Watercooling

I know Minorci started a topic about this in the Hardware forum but im starting one here :D

Anyway, couple of questions, mainly for Sly but anyone else with input please say.

Ok Sly first up you got any pics of the layout of your watercooled setup, seeming you have a case practically identical to that of me and minroci. I have seen a few other setups for cases like the PC60, etc. but I wanna see a nice clear view before I make any decision to watercool.

Also anyone know where I can buy Innovatek waterblocks from in Australia? Would be a help, I like their nice simple look, and ease of use.

Minorci if you do your water cooling kit I'll be doing the same as you and will use a Eheim 1046 pump also. they seem to be rated highly but the 240v is pissing me off :D Are all pumps in AC ?

Thanks guys.

You might also want to speak to Bill at BitsnBytes - he had a watercooling setup in a Lian Li PC60 - find out what he used, cos I don't think he got much better temps than with simple air-cooling - in fact, with the same CPU, I got better cooling with my Coolermaster HHC-001 than he did with water-cooling (This was about a year ago or so).

Post 3

im just waiting for funds to come through, gah i cant get all technical cause i dont know much about the properties of water, but in the theory incased in my head, water cooling does achieve much cooler temps in the cooler climates, but runs equal with air cooling up here, but the adv of water cooling is for oc'ing.. i think water has the ability to take more heat away quicker than an air cooling job? and plus you can soup water up by thinning it out therefore water travels quicker over the water block.

There are a few methods to thin water out, it has been practiced using an alcohol based liquid, ethanol etc, but obviously there is a fire hazard and if it isnt properly sealed its a waste of time

Blah those innovatek blocks are FKN expensive, 300 dollars or something.. i had a look on tomshardware on their cooling demo they did they used all innovatek stuff and converting the price back over it is fairly expensive.

Hey xaine we still on for that case mod in the chrissy holidays? im still searchin for a likely candidate.

Post 4

Now a mean waterblock would be this baby

Post 5

This is the innovatek waterblock btw

The chipset and GPU water blocks too :D

Yeah thats them =)

I had a feeling they might have been, although I can see a full kit for about $400 - 500 and yeah I know that is a lot of money - but its so darn NICE! 8)

Hmm me not even going to go near a peltier :D Although it would be lovely, way to much hassle, power hungry, condensation, etc. But it would run damn COLD!

Post 7

in my opionion warter cooling isnt all that great its a big risk just so u can overclock
i think its better to upgrade what ever u are looking to overclock insted or watercooling it and making it run faster
and the tnest little leek can fuck up hundreds of $ of hardwars
ask rainwulf

Post 8

And where is the risk?

and don't say the water.

Post 9

First risk is if you use un-distilled water, but the more likely one is fucking something by having a bir arse water block on your CPU

Post 10

Quote from Sa' Martok:

Well youd be pretty stupid to run un-distilled water wouldn't ya

Knight to your comment, It is recommended that in a water cooling environment to use DISTILLED water. Why? Cos if the system so happened to leak it wouldn't short-circiut all your nice expensive hardware. Thankgod for distilled water :P

So using distilled water removes the risk of shorting your hardware in case of a leak. But there are other probs that water in general has, and esspecially when its going to be at a temp of about 25 - 35 id say maybe higher not to sure. As it is around the optimum temp for bacteria other probs can occur and prolly will over time. So what this causes is Biological Growth (growing of algae and shit like that).
And the other prob quite obviously is "corrosion".

But again there is always a cure, presenting......

Goto http://www.pcca.com.au/waterpumps.html to find it.
Used in engines but has exactly the same use in a water cooled system :D

Distilled Water + Water Wetter and your water cooling system should be pretty well safe or at least MUCH safer than what most people think.

Post 11

get a silverprop cyclone 5. It's 1337 :D

Post 12

Yeah that would be my second option after the Innovatek water blocks.

Silverprop Cyclone 5 water block.
[Image: http://www.pccasegear.com.au/images/spc5b5.jpg]
And good thing is they Aussie made too :D

I'll definatly go with their radiator, Silverprop Silverstorm Radiator, no matter which way i go with water cooling. Why? Cos its nicely sized and seems to be fairly common in most "good" watercooling kits.
[Image: http://www.pcca.com.au/images/silverstorm/ss.jpg][Image: http://www.silverprop.com/sp/assets/ssf.jpg]

Post 13

looks liek lovly maze that u could get 2 ants to race in
lol we coudl bet on em too

Post 14

Hmm lets see here

SilverProp - SilverStorm Radiator = "20
EHEIM-1048 Water Pump = "35
Silverprop Cyclone 5 = "45*
Hosing = about $5/m
Various other items, distilled water, clamps, etc = $30

So for a water cooling kit of roughly that calibre your looking at about $450 - although i think that is some of the best money can buy there.

* - New model coming soon - meant to be cheaper too.

Post 15

sif need watercooling anyway. Darwin is too hot to even bother.

Post 16

how cool will it be if u can get guppies in there and they live die eat each other and breed *dreams*

Post 17

lol i could just imagine the sort of stuff getting stuck all through the waterblock and rad

Sif a car need turbo or NOS - the road limit is too slow to use it to its potential.

But people still do it, Why?

That's a good reason TO use watercooling. Since the ambient air temperature is so high anyway, why wouldn't you want to use the most effective cooling solution you can to get your CPU temp as close to ambient as possible?

Not to mention watercooling is quieter.

Post 20

I think the only prob with water cooling is its price. It's a fairly safe thing to setup (if you know what your doing), the results should mostly be better than air cooling, certainly in comparison to sound like Darkwolf said it will be. It also looks damn pretty, a UV reactant dye running through the water, going through clear tubes, under a UV light mmmm pretty 8) And its also a cool hobby/project you can have fun with to, certainly does impress people seeing a water cooled system.

Post 21

Well blah want to get together over the xmas break and do up our systems? :) we might get a discount for bulk purchase? :D

Post 22

Hmm if I can afford it sure - I'll get back to you about it though.

What do you call the christmas break?

Post 23

25 december 1st january shrug, prolly wont happen, pov me, but i know im getting a dremel for xmas!! woohoo!!

Post 24

btw ill flog someones digi cam and document my waterslide to watercooling

Post 25

And you'll love it to, the best tool to have :D I love mine :D
25th to 1st - Hmm probably, im stilll looking atm, so nothing definate.

i got 1
ill come for the laughs and to take pics

Post 27

hahaha i'd love to come over and share my knowledge and the laughs that will be had ;)

if that's ok with you three of course :)

Post 28

LOL might as well make it a BM gathering......

Post 29

hay yeah
monorcie u can bring the crownies and beer bong ill bring the burbon and sequ can bring that sake stuff and blah hrrrmmm whats can he bring?
oo the coke :P

How'd I know you'd say that Knight :?

Post 30

Why am I thinking that alcohol and case-modding (with power tools) wouldn't mix .

Post 31

with you maybe seein you're a cadbury :P

couldnt be as bad as timmys mod
:D

Post 33

nah you got me there, ill keep you guys sensible (im a sensible person) - cos I know for fact NONE of you touching my PC :D

Post 34

i gotta keep away from the sake sorry knight ;) ;) i'm starting to turn into an alco :P

should be fun, i got time.... til about the 15 of jan. :D

Post 35

lol
alco
well this weekend just been was my first sober one in like 8 weeks
i saved biggest mobs of money liek 15-25 bucks

If you guys are gonna get and set up a GOOD, HIGH quality watercooling rig suitable for putting in an Enermax FS-710B case (same as Angel's), then I might be interested. But only after the 9th of January (that's when I get back from Adelaide).

What's this about inert fluid for it? Might be smarter in case of a leak, as long as it doesn't perish rubber.

Darkwolf.

Post 37

fluroinert is way to fucking expensive to use in a standard watercooling situation, 500 dollars for a gallon.

I have other plans

I now have a Lian Li PC60 though :D no matter though if I can fit one n this case then your sure as hell to fit one in that enermax case :P

hahaha u will notice in a few weeks u'r arms beefing up from carring this heavey fucker around
i am big cause i have done it for 6months
i wanna get a smaller case but no one is able to hook me up to a place that sells eem :(

Post 42

go for an aluminium case knight...very light :D

and you can get an enermax aluminium case for about 282$ for the same size as your current one. bit much but that way the whole thing acts as a heatsink.

or there is plastic...

www.cws.net.au
www.cougar.com.au
www.eyo.com

just browse through the cases sections at these places knight and you are certain to find one. if you are unsure about something then ring them or email them.

Post 43

hay thanks for the idea seqo
ill e-mail all the good suplyers to see if they can get me my case :P

Post 44

knight lieks this case

the noise level is 22dBa
i would love a computer that quiet and thats nice and cool
