So what you guys think of lotr2?

Just saw it a coupla hours ago. I won't go into much detail about how I think of it but I would like to say one thing: Hire decent script writers damnit!

They didn't Hollywood it up so it might be a bit plain in places, havent seen it yet but it looks awesome. From what i've heard about the whole trilogy, it follows the book alot and wasnt dumbed up to follow the usual hollywood movies

Yeah things do have to be altered, as it was I'm still sore from sitting down that long watching that movie. Also too fast scene switching for the action/battle scenes.

Bah, the scripting is all dumbed down. So much so the scenes can become disjointed. For instance when Merry and Pippin meet Treebeard, Merry says "But we aren't orcs" even though Treebeard doesn't actually SAY they were orcs. It hasn't been quite hollywooded up but has been dumbed down differently. The words are different but they're just as weak. They make broad statements without full justification. If any of yous have listened to the tapes by the BBC you'll realise just how much better the scripting could have been done. If the script was a bit more intelligent, we could really feel the relationships of the characters develope more.

Trust me, they have taken a few lines from the book but they've also taken out so much and pushed it in the wrong direction.

Am I the only one who feels disappointed by the trilogy?

Don't get me wrong, the graphics are amazing and it is an emotion packed film but it's also constantly in your face ALL the time you don't get any rest time to build up the action, suspense adventure and relationships of the characters and the movie ends up feeling drawn out going at the same constant monotonous pace.

I wasnt disappointed about the first part, except for the end leaving you hanging and the fact we had to wait 12 months to see what happens next. But unfortunately thats the whole point of it :(

Golumn is cool though :D

And the second is better than the first.

i reckon the first one had better delineation between scenes....

part 2 was more just a mess, i think part 1 was better.

I liked it.

I have never read the books but I really enjoyed it as a movie.

I cannot wait for the next one :)

Though I did see the movie with my dad who has read the books. He said that he liked it as a movie but was a little disappointed that they took the story line so far way from the book.

Well don’t flame me if I am wrong but I was sure that Treebeard referred to them as "little orcs" when he first caught them...

*shrugs* oh well, i enjoyed it, i liked the first one better because it followed more like a group of companions although scripting the groups apart for the second one was always gonna be hard to do, i thought they could have made it a little longer to be honest, i mean who says a movie can only go for three hours anyway :lol:

all in all it was cool!

I loved Black Hawk Down for a large number of reasons.

I was extremely impressed with LOTR II - even better then the first one. I thought it was absolutely awesome. I kept pace with the disjointment, and it was a deliberate filming technique, but that's probably because I've read the books a lot... And I was paying a lot of attention. :D

Rather then being disappointed by the movie versions, I'm actually greatly impressed by them. I believe they truely do the books justice. They are different, sure, but for someone who hasn't read The Lord of the Rings the differences are not noticable and the story would not flow easily or even be understandably without them... For those who have, they are a nice twist and something to recapture the interest. After all, Titanic was such a hit movie, and everyone bloddy knew the end. The ship sinks, ok?! I can't believe my sister was upset when I told her that.

Sure, they left out a bunch of stuff out of LOTR, but it's stuff that's not relevant to the story- such as Tom Bombadil in the first book. A cool character, and a cool series of events which surround him, but truely, not relevant to the whole story. I can understand why they cut him. After all, no movie can sensibly run longer then three hours, it's just too long.

I gave it 4 1/2 stars- the highest rating I've ever given to a movie. Absolutely awesome. The best movie of 2002, IMHO.

Actually I didn't think the character development was that bad, just the way the movie was done it was way more subtle that just the characters being shoved into your face. It was done more through the small things they do and tones in their voices when they talk about certain things. BHD definitely one of the best btw :D

yep i realise they are two seperate movies about two seperate things.... after i posted... but im lazy n didnt change it.

Well, LOTR: The Two Towers, I was entering the movie with a cynical outlook..... boy, was I ever wrong.

In my opinion it was one of the best movies I have ever seen, bar none. It kept that level of intensity and the shivers-up-the-spine kind of feel that the first delivered so well. The fight scenes were well crafted, the acting, as with the first, was outstanding and the CG was jaw-dropping - especially Gollum/Smeagol.

It was also quite funny in a lot of parts, Gimli and Gollum.

I didn't find the script disjointed in the slightest. However, if you hadn't have recently seen the first movie then perhaps I can understand why it would be disjointed. Also, if you had missed certain parts in the first movie then the movie may seem a little out of place. On the other hand, I found it very flowing. Cutting from one group to another and then back again may also put some out of place, or lose some people, but if you keep in mind what is happening with the other groups when you are watching a different group of characters, when they switch back it all flows again. (Long sentence that one...)

The part about the Little Orcs, Treebeard did mention it, twice, before Pippin or Merry (can't remember which) responded.

Rest time? most find it boring in parts... (yes I must admit, it dragged... but so did the book) that, I consider, rest time.

The movie had more ups and downs than Pammy and Tom, the action would build.... build some more.... slowly... then BAM! Once that is over with.... more suspense and anxious waiting for the next big thing to occur.

As to the relationships between the characters, they are the only emotional scenes in the in the movie... therefore when you say it is an Emotion Packed movie I don't see where there is no character development....

Each to his own opinions though, sorry if this seemed like a bit of a defensive Flame Cael, it was not intended to sound like that...

....but I do get sooooo emotional about movies :P :twisted: :roll:

I lub legolas, hes the best character in a movie i have ever seen. And guess what? hes even better in number2 (IMO). who else can grind down a flight of steps while nailing bout 4 Orcs against a wall with his arrows?

Not too mention the tally he had goin with the dwarf guy.........Legolas 17; Dwarf 2 :twisted:

I liked it..except for the action scenes...they woulda been cool but it was really choppy and stuff, made it kinda hard to watch

my apologies Ruin but I concur with everyone else - Treebeard keeps referring to them as little orcs till he speaks with "the white wizard" :P

They only decide that they're not orcs after about 4 hours of chatting at the entmoot :P

The remarks about keeping count between Legolas and Gimli are one of the netter parts of the book that I'm happy they put into the movies - its all about the character development of the two. At the start of the first movie, they didn't trust each other, let alone like each other. At the end of the second, they are best friends. No character development? Pfft! :P

The dwarf tossing comments I don't recall from the books, but I love the addition, it helps to reinforce the Dwarven stereotype of intense pride.

The effects were awesome, the action was intense. All in all, a more than worthy representation of the original novels IMHO.

Edit: The way the book was written forced the scene changes to a certain extent. I think Tolkein's idea was to build up some suspense with one group and then skip to another. It's somewhat frustrating, but it does get you actively involved in the story.

Hmm, I'd just like to add how unimpressed I was, the way they constantly took the shit outta Gimli. Through my eyes there was very little positive character development through him and the humor didn't really help the movie either.

i lllooovvveeedddd this movie! and im sorry but i thought all the gimley bits were funny as hell. he is a dwarf amongst elves and humns of corse he will stand out and be short in their world.... but yes. the bit with legolas and gimley with the body counting was a crack up. and legolases smile *sigh* yu-um!!!

the war scenes were awesome i was actually going 'nooo the fight bits!' when they would swap to frodo and sam or pippin and... th eother one ( mental blank) i wanted to stand up and go 'yeah woo!' and all that. one of my faves and for a fantasy boy movie thats a big thing for me!

I saw it just today, this movie rocks, couple of favourite parts was when Legolas was boarding down the stairs and capping the orcs, and the constant payouts against the Dwarf :P

Saw that Treebeard part, they were little orcs until all the tree monster things agreed that they weren't

I'm a bit disappointed like i was with the first one, i have to wait on year for the next :@ I'm not sure if I want to read the books or not, or leave it :?

Looks like there might be another Tolkien movie in the works, some guy found a lecture that Tolkien gave based on the poem of Beowulf. It was published as a book and could manage to become a movie :D

lol....Gimli is a funny dwarf. i read the hobbit and thats exactly the way the dwarves are portrayed. i thought it was really well done. i reckon the humour helped lighten the movie a tad, caus its very very gloomy.

about ST nemisis.... i have to say that i hate star treck and star wars... anything witht he word star as the first word.... but the preview for it looked okay. i watched it instead of singing to myself with my eyes closed like i usally do at moves meph goes "oohh!!" to....

but i wont see it. just adding that as a disclaimer for meph... admitting partial defeat to watch geeky sci fi previews.

i want to see the hulk, dosnt that come out this year?.... and american pie 3 ( american wedding i think its called) i want to see that..... damnit! why didnt get movie money for christmas?! :(

Righto, my personal favourite part of the whole movie was the elvish army coming to help out at helm's deep, just the way they showed up, and the only thing i wish they really had put into the movie were the reactions of legolas and gimli on entering fangorn.

That said, during the movie i got to thinking how similar the sword of shannara is in storyline/structure, and then seeing the overwhelming success of Lord of the Rings and wondering what fantasy book series will be made into a movie next. One can only hope the Riftwar Saga ends up on the big screen.

also i liked gollum (spelling) he was cool, he went kinda phsyco at the end, about digging sams eyes out lol, so he couldn't watch him kill frodo.

Out of all the moives I am anticpating this year Nemisis is the one that has me at the edge of my seat!

But then I was brought up watching TNG and think of them as extended family :D

Star Trek is at times action but also political/diplomatic drama and all that other crap. Star Wars is just good vs evil fighting :roll: Not that im saying Star Wars is bad though, i like it just no where near as much as Star Trek :)

Heh, i think the main problem is, as with lotr, the more background knowledge you have of the world, the better the movie. I know people who haven't read the books have a hard time keeping up with LOTR from time to time. Frankly, the rest of hte movie can be shit so long as they do justice to milamber tearing up the arena on kelewan ;)

You gotta love the depth it has, Star Wars cannot compete with it there (although it does have cooler action scenes)

id want justice done to the huge fortresses and i want to see a real siege...

the siege in TTT was sort of pathetic it could be just a taste of ROTK hopefully. But the siege's and battles in Riftwar are just excellent.

heh if you want a book inspired by LOTR, try the sword of shannara.

Ancient enemy thought defeated returning? Check.

Powerful, yet mysterious magic user realising the danger? Check.

Unprepared, unknowing, otherwise peaceful wouldbe hero? Check.

A party of miscellaneous companions? Check.

A powerful kingdom being undermined by the whisperings of an enemy agent? Check.

A last minute save made by an army of elves? Check.

The wouldbe hero getting separated and making his own way to the enemy? Check.

its so similar, they could just about change the names of the characters in the movie, change the ring to a sword, and rebadge the LOTR series the sword of shannara.

I've seen ST Nemesis, and it sucked, i mean the general progression of ST movies after Frist Contact has gone downhill, ffs cant the writers come up with anything decent.. i mean a clone!! COME ON!! FFS

My reccomendation is wait for the dvd.. it was pathetic..
