than i dont think i could get away in time

In my younger and sillier days I did it twice ( pig stikin that is ) - in the Sth Island of NZ
First time got flattened and knocked silly - mate managed to shoot it before it turned me into a enuch
Second time did it right .... but the blood and squealing and stuff turned me right off
Dont recomend it ...
Post 28
All right.
I'm thinking we might be able to shoot out at Fog Dam; I've got some people who've done it before, we're getting maps and whatnot.
I completely agree with Lucifer, and I was going to raise the point myself; I won't shoot with anyone who can't handle a weapon. Safety first, always.
How's about this Wednesday, 4:30pm?
Post 29
Ok, well, if this trip is gunna be done properly, lets do it properly. We're gunna have to sort out:
1) Details of trip
2) Route/destination/maps
3) Inventory
4) Range meeting
I'll post a draft of all the above below. If anyone who's going wants to add anything or suggest changes, by all means.
1) I'm thinking, at the moment, that we would meet about 11:00 at a home. I'll be quite willing to use my place as the central meeting point, since meeting at a public place would not be wise. Then, we'll do our final rifle/shotgun ammo/equipment checks, and then depart at 11:30. Depending on where our destination is, we will probably arrive at 3:00. We'll get everything ready, do another rifle/shogun check, and then set up a camp. We'll then load up, and go looking for a good spot(s) to wait for pigs. By the water would be a good bet. We'll scout out the area, set up camoflague on the vehicles and ourselves, and go over the arcs of fire we'll take so we don't shoot each other. By then, allowing for dicking around time, it should be about 5:00; that's when the pigs should begin to show up (between about then and 9:30). We'll finish up whenever we feel like it, basically, but unless someone has a spotlight the dark will be a limiting factor.
We'll then retire unto our camp, clean weapons, unload, sleep, get up early (5:00am) and do another hunt. Now, this is subject to change; we can either do one hunt and stay up late (but again the night will be a problem) or else we can do two and get up early. Then, once it's all said and done (probably about 12:00) we'll pack up the gear, and depart.
2) Our route, destination and the maps we'll require I can probably sort out in the next few days, and I'll hopefully bring 'em along to our range meeting. In this way we can actually have a face to face meeting about the shoot. Naturally, if anyone can get those too, that'd be great. It always helps to have a backup destination if, for instance, the place we want is closed or the road's flooded (NOT likely at this time of year but you never know if we get some really heavy rains)
3) This is important. I'll break it down into two sections: What every guy/gal MUST and WILL need to take, no exceptions, and what every guy/gal should really really take.
What you all MUST have and carry on you at all times:
- 1 days rations, (two instant food packages; instant food is prefered <easy and portable, quick and easy to cook, plus good and lots of energy, try the pasta>)
- 6 litre's of water. If you have some hangups about drinking bore water, or lake water, you might definately think about filling those water bottles before you come. Bear in mind that the average human uses 3-3.5 litre's of water a day, and it'll be stinking hot out there, so you'll use at least twice that.
- 1 packet of matches.
- At least one firearm (duh) and plenty of CORRECT ammunition. It's infuriating when you take two dozen boxes of .22 and the gun takes .22 magnum; trust me, I know.
- Mozzie repelant, preferably roll on.
- Long sleeve pants and shirts (trust me guys the mozzies will be on thick). If possible, camoflague army uniforms, since they are camo and cover the body to help protect against mozzies. And, you'll look the part.
- One compact sausepan, unless your rations don't require cooking.
- Sneakers or other covered footwear (we'll probably be in mud, so bring crappy shoes).
- An adaquate hat. Your choice, really, but I'd highly recommend it; we'll be getting a bit of sun, probably.
- 1 backpack or other means to carry all the above.
What you MUST have, either on you or at the camp:
- Toilet paper, soap, and other necessities. Keep the toilet paper dry.
- An additional 2 litre's of water, making 8.
- An additional days rations, (four instant food packages in total).
- All the required cleaning gear for firearms.
- 1 tent.
- Cooking utensils (plate, sausepan/frypan, eating knife, fork, spoon, cup)
What every guy/gal really SHOULD have but can get away without:
- An additional 2 days rations, (eight instant food packages in total)
- An additional 2 litre's of water, making 10.
- 1 torch, preferably red light (to convert a normal torch, simply tape red celiphane over the lens).
- 2 Glow sticks, unbroken (in case you get seperated. If you're rich, you can take flares, but they're bulky, heavy and expensive)).
- 1 survival/hunting knife.
- Water bottles, so that you can get a drink easily when we've set up our camping spot.
- Camoflague netting and/or paint.
- Boots instead of sneakers.
This whole list sounds like a lot, but with the exception of the guns it can fit into a backpack, and it's really basic stuff, really, for a night out. We're all adults here, I'm not gunna check up on you like four year olds; you all know what to bring. And remember, we are using live rounds and live firearms here; safety FIRST above killing stupid pigs.
4) I'm thinking the range meeting should take place at 4:30 at the SSAA range, range 2. I'm not a particularly good shot, but I know my way around firearms. I don't care if you can't shoot, but safety is important. If you don't come to the meeting, you don't come shooting, I think that's fair 'nuff.
One final thing: we should sort out who's definately coming and who's not, it would be nice to see some real names here. As I said I'm definately up for it.
Anything anyone wants to add would be more then welcome.
Edit: Forgot one very important thing: Someone in the group should carry a full first aid kit. I'll be willing to do that.
Post 30
well said, i thin you pretty much covered most of it, ive got all of the above and more, although i dont have a tent, dont necesarrily ned it unless it rains, a swag may do, but if someone has a huge tent that would be good or a ute!!! hehe,
one more thing we need a 4wd, clackers you interested??
ill definately be going - Darren.
gotta do an inventory check i might need to get some hexamine and probably a little more ammo.

Just a few extra things; Alcohol and firearms don't mix. Even if you're gunna drink afterwards, the police take a really dim view of it, and I imagine it could be constituted a potential dangerous act etc... basically, not a good thing. Besides, dehydrates you. So, leave the grog at home.
Second, yeah, I did forget vehicle camoflague, since that may be important... we can probably just get branches and whatnot, but it depends on what sorta area we're in.
Post 36
oo dam now even a few drinks to wind down?
dam ok fair enough
i got a camera too
so ill bring that
also need to setup a weekend maybe this or the next i can do in weekdays but i doubt kelly can
so yeha kelly let us know when u are free from work
edit: that was knigth on skinnys computer again
Post 37
lol, if u want u could come over where i am - 3hrs drive from darwin
I use a 22-250 :) for accuracy, i have a spair 22-250, a 22 (lol ud just sting em) , 22-223, and a small shottie as well but yeah target practice first - but sif ud drive this far neway
If ur worried bout saftey watch the bullets - make everone hand them in to someone responsible and only one person is to have a bullet at a time, load it only just befor shooting and have everyone else watch. Going with more then 2 ppl with loaded guns is just tooo dangersous. Oh and stick together
gtg
Post 38
vinc where you live and is there alot of property to shoot on
can i get there in two wheel drive
i have a remington 22/250 with a 788 action
awesome rifle for accuracy
wolf, a couple of bourbons late at night to wind down should be fine, just remeber if i am going to be the licenced shooter and i am supervising all else i will only go with a couple of unlicenced guys and i will not take any shit, i get very grumpy when it comes to safety, the range is a good idea so i can get an idea of ability to handle firearms aswell as ability to listen to instructions.
Post 39
Aye, of course, and I completely agree. I don't like dickheads with guns. :/
If everyone's in agreement with the stuff I've proposed... then we'll meet at the range at 4:30pm on Wednesday? Now, I believe that range fees may have to be payed... not sure about that... "5 for SSAA members, $20 otherwise, I believe...
Post 40
ill make a phone call and get back to you
Post 41
alrighty i just got off the phone to one of the board members of the SSAA who just happens to be my best mates dad,
heres the scoop
wednesday is good as there will be noone else there, we have to use range number 4 as this is the public range, col is gonna meet us there just before 4:30pm to sign us in and run through some safety procedures, unlicenced shooters are not supposed to be handling firearms on the range due to some new laws however he does not have a problem with this as he knows me and trusts my judgement, so we will play it by ear ok! i will get some ammo on wednesday and organise some targets, so i will see you all there. oh and one mre thing i need to ring col just before we go on wednesday so can i please have a post of who wishes to come.
Post 42
Im currently at douglas daily, look up douglas hot springs and its fairly close, 2wds are fine if its slipery just drive slow - theres a station there which my grandparents own, im currently visiting\working for them U could either come camping or there is a mens quaters with ~4 spair beds where u could stay - but its very messy, i live in their house :)
Theres plenty of property on this place to go hunting with plenty of pigs - not that i guarentee u will hit ne
We have a spotlight set up on a truck my little sister crashed so it has no roof and its vry good for group hunting - once u get their eyes they usualy sit nice and still for ya
If still interested ask ill give u full directions
Everything should be fine this end, just say when ur comming - things will be busy till thursday
Best bet to go hunting would be spotlighting 6 to 9 pm and again 5 to 10 am the next day - sort of an overnight thing, bring food camping equip ect, theres water here and if we dont find pigs there is alway plenty of roos

im interested, very interested, but im also broke and license-less.. ill have a chat to my old man, see if i cant borrow a rifle or 2, if i get a yes, ill show up on wednesday, if not, ill get in touch with david.. i still think we'd all be better off just going somewhere close, sometime after the range meet up, and just have a bit of a run around and stuff.. howard springs reserve has pigs on it, but the chances of us getting any are extremely slim, you'd wanna go on dusk and then do some spotlighting, but ill keep in touch with david, he seems to be right in the middle of this =)
daniel.
Post 45
sounds good matt, whats the clearance like, my ute is fairly low to the ground,
sardok, come on down to the range and we can meet and discuss it, hey if you dont have a licence then dont bring any firearms the fines for you and ME are not worth it.
we could have a GU hunting trip to matts folks property?
any thoughts?
Post 46
cool cool a GU hunting trip
yeah careful thoo cause vinc winges alot lol vinc and he always wants to wake me up really early for some unknown reason
but i am in for the fireing range
Post 47
is there a day/night/weekend set yet?? or is it all still in the works? if i get my license, ill be there.. and ill try make in on wednesday
Post 48
To get here there is no probs at all, u can get here by car - once here we can use spare truck to go hunting and spot lighting - no one is using them after 6pm
The only thing ill be winging about is saftey and early starts are because thats when the pigs are active u dont have to get up early. U can go midday but thats when their hiding under trees. Choppers been delayed till thursday so if u wanna come in the next few days or wait till saturday ect. Roo hunting is much easier cause there are sooooo many of them and they are a smaller target.
There is limited accomidation if u dont mind slumming it though, there is a guy that lives there (johno) and hes a horse trainer. If u dont want to slum it bring a tent and go camping, or whatever. There is plenty of water here and ppl that will find u quickly if u get in trouble, and id most likly be there with a spare truck
Post 49
place sounds liek heaven matt
it sounds good to me
so dose that mena someone is there to cook for us?
that woudl be awsome
hay u can cook for us vinc :P
nar sounds like the ideal place
Post 50
Theres a storm up here atm - sat internet keeps going out
Grandpa can butcher and id think i could organise a barby - but only if we get a pig :), i have no idea what roo meat is like but its probably really tough
Check out whats comming in this thursday :) i get to ride in it for work :D
Oh and under it is the device me, grandpa and the pilot built :)
Post 51
Cut off the Roo's tail, strip the meat, tenderise it, marinate it, turn it into jerky and send it down to cow.
Roo meat is nice, but only eat the tail, might sound funny but im pretty sure thats the most tender spot (have eaten them previously)
Sounds like lots of fun (going hunting that is), how bout someone come down and pick me up on the way, dazza?
Post 52
your a brave man matt if your game to eat the meat of one of the pigs here.. and i take my hat off to you.. roo meat isn't that great, the tails aren't bad tho.. the best meat ive had, would have to be camel =)
the biggest, most tenderest fillets.. *drool* camel is good meat
Post 53
ill be down there in me ute cow, hehe, 8)
sounds great matt, the best most tenderest meat i have ever had was that of a kid!!!! yes a kid!!!! not a human a baby goat, it was on a spit and the meat was beautiful but to get them we need to go to the flinders ranges or kalgoorlie, maybe one day.
Post 54
Sounds good. :) See ya all at the range. :)

Post 58
hey guys can i come hunting at daly i go pighuning all the time got couple of dogs if theres pigs there they catch also got twincab 4wd let me know..
Post 59
Wild pigs r alright, just make sure its cooked allll the way through
dogs rnt good for shooting pigs as they get in the way and make the pigs run
otherwise yeah ur welcome to come though it would be nice if ppl came at around the same time, over this weekend (ariving sat) ? - just so i know which days to get off work
and yeah, if ya cant handle the gun, im not going to shun u, just take ur bullets and give em back 1 at a time and watch u shoot it (ya have to learn sometime) as to controll the level of danger
safteys isnt to be trusted, no bullets to be kept in barrell and all guns uncocked, hand guns should be left at home or only used for target practice, there will be no tolerance of ppl pointing guns at other ppl
Bring ur own food, there is the mens quaters so there will be a roof under which u can unroll ur swag
as far as clotheing, long sleve shirt and jeans boots and hat since there is probably going to be running through bush during midday hunts.
Ill go through procedures when ppl get here
Post 60
cool sounds like fun
we aint comming this weekend matt
dont know when we are all going
hopefuly next weekend :P
dojnt know
Post 61

ill seeyas at the range tomora, 4:30, and erm, i might breing along Mordin and Amano, they seemed interested, tho, kinda agreed with me, that daily region was a bit too far to go for just one night, and on such short notice..
Post 63
