jsut trying to get my posts up...hrmm waht else could i say? how about, do computers piss u off when they stuff up and u r doing sumthin important? and how some games dun work when u have like tonnes of ram and everything else, and one of ur friends has a sh*thouse pc and it runs fine on theirs....

Yeah, tell me about it. I consider myself quite competant when it comes to computer maintaince/repair, but aye... In a perfect world, everything would be stable and never crash... Pre-emptive-shut up Aravi... I mean, I've got the Green Button syndrome really badly. I just want it to work for days and not crash. Pre-emptive-shut up Aravi. Yesh, oh for the good old days of DOS... couldn't do anything, but it sure could run for ages. Pre-emptive-shut up Aravi.
Win2k's getting there, and WinXP is closer... it will probably only (Shut up Aravi) be two or three generations of Windows before it's finally fixed... Then we'll have some fun. :D

So does mine. I've had XP up for weeks at a time, interrupted only by thunderstorms. The secret of stable computing is good-quality stable hardware. Even Linux gets funny if you give it RAM full of holes, a dodgy IDE cable, and weirdo no-name network cards.

No it ain't. XP is within a nine or two of Linux, and Linux is about as pretty as roadkill. If you want power and beauty, my linux-loving freak, then get thee to OS X. It is beautiful, and quite frankly, it sh*ts all over Linux and XP in every way.
You see, the only thing I miss on Windows is the u*x programming environment, being able to run Perl/Python/PHP without hackish workarounds, knowing that STDIN, STDOUT and STDERR are always there, that sort of thing. And the thing I miss on Linux is a GUI which is easy on the eyes, and good major software titles. OS X happens to all these things in spades. In fact the OS X Developer's Toolkit is awesome, as is the system language Objective C, and the Cocoa API.
And FWIW I have got cred on this issue. :) I have used CP/M, MS-DOS from 3.1 to 6.2 as well as PC-DOS 6.3, every major version of Windows from 3.1 onwards, barring Me, OS/2 2.1 and 3.0 Warp, Linux from kernel 2.0 and Red Hat 4.0, including Mandrake and the incredibly cool Debian, BeOS for PC versions 3, 4 and 5, and of course my one true love, OS X on an iBook.

Computer hardware is very much a case of "you get what you pay for".
Sure you can save a few $
#39;s by buying from a company that doesn't have a name, but if they have no name, they have nothing to loose now do they. Big name companies are kept honest by their own towering reputation if nothing else.Having said that, its also worth noting that there is no way to garuntee how any particular peice of computer hardware will react with a diferently branded device. Anyone else remember when buying a second HDD was risky to say the least?

Yes I get pissed off.. especially when computers stuff up for no reason.. and you know they do that.. ^#@%! Bah..
My computer is pretty reliable though.. it's just every now and then I'll go through a patch of trouble and then it's all good again. Haven't had any problems for about 2 months and she stays on 24/7. I guess it's coming around to 'stuff up time' soon.. bleh.
